As for me, I represented in a bird dress, cat sweater, Catsparella T-shirt, and Catster tote, but one piece that was conspicuously absent from my ensemble was a pair of cat shoes. A few months ago I rounded up some of my favorite cat flats of the moment, but recently I've discovered even more feline-friendly footwear for just about any occasion.

1. Custom Kitty TOMS

Artist Alice Toler (aka ShoeTrip) specializes in turning plain ol' shoes into custom works of art, whether you send her an old pair or upgrade to brand-new ones, like in the case of these custom kitty kicks.

TOMS, the shoe where every pair purchased also benefits a person in need, are already effortlessly cool on their own, but how amazing would it be to have your own cats painted on them? That's exactly what Toler did for a customer named Elizabeth, who wanted to cover her feet with her very own kitties. The beige flats were completely transformed into one-of-a-kind works of art, which she can now treasure forever (or until they get too stinky).

2. You're Kitten Me Wedge

Need something dressier for a night out on the prowl? Trade in your comfy flats for some fierce platforms that aren't lacking in cat appeal and are on trend with all of the pretty pastel clothing currently in stores.

At $44.99, these deliciously minty-green wedges are a more economical version of the Charlotte Olympia version (priced at $600-plus), and would look majorly cute paired with skinny jeans or funky tights. They're also made out of vegan faux-suede, so everyone can wear 'em without guilt.

3. Taylor Swift's Favorite Things Keds

Taylor Swift, who frequently posts Twitter updates involving her Scottish Fold cat, Meredith, recently teamed up with Keds to create her own line of sneakers, which are just as cute as her kitty is.

The singer used her inner cat lady to dictate my favorite design in the collection (seriously, I want these sooo bad), which include all of her favorite things, like hearts, bows, and, of course, kitties. The internationally recognized symbols of cuteness really pop in aqua against the red shoe, which also comes adorned with a golden guitar pick.  

4. Cat Print Kitten Heels

One of the few pairs of cat footwear I saw at BlogPaws was this super chic pair of kitten heels from BC Footwear. I like how the mini-heel makes them fancier than flats, yet they're not neck-breakers either, so you can actually wear them for a reasonable amount of time and not want to die on your feet.

Another trend I've spotted in the wild recently is platform sneakers in kooky kitty prints. Jeffrey Campbell's high-tops tower above the rest with their delightfully quirky cat tapestry fabric, while Buffalo collaborated with Solestruck for an out-of-this-world moon shoe covered in an all-over pussycat print.

My fab kitty glitter ring from Locketship

I've been writing about cat culture and style for nearly three years, so when it comes to cat anything, it takes a lot to capture my attention. These do. These five rings are unusual. Some are overt, while others are subtle. Regardless of whether they fit your individual style, you can appreciate them as being stylish, humorous, or both.

1. Cat Poison Ring

This fat cat hides a surprise inside in the form of a tiny silver mouse! The secretive accessory is from Xindi, who says it's "probably the coolest cat ring in the history of this or any other universe," and I can't say I disagree.

In addition to being crafted out of sterling silver, this posh pussy also sports a pair of diamond eyes. It's perfect for charming friends or easily disposing of your enemies (just kidding -- please don't poison anyone with it!).

2. Magical Black Moon Cat Ring

Real Harry Potter talk: If I had a patronus, it would be a black cat. I think they are extraordinary creatures and have always been drawn to them. I have a black kitty named Charlie and a tuxedo cat named Priscilla. I love them both very much, and they've always brought me happiness and luck.

So it goes without saying that I was instantly enamored with this brass-and-enamel black cat ring from Galibardy. The stunning statement piece, inspired by a witch's cat (and also maybe Luna from Sailor Moon?), features gorgeous golden details and a mystical moon on its forehead -- great for when you need a little help warding off bad spirits or staying in the good graces of feline's fashion elite.

3. Kitty Litter Box Ring

Gross? Amazing? Amazingly gross? It's hard to put into words exactly what I felt the first time I laid eyes on this kitty-crap-inspired creation by Super Shy Girl. To be clear, I love it ... but would I actually wear it? That's another question entirely.

Each ring set is made to order out of polymer clay and plastic, and just like in real life, the seller warns that each kitty, litter box, and poop is unique, so they may vary slightly from the picture.

If displaying a litter box on your hand is just too much to bear (I would at least take it off during mealtimes), the designer also makes a slightly less startling version of a cat eating out of a bowl, which may be more suitable for those of us with more delicate sensibilities.

4. Animal Ring-stincts in Cat

As much as I love black kitties, I also have an affinity for white cats, especially when they're in irresistible ring form. And a pink heart-shaped nose never hurt anyone!

This Vivi Dot ring is cute as a button, but it took a lot of work to get this adorable accessory just right. First, they design their own fabric to cover the buttons (no shortcuts here), and then add laser cut felt ears to ensure maximum squee-ability. 

5. Kitty Fish Ring

There's something just perfect about this delicate kitty-nomming-fish creation that speaks to my inner cat lady. Perhaps it's the face of a kitty knowing he's completed a job well done.

The handmade SuEnvy piece is made out of mat sterling silver and white diamonds, so it's a little pricier than your average cat costume jewelry, but it will last longer (and hopefully not turn your finger green). Wear it as a testament to your love for all things cat or as a reminder that, like good fishies, good things come to those who wait.

My justification for all this crap coming into the house is that I never spend very much, which means I love a good rummage at a thrift store or estate sale. I'm a firm believer in the thrift gods, who must be appeased with a purchase or two and who will then guide you to even better treasures at the next sale. 

Catster Editor-in-Chief Janine and I had some adventures in thrifting when we went looking for a bunch of cat statuettes and ornaments to send to the Teal Cat Project. I still keep an eye out whenever I'm at a thrift store or flea market, and have told my favorite estate sale specialists, Kevin and Vicky of the YES Co. in San Francisco, to let me know when there are cat trinkets to be had.

Christmas ornament and wooden salt-and-pepper shakers that clip together by magnets. Adorable!

A few weekends ago I got an email about a three-day sale in the Sunset District that set my heart a-thumping. "Completely full home of old-time San Franciscan family" was enough to get me hopping, but Kevin's photos and descriptions of "CAT CAVALCADE, NECESSITIES NATION. EVERY AREA IS PACKED" meant I had to get over there, stat.

This was just one of the photos from Kevin's email. I already had an irregular heartbeat seeing this.

I was afraid that the professional antique dealers would clean out the house before I got there, because we couldn't make it until Sunday. The upside of a late visit meant everything would be half price -- although I was fretting the sale would be too picked over.

How wrong I was. 

We walked up the path to a cute little house with ocean views, and I was immediately confronted by rows and rows of ornamental cats of all eras and descriptions. There were tables crowded with maneki neko, salt and pepper sets, Christmas ornaments, keychains, and earrings, and every single item had kitty ears and a tail. Clearly, whoever had lived here was a major cat lover. I was among my people!

Postcards, greeting cards, and stamps: Spread the cat lady love!

Before I could scoop up more than a handful of the ornaments, my husband, Wade, called me: "Get downstairs now -- everything's free in the garage!"

I stashed my stuff and ran down to a scene of chaos. People were hurling stuff in and out of cardboard boxes across the garage and garden, and struggling out of the house under piles and piles of ... treasure? Trash? It was hard to tell in the melee.

Wade was huddled in a corner, guarding a pile of cat books. I quickly found a cardboard box and added everything I could find that was remotely cat-related -- pillowcases, greeting cards, and this lovely quilt.

I think the cat on the left might be possessed, so I put him with the happy fluffyhead to counterbalance his evil.

The garage was dusty and musty, but I was filled with a bargain hunter's zeal. There's no better price than free, after all -- and might I be saving some real treasures from the dump? 

I usually draw the line at cuddly toys or plushes, but this bedraggled, graying gonk-kitty was crying out to be rescued. Her straggly nylon fur felt icky to touch, but I knew I couldn't let her get trashed. (I get a lump in my throat when I see threadbare teddies and toys at sales -- it makes me sad that they were loved for so long and are now so discardable.)

Kevin stood by and laughed as I staggered out of the garage with four overbrimming boxes of cat stuff and headed back upstairs. I had sated the thrift gods, so I could now take my time in the rest of the house. And can you bet the house's rooms were full of yet more cat stuff.

I didn't count my hoard of cat ornaments at the time, but it was pushing 50 when I gathered them for the photos. I'd grabbed fairly indiscriminately, but most of them were worthy of a cat lady's home. A few of the ornaments are verging on antique, while others look like silly gifts you'd get at the funfair or buy in a local gift store when you're on vacation. In your time machine. In the 1970s.

I stashed a bunch of the cat tchotchkes in a box, but I put my favorites on the bookshelf so they can all peer out at me, coquettish, innocent, or even just like sourpusses. Some of these little beasts have funny expressions, so I tried to pull a few faces to match.

These two define the term "glamorpuss."

Wade isn't too keen on the kitty clutter, so I'm still thinking of donating the bulk of my thrift score to the Teal Cats -- but some of these little critters have such sweet faces that I might have to keep a few of them. I can't imagine erasing those pink noses and gilt tiaras, even for charity. 

As for the soft toys -- neck pillows, doorstops, cuddlies, and all -- I don't know what I'll do with those, but I may yet press them on houseguests.

At this point, I think things might be going a little too far in the cuddly cat world.

I saw Kevin last weekend when I bought a set of cat-headed fire irons (hey, at least these are useful!) from his latest sale, and he showed me some pictures of next week's sale featuring something like 500 cat ornaments. I'm not sure whether I'll go -- we have friends in town -- but I'm already getting the thrill of the chase. After all, you never know what treasures you might find in someone else's garage.

Bub's dude, Mike Bridavsky, has stated that he only works with his friends when creating Bub products, proceeds of which go to animal organizations like Pets Alive, the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, and Monroe County Humane Association. 3. Henri, le Chat Noir

Henri, le Chat Noir, the philosophical French feline from Seattle, whose existential musings launched millions of YouTube hits, is no slouch himself. Here's where I admit that I haven't been brave enough to wear a pair out in public (yet), but if I do decide to dip my paw in the feline cosplay pond, these are the hottest new styles that I'd be excited to try first.

The days of single cat-ear headband options are over. Now, we're free to express our best cat selves through pearls, lace, flowers, and sleekly geometric designs that are equal parts edgy and adorable.

1. Floral Cat Ears

I am obsessed with Locketship, the creative line of colorful, kitty-related accessories by designer Maria Ewing. Her latest collection, Día de los Meowtos, is a celebration of the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, and features covet-worthy kitty sugar-skull necklaces, rings, and brooches that have all been dipped in a healthy dose of glitter.

The centerpiece of the collection, however, is the delicate cat ear headbands, which come in delicious shades of lavender, mint, and pink. The tiny roses are constructed out of paper and come together to create a gorgeous floral crown that transcends the label of crazy cat lady.

Another popular fabric choice for cat ear headbands is lace, so I'm loving this delicate option from ASOS Collection. The slim band features a woven ribbon trim and sheer-lace ear details, which are decidedly sophisticated.

In addition to cat ears, it appears to be open season on all animals when it comes to these trendy accessories for spring. I've also spotted lace bunny ears and mouse ears, so it's easier than ever before to represent your favorite critter in style. 

3. Cyber Cat Ears Headband

If lace isn't your thing, I'm really feeling these cyber cat ears from TopShop. The sharp plastic points make them feel slightly more dangerous. They're the perfect complement to a night out on the prowl.

To soften them up a bit, the headband is also available in a super-pretty floral print, which makes me want to dress up and drink tea in a garden. Whoever thought there'd be a day when there would be so many different styles of cat ears to choose from, and that you could mix and match them to fit any outfit or mood? 

4. Sarah Beaded Cat Headband

I'm intrigued by how unconventional cat headbands can really add polish to any outfit, just like a perfect piece of jewelry. The beaded kitty headband by BooHoo flips the notion of a pearl necklace on its head by crafting the beads into a cool headpiece that still looks simple and sweet.

While it's perfectly fine to wear the ears with whatever you'd like, I love the juxtaposition of pairing the delicate pearls with a leopard-print shirt with a studded collar. It's a really interesting way to keep with the entire cat theme, but still looks fresh and current.

5. Geo Cat Ears Headband

Out of all of the headbands I've seen this season, the black-and-white Geo Cat Ears Headband by TopShop takes the title of most chic. The Art Deco-inspired design is tailor-made for the sophisticated feline fashionista who isn't ready to sacrifice her fashion sense for the love of cats.

It was a simple throw rug, purchased at the local farmers' market, and crocheted with recycled materials. I knew the crafter and liked the rug so much that I ended up buying two more -- one for the bathroom and one for the entryway.

We heat primarily with wood during the long Minnesota winters. Unfortunately, sparks or coals sometimes escape the woodstove and land on the carpet near the hearth, leaving ugly burns and marks. We wanted to cover these up, so I jumped at the chance to buy a colorful, locally made rug to dress up that area of the living room. I put it in front of the wood stove as soon as I got home.

Moments later, my grey tortie inserts herself -- no way is she going to let Chester get on the rug.

I have six cats. Rarely is this rug uninhabited. In fact, I have seen all six cats smash themselves into each other to all fit on the rug. They like being on the rug better than being on the carpet underneath. Of course, the rug is really popular if the woodstove is going. If it's summer and sun puddles spill into the house, the cats will move accordingly.

The mystery of the crumpled-up rug

One winter morning, I woke early and went into the living room to start the woodstove. The little rug was crumpled and askew. My first thought was, "Oh no, someone pooped on the rug and tried to cover it up!" (This doesn't usually happen, but still ...) But when I flattened the rug out, it was clean, poop-free, and throw-up free.

The mystery was solved later that night. We were watching a movie, sitting by the fire. Out of nowhere, Bluebell, the kitten, rushed at the rug, tunneling under it. There she stayed. One of the bigger boys jumped on her. Good-will snarling and wrestling ensued. In a matter of moments, the rug was several feet away and the cats were happily engaged and playing.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that you need to spend lots of money on cat toys. Cats are very creative!

Cats vie for the best position on the rug

Not only is the rug a great plaything, but certain spots are most desirable on the rug. Closest to the fireplace appears to be the best -- though recently the cats have also discovered that they like to lie on the hearth. Thankfully, I like to clean, and I wipe the hearth clean each morning. I don't want the cats getting ashes and wood dust in their fur.

It looks as if these cats are buddies, but actually, my black cat is slyly pushing the other cat off the rug with his hind leg.

We've had no accidents, but we are very very careful about loading wood when cats are nearby.

Of course, cats are like humans. The more scarce the resource seems to be, the more the cat wants it. If there's less room on the rug because lots of cats are on the rug, another cat wants on the rug even more.

They love the woodbox, too

Ah, cats. If they can't go outside (and mine don't), they'll bring the outside in. This probably explains why they love the woodbox. We have a large woodbox they climb into. The smell of the wood seems to really make them happy -- maybe they're smelling all the good, outdoorsy things like voles, grass, and critters that live in woodpiles. They love the small kindling woodbox, too. Kieran regularly gets his pretty white fur dirty with wood dust.

Talking about the Oscars, are you ready fur my Top 5 BEST and WORST dressed of 2013??

First, the good news: Some purrsons actually did a decent job, like Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. It looked too bridal fur me, but hey at least she WON an Oscar.

I also liked Jane Fonda A LOT in yellow Versace. I mean, she is like 110 years old and she took a fashion risk with the color and the retro-look dress.

Kerry Washington dressed in Miu Miu, or should I say MEOW MEOW because the coral dress was very cute. I only have one complaint: She needed more lipstick. Why would a girl want to make her lips smaller? Her lips are BEAUTIFUL! Kerry, girl, everypawdy PAYS to get lips like yours ... sadly they end up looking like ducks if they are lucky!

Seriously, what was Kelly Rowland thinking in that dress? Was she looking fur a pimp?

Kristen Stewart had that "I just woke up" hairdo and oops, she forgot to wear a bra. Seriously, you are 22 and your boobs should be UP. Wear a bra!

And who didn't snooze with Jennifer Aniston? She didn't look bad, but she is sooo boringly safe! Jennifer, you have a rocking body, pretty hair, and face -- DO SOMETHING WITH THEM! Seriously, you are killing me, girl.

Even PRADA makes mistakes. Oh, girl -- you were an Oscar nominee FUR GOD'S SAKE. Luckily for you that dress didn't influence the Academy decision and you won! ConCATulations, Anne, but I can't stop feeling bad that you were wearing THAT on your most imPURRtant night of your career. Somebody at Prada needs to get fired, and also your stylist -- SATIN, RACHEL ZOE? FUR REALS??

Also, Anne, you look too thin. Eat a taco, please! You look way more pretty with more skin.

Another satiny disaster. WTDP (Who the dog poop) had the idea that Satiny looks good on gowns? You just need to take a look at that fabric fur it to wrinkle!
