240 Scottish Cat Names To Get You Inspired (2025 Update)

Scotland boasts such a beautiful yet rugged landscape, and its history is the stuff of legends. Whether you’re Scottish yourself or a lover of all things Scotland, giving your cat a name based on this amazing country will undoubtedly be as unique as your cat.

We gathered some potential names for your cat, which include everything from traditional Scottish names and locations to food and drink. If you love Scotland and are struggling to come up with the right name for your cat, you’ve come to the right place!

How to Name Your Cat

Start with your cat’s appearance—the color or pattern of your cat’s coat can give you a few ideas, as can their shape and size. For example, the Gaelic word for skinny is “tana,” so if your cat is svelte, this might be a nice name. A Gaelic dictionary can come in handy!

Media and the arts are other great places to get inspiration. Favorite bands, artists, actors, movies, or characters from books are all options.

Also, consider your cat’s personality. You can find an appropriate name when thinking about the quirks that your cat has. Or you can use video games or food for inspiration. The possibilities are truly endless!

Use Your Imagination!

When trying to pick out a name for your cat, say the name out loud a few times. Use it like you’re calling or speaking to your cat. This will give you a much better idea if it rolls off the tongue the right way.

Your cat will likely be with you for at least 10 years and possibly up to 20! So, this name should work for you and your family. Also, if you have young children, they should be able to pronounce it.

When you do settle on a name you like, consider adding an honorific to it, like Lady or Lord. Cats are certainly important enough to deserve a title!

  • Professor
  • Her or His Majesty
  • Queen/King
  • Madame
  • Sir
  • Mrs. or Miss
  • Senator
  • Dame
  • Prince/Princess
  • General
  • Sergeant
  • Colonel
