A DDP today! Me?

I woke up to learn that I am a DDP honoree today. Thank you Catster HQ and Diary Gal. I am honored. I am joined by two sweet furiends in this honor. Please concatulate Hannah and Joey.

Also, please give Hannah and her sweet furmily your love and prayers as her beloved brofur Riley went to the Bridge. Our hearts are deeply saddened for them.

And Joey was recently found to have cancer and is currently taking chemo. He had his first one. Please send Joey and furmily your purrs and prayers.

My pawrents were not home much of yesterday. You see, my pawrents first grandchild graduated from college yesterday. They got all of us up at 5:30 AM to eat. My pawrents had to leave at 6 AM for the drive to see Kara graduate. All this week my meowmy has been backing up my insulin shots because she had to get me on a schedule where I could get my normal 9 AM insulin shot at 6 AM. Well, because of all the EARLY to-do going on, I was catfused and I had not eaten enough of my food to receive my insulin so you know what that means... yes... a FF. I was not a happy camper as my meowmy was forcing food down my throat at such an early hour. Pfffffttttt. This morning, I made sure that I had eaten. Now we are reversing the time change for my insulin. Humans can be so trying at times in their demands on us! Too bad they can't be as purrfect as we are. MOL.

Today, my pawrents are preparing some covered dishes to take to the graduation celebration. Kara graduated with her boyfuriend of about 4 years and his pawrents live about an hour away from us. They are hosting a pawty for Kara and Frank today and so my pawrents will be gone yet another day. Right now my meowmy told me she has to go and make her covered dishes to take to the pawty but she has promised me that she will allow me to check my diary messages later today. It is a tough life being a cat and unable to do our own diaries without the help of our slack typists.

To make matters much worse for me, I received some nice gifties since my last diary entry that my meowmy has allowed me to miss mentioning. I tell you... my typist needs to get her act together... or else... I think I need to have a "chat to chat" with her...

On the 12th, Rusty sent me a Deck the Howls!! He said, "Hey Hooch! Do you like to climb trees? I did when I lived outside. Have a great Christmas season!! Rusty" I don't remember, Rusty. I was a little fur when I wound up at the pound and a nice couple adopted me. I have always loved to climb around inside our home, however.

Can you believe that my meowmy allowed me to fall behind... yet again? She is getting too slack... or is it overworked? Hmm, thoughts to ponder.

It is too late for my purrsonal thank yous tonight but my meowmy will try to help me tomorrow... AFTER she gets home. She and my dad are driving to Greenville, SC to help my dad's sisfur strip wallpaper in her bathroom. Like, isn't there enough to strip at our home? I will never understand humans. Furless beings can be catfusing fur sure. Meowmy says it is a 3 plus hour drive round trip. I think Meowmy needs to stay home more and take care of things here.

Meowmy needs to get MY priorities in order!

Pffffffttttt! After I pawed my diary yesterday, my meowmy got too busy to help me anymore. She muttered something about cleaning litter boxes and getting ready to go to a Christmas pawty out of town and then to my dad's high school Christmas dinner. Do you know that Meowmy would not help me anymore yesterday. I really don't like the way Meowmy allows HER agenda to get in the way of my agenda. This is kitty ABEWSE! Meowmy did not get in until late, time for my shots, at least. Then, her tummy gave her fits. Meowmy used to suffer from IBS (I think it is like my IBD) but has not had problems with that for years... UNTIL last night. So, I guess I must forgive her for not helping me after she came in.

I want to thank all my sweet furiends for the pmails and gifties for my DDP honor yesterday. And AGAIN, I really want to thank each and effury single furmily for all the prayers for me this year. Meowmy says that she knows that without the love and support of each of you, I would not have done as well as I have. It was indeed a long and painful year for me but I am as good as I will get now. My doc doc says I will need to be on the current meds (insulin, potassium, Ursodiol and Denamarin) for the rest of my life but Meowmy says that is a small price to pay to have her Tugboat Hooch in her life. Thank you all for loving me through my rough year.

And last but definitely not least, I learned tonight that a sweet furiend Riley is going to have to make his Bridge journey tomorrow. I am deeply saddened by this news. I had so hoped Riley would rally and be better. Please send your love and purrs to Riley and his furmily. My heart just keeps on hurting with all the losses of such sweet furiends. 2009 has been a very sad one for us... so many furiends had to leave us.

I am doing okay but Meowmy is awaiting me eating a little more this morning or else I will have to have a FF. I don't want that so I must list my concats and then go think about eating before I have no choice in the matter and wind up with a FF.

Yay, the Fructosamine showed I am doing purrty good.

Yay, my Fructosamine came back in the good range. My doc doc called my meowmy this morning before Baby G's appointment to tell her that we seem to be on target with my new insulin now. I won't have to go back for a month. I will get my B 12 and another Fructosamine at that time. Now, I just have to stay well and have NO problems for that long. I can do it, really I can! *does the happy dance*

Chef Rooster made me chuckle with his comment. He called me Tug Boat Hooch. He said HOOCH! (Chef waves madly) I am glad you are back home and safe from those vampires! I am purring all is going well for you all! Keep on your Mamma. You are her Tug Boat. That is what My Lady calls me, as I guide her from the bed, to the potty, to the food and then to the food dishes..mol..all the while meowing my 'horn' . Tug Boat Hooch! Purrs and a (((hug))) Chef Rooster I really like that! Tug Boat Hooch... it certainly fits. MOL.

Newman said he never heard of a fructosamine. Meowmy looked it up and here is something that may help him understand better what it is - Patients with diabetes mellitus may be defined as having a disturbance in the oxidation and use of glucose for energy production. This may be secondary to decreased production or release of insulin by beta cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans, or due to an abnormal tissue response to the presence of insulin. This disease is relatively common in both dogs and cats and is treated with insulin injections and dietary restriction. Regulation of insulin administration is important in controlling diabetes. Fructosamine is formed by the glycosylation of circulating proteins and is related to circulating glucose concentration. Fructosamine measurement can aid in the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and in the assessment of blood glucose control in treated diabetic patients. I hope it helps Newman more than it helped me because those are hard words for a cat to understand.

We know how to provide Meowmy with excitement!

This morning was going along furry well. I helped my meowmy up and down the stairs with my food. I have gotten where I purrfur to eat my breakfast downstairs in the living room so effury morning, I assist my meowmy upstairs to get my food and bowl and then I help her take it back downstairs where I can dine. I normally try to stay ahead of her and I just love to turn sideways on the stairs in front of her to be sure she is carrying my breakfast properly. She keeps telling me to go on and that I am going to trip her. Now why would I want to trip her? That would cause my breakfast to spill out.

Things appeared to be normal. I got my insulin and my potassium as usual. Then about 10, Meowmy came in the living room carrying THAT thing... you know... the prison carrier. I took off like a streak of lightning but Meowmy was hot on my trail. I tried to hide under the chair in the living room but it was useless. Meowmy was cheating because she watched me run under the chair. She tried to get me out but I have her quite the struggle. When she finally got me, she began to feel wet drops in strange places and wondered if I had begun to pee out of fear but then she thought that if I had peed that it was strange. Then she felt her hair and it was wet. The goofy ol' gal had leaned into our Drinkwell while trying to capture me. Served her right!

Karisma had come home from her honeymoon in order to get her Rabies shot today. She was really D-U-M-B about the prison carrier. She went in most willingly. Didn't she hear my wails? The silly girl never made a sound the whole ride to the doc doc's. That's okay as I made enough for both of us. In fact, my meowmy rudely videoed me this morning in my attempt to escape from the prison carrier. She said she will upload it later if it is any good. Pfffffftttt. Maybe one day I can embarrass her, too.

Meowmy must really be out to get me. She allowed the vampires to take me back into the back room again. I had another Fructosamine. Wait, this is too early! My doc doc was in on this evil plot. They are all against me! Pffffffttttt. And my doc doc was supposed to have cataract surgery this week. Maybe IF she had it, I would not have had to see those vampires! Now she is going next week for one eye and the following week for the other eye. I think I will invite the vampires to visit her. Turn about is only fair play. Right?

So, we are awaiting the results of my Fructosamine. We hope to hear this afternoon late, like the last time but it could be tomorrow before we hear. In the meantime, I am to continue my 1 unit of insulin twice daily. Humans have a hard time deciding what is best for us sometimes.

Meowmy gets deeper and deeper in moose mess with us!

Well, I must tell you that all of us kits are MIFFED with our meowmy. She has been too busy to let us attend our diaries and pmails. Can you believe the nerve of her? She has been involved in stripping wallpaper. Then, she had to wash off the old glue and prepare the wall. There were cracks to patch, holes where pictures were hanging to fill, then sanding the wall to make it smooth enough to paint. Then came the painting. Meowmy did manage to grab some time online to tend the farms, hunt Hatchlings, decorate her Yo home and take care of her cat "Cuddles" on Pet Society. I KNOW... none of those are REAL... HELLO, are we chopped liver? Well, now we know where we stand in her world! Pfffffffttttt.

Meowmy and my dad were preparing the Thanksgiving food for most of the week of Thanksgiving. That really took most of their time... they shopped for the food, prepared it to be cooked and then had to do the cooking. We had a CROWD for Thanksgiving. There were 18 strangers in our home. Yikes.... we hid... actually, Meowmy locked us in different rooms to keep those strangers away from all of us.

The day after Thanksgiving, my pawrents left early in the morning and went to one of the local malls in that madness called Black Friday. The crowds were out and about. They did NOT go to shop but to meet up with a dear furiend and his furmily who had driven down from High Point for the day. When I say the day, I mean the day. It was dark when my pawrents returned home and our dinner was LATE. This is not cool.

On Saturday, my pawrents left in the morning to go to the NC mountains (Saluda) for the day to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary of a family member. AGAIN, my pawrents were gone all day long and it was really LATE when they returned... well past dinner. Meowmy was even late by almost an hour giving me my insulin. Even Meowmy was NOT a happy camper about that.

On Sunday, my pawrents went to the same mall to meet up with three of my dad's cousins who had driven in for the anniversary pawty. So, they spent another day at the mall and got home at dinner time.

Yesterday, Meowmy spent the day playing catch up with too many things and guess what? She did NOT get caught up. But I made her promise to attend to our needs first this morning... so she is attempting to do just that.

It will take us a while to get over our neglect! Pffffftttt!

On the 26th, my new furiend Swoosh sent me a fun brusselball. He said, "Thanks for being my new fur friend! Hopefully, we can be playmates cuz sometimes my bigger brothers all gang up on little 'ol me! They certainly hog up all the food!"

Hello to all my furiends. I have not posted in a while as things with me have been going along purrty good. Meowmy doesn't notice any changes in my actions since I switched over to the new insulin. She told me that some days I look a little more ragged than others but my actions are fine. I am not drinking nor peeing more and this is good news. I go for my Fructosamine tomorrow and we are hoping my results say we are "on target". I did give Meowmy a little fright yesterday. I was in the family room and making THAT noise. She came running in to find me throwing up foam. I could see her distress with my latest act but I only did it once and my actions were fine the rest of the time. She is hoping I ate part of a leaf that my dad may have tracked in in his return from the grocery store and that the leaf cause my issue.

I want to take this time to wish all of my precious American Catster furiends and their furmilies a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING on Thursday. I send love to each of them and my love to all my other Catster friends scattered all over the world.

Yesterday, a lovely card and sweet fish shaped picture ornament arrived from a sweet furiend named Rusty and his furmily. Thank you for this precious gift and for your special furiendship and love.

I just learned this morning and a sweet friend named Riley is in serious need of our purrs. I haven't heard if he made it through the night but want to ask for love and purrs for him and his furmily. Riley, I love you!

On the 22nd, my cute little sisfur Karisma married the most handsome Mr. Lollycat McNoNo. Their wedding was beautifur, in spite of all the last minute glitches.

10:30 PM EST ~

I went to the doc doc today and the vampires ARE still there! My meowmy did ask that they not shave so much of my fur off as it is finally coming back. They were furry nice and only took a little fur. Backing up, my meowmy surprised me when she picked me up to place me in the prison carrier. And she forgot to latch the door securely... so, I took that opportunity to escape and the chase was on. Unfortunately, she caught me and placed me into that horrid prison. I began to yowl and did so the whole way to the doc docs. Poor Baby G had to listen to me wail because she was going for her B12 shot.. we went a little early because the doc doc will closed from Thanksgiving Day until Monday for the holiday.

When we arrived, they took me out of the carrier and carried me back into the back of the hospital to gather my blood. We were there a long time. My doc doc said my glucose was actually low, reading only 85. She expected 185 but not 85. She said that she wanted to back off on my insulin until we heard from the fructosamine report. I was placed on 1 unit in the morning and 1 unit in the evening. Because of the holiday, my doc doc did not expect to hear from the fructosamine until Monday but guess what? They called her late in the afternoon with the report and, as my doc doc thought, my level was down. So, I started with 1 unit tonight. We will see how that goes. I am to go back to Dr. Booker on Thursday, the 3rd of December. That is my only human sisfur's birthday. Hopefully, I can give her a good report for her pawresent from me. Guess what I weighed? I was 14.7 pounds. I haven't seen this weight in a long time. My doc doc definitely does not want me to gain any more weight. I really wish these humans would make up their minds about my weight. You just can't please humans.

I am on day two of my new insulin and Meowmy is back online.

My day started off yesterday with a surprise visit to the doc doc. I was forced to change my insulin due to the problem with the Vetsulin stability. My new insulin is Lantus. Meowmy was not comfortable in the change until my doc doc showed her how to measure the dose and use the new needles. So, while my meowmy had me captured in my room, she grabbed me and placed me in the prison carrier. I did try to hide but, with Meowmy watching, I was having problems in finding a successful hiding place. Meowmy took me downstairs where I saw Patchez who was in the other prison carrier. The poor girl had already been captured. The least she could have done was give a warning howl so I could have hidden BEFORE Meowmy made it upstairs. Gee, thanks a lot, Patchez.

When we arrived at 8 AM, my doc doc was waiting for us. My doc doc is on vacation this week but came in just for my visit. She loves me! She did not want me to begin the new insulin on or toward the weekend and, since I am almost out of my current (and good bottle) of Vetsulin, she wanted to start me on it early in the week. That way IF there is a problem, we should know about it before the weekend arrives.

I was weighed upon arriving at the doc doc's and I weighed in at 14.5 pounds. While my pawrents are furry pleased seeing me fill out again since this wild roller coaster medical ride began in February, I think I have a food intervention in my NEAR future. While my doc doc did NOT say anything about my weight yesterday, I KNOW she does not want me to gain too much because of my diabetes. UH OH. I got my B12 shot yesterday, too. It was only 3 days early. My doc doc and meowmy did not want to stress me out by having me come in again on Friday, if I don't have to do so. I will have to have another Fructosamine done in two weeks IF I do well until then on my Lantus. We are hoping and praying it will do well but my doc doc told Meowmy that, in all probability, we will have to make those needed adjustments until finding the right dose... just like when we started with Vetsulin. Meowmy is not looking forward to me possibly taking steps backwards. I have had the best two months of this year thus far and we don't want to backslide... all because of a drug problem that isn't even our fault! Pffffffttt.

When my pawrents brought Patchez and me back home, they left us alone for the whole day. Sheesh. Don't they know is IS pouring buckets of rain outside? They told me something about this trip had been planned for months with a church group. They were going to the NC mountains to eat a family style meal there. It is a place called Shatley Springs and lots of people go there to eat. My pawrents were taking a church bus up with about 45 other people. Now, going to the mountains in a "monsoon" makes no sense to me... but I AM a cat... so what do I know? And my pawrents told me something about it was planned and their money was needed to help pay for the trip as they were counted in the original cost of the trip. Now, going to the mountains in pouring rain on a church bus doesn't exactly sound safe to me but what do I know? I AM a cat! My pawrents were supposed to return home about 4 PM but they were much closer to 7 PM in arriving home. I wonder if they realized that we were almost two hours late in getting our dinner? Inconsiderate pawrents! Pfffffttttt.

To make matters worse, my meowmy's nose was "out of joint" yesterday. You see, she could not get on the catputer. It started late on the 8th. Meowmy just thought it was a problem with our internet provider as that does happen occasionally. And the problem getting online was on all our catputers on Sunday so Meowmy never gave it a second thought, even though she was annoyed on Sunday evening. But, when she tried to check Catster yesterday morning and could not get online, she realized it was something else. So, Meowmy left on her trip in a rather annoyed state. *giggles* She said it dampened her trip! Well, DUH! It was pouring rain.

My dad had his Blackberry with him so Meowmy did manage to type a message on her Facebook about not being able to get online. She got several helpful hints but, when she got home, NOTHING worked. It seems her router (LinkSys) is not working. She ended up calling Windstream and they talked her through hooking back up directly and she now has one of the catputers back online. At least she is not cut off from the world now. MOL. So, Meowmy has wiped the scowl off her face, even though she now has to go out and get a new router. Hers was out of warranty and would cost almost as much to renew (to get help IF it is fixable) as to buy a new one. The last time she had a problem, they told her that there were newer and better ones available now. So, she said it was time to shop. It should be interesting in seeing her try to set it up... I will imagine she will end up calling her guru son to help. MOL. Until he can get over to help, she will continue to operate off the one catputer and won't have the laptop nor will my dad have his catputer. That should get him on the ball to get the new router purrty soon. My dad is even less catputer savy than my meowmy. This should be fun to watch.

I am in hiding today.

Well, I heard the prison carrier come out this morning and I immediately went into seclusion and hiding. My meowmy keeps calling me but I will NOT come out. She even told me that I was acting goofy because the prison carrier was NOT for me. I DON'T believe her... I did hear Baby G's yowls and know she was carried out and gone for a while BUT I do NOT trust my meowmy not to capture me and take me to the doc doc too... I think I will stay in hiding today.

I overheard my meowmy talking about my Vetsulin. Many of you know there was a problem in the Vetsulin. I have been on Vetsulin since my diabetes was found and have done furry well since the correct dosage was found. It is furry upsetting to my meowmy to know I have to change my insulin now. Meowmy is going to my doc doc's on Tuesday to be shown the new dosage. My doc doc has chosen Glargine U100 insulin (Lantus) for me. I am to start with 2 1/2 units in the AM and then 2 units in the PM. Meowmy just wants to be shown how to measure because my doc doc told her the syringes were different sized. That scares my meowmy and she doesn't want to mess up.

FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine Alerts Veterinarians About Problems with Vetsulin® to Treat Diabetes in Dogs and Cats
November 2, 2009

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health are alerting veterinarians and pet owners that Vetsulin®, a porcine insulin zinc suspension used to treat diabetes in animals, may have varying amounts of crystalline zinc insulin in the formulation. Because this Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health product is out of specification it could cause a delay in insulin action and an overall longer duration of insulin activity. Products having significant problems with stability can affect the management of chronic diseases. Unstable insulin products can result in unpredictable fluctuations in the glucose levels of diabetic patients. Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is unable to assure FDA that each batch of their product is stable.

FDA and Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health request that veterinarians closely monitor their patients receiving Vetsulin® for any changes in onset or duration of activity, or for any signs of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. The classic signs of hyperglycemia include increased thirst, increased urination, weight loss and lethargy. The classic signs of hypoglycemia would include disorientation, unsteadiness, weakness, lethargy, and seizures.

While Intervet/Schering-Plough is working with FDA on resolving this issue, supplies may be limited. Therefore, veterinarians should consider transitioning their diabetic patients to other insulin products. In addition, FDA encourages veterinarians to report any adverse events with the Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health product to the company through the Technical Services Department at 1-800-224-5318.
