Mommy got me to the vet today. I was very unhappy about this. I was sure that my time had come to be sent away since she's brought in those "replacement" cats. But I guess I got a reprieve cause she brought me back home.
The vet gave me an injection of Covenia and and injection or Vetalog. One of those is an antibiotic and one is a cortisone but I dunno which is which. He said I either have an URI or an allergy but there was enough inflammation that he thought it was a URI. He said "we caught it early enough." But when mommy told him my eyes had been weepy since Salem and Lucy got here the vet volunteered: "Cats can be allergic to other cats." I poked my tongue out at mommy and said: "Told you so!" Well, not really, but I thought it. But he did say that with enough exposure I ought to get over it if it was that.
He also said that it was highly unlikely that I was allergic to the Feliway diffusers. He was familiar with them and said he had used them from time to time and he didn't think they had any ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction.
I've lost some weight since my visit in July. I'm down to a mere 12.7 pounds. That's a .7 loss since my last visit. It's the stress I'm tellin' ya! I'm just miserable. And I'm making sure everyone else is miserable right along with me!
miserable; not purring,
P.S. from mommy: the vet said I could crush his Benazepril pill! Yay!! Keep all your paws crossed that he noms up his canned food with the pill in it because that means he can stay home when we go on our vacation.

Ever since Salem and Lucy moved in I have had watery eyes. Now, mommy is purrty sure that kitties don't actually cry like humans do so she is worried what is up with my eyes.
At first she thought maybe I got Salem's cold that he had when he first moved in. But I haven't sneezed or anything and except for being extremely grumpy, I've not had any other behavior changes; litter box duties, appetite, etc. are the same.
The watery stuff from my eyes dries up to crusty brown and mommy has to wipe it off the corners of my eyes from time to time. I'm trying to convince mommy that I am allergic to Salem and Lucy! But today, daddy suggested maybe it's the Feliway diffusers that are making my eyes water.
I've taken to having a winky eye now too. The rims of my eyes look mildly, very, very mildly, inflamed. Mommy hates to haul me off to the vet (at least that's what she claims, personally I think she is trying to kill me with that pill she's been trying to sneak in me every night that she claims is for my reduced kidney function. I found that sucker in the SPAM tonight! So so much for that method!) but she thinks she may have to this week.
Any other cat ever act allergic to a new house member or to a Feliway product? Or could my watery eyes truly just be because I'm so upset?
unhappy, not purring,
P.S. from mommy, I guess I'm also going to have to ask the vet if I can crush his pill to try to sneak it into his canned food. If not, I fear there will be no choice but to board Edgar at the vet's when we go on vacation in Nov. because my cat-sitter can't get near him most of the time (did I ever mention that he doesn't really like people besides me and daddy?) and if he won't eat it in the SPAM and we can't mix it crushed into his canned food (he figured out it was in the canned food when I didn't crush it and would eat around it) then I don't see any choice but wrassling him down and shoving it down his throat, which I can do, but no way could my cat sitter. Please let me know if you all know of any cat having an allergic reaction to other cats or to Feliway.

My title says it all.
Fortunately mommy hasn't let me see too much of them since I bit her thumb on Saturday. But I seriously do not like this getting locked up in the kitchen thing! And daddy's is complaining about it too because that is where he sits all night watching t.v. and he says I won't "shut up" when I'm locked in there. Well duh. It's MY house! Locking ME up so that Salem *growl growl* can have lap time with mommy is just about unforgivable!
I'd pack up and leave if I knew where my suitcase was and had someplace to go. One good thing is that mommy keeps her bedroom shut when she lets them out so that they don't get their stinky smell on MY bed where I sleep with MY mommy.
How long is it going to take mommy to figure out that they have to go???
still hate them, not purring,
P.S. from Mommy: How long is it going to take Edgar to figure out that they are not going anywhere??? The clash of two very stubborn wills (mine and Edgar's) could take some time.

My diary title applies to two things: the integration of Lucy and Salem into MY home and my attempt to catch up on my furriends' diaries.
On the diary thing, it doesn't help that Catster seems to have them all out of order. I've just gone back 30 days (I think that is as far as Catster will let you go) and I've been reading forward from the "last" kitties but I'm only up to page 20. But I know they are out of order because I read lots tonight that were just posted in the last couple of days, and some posted even today! :~/
As for the integration thing... well... mommy has broken down and confessed that she should not have adopted Salem and Lucy. I am too spoiled and I don't want to share my home. Life has been very hard for me and mommy. I even bit mommy's thumb yesterday when she had turned them loose in the house and I saw Lucy and attacked her. Mommy broke it up before any CAT was damaged, but I got her thumb pretty good and she got mad at me! ME! I'm the one who has lost my sister and had invaders move into my home! I'm just trying to defend my territory and make them go AWAY! :~(
But lest you worry about THEM too much... even though mommy knows she should have just let me be an only cat, she says they are not going anywhere. She says they are terribly sweet cats who just want to be loved on and, in Lucy's case, want to play, and who haven't been dealt a fair hand in life at all. And even though I have done my best to terrorize them, effectively enough that they didn't really want to come out of their room this evening even though I was unfairly locked up in the kitchen, they still seem to be in good spirits and happy cats when they are in their room. They are very affectionate, have great appetites, their coats are looking better, Lucy loves to play and Salem will play if mommy works at getting his attention, although he'd rather have snuggles. But all that happens in their little room.
Mommy still *dreams* that someday we will be one big, happy family. I'm not sure there is enough Feliway in the world! A furriend wrote to me that I don't seem to be following any of the "rules" since I'm attacking Lucy more than Salem and she's just a little thing, and a girl. But mommy thinks it is because I don't even really know I am a cat. She says I am a spoiled rotten brat and she has no one to blame but herself.
If she really loved me she would make them go away!

I was sort of tagged by my furriend, Paste 'cause my name starts with an "E!" So here are my answers:
Do you ever wake your parents up in the night?
Do you ever tear up things?
Not much…I've torn up the piping around the edge of the ottoman because I like to sharpen my non-existent claws on it and I have tough toes! MOL!
What is your favorite treat?
Um… let me think…Oh yeah! HAM!
Can you fetch something when asked to do so?
Never fetched in my entire life I'm proud to say. I have made mommy play fetch though! :~D
Have you ever lived any place other than where you live now?
Yes, when I was a newborn I must have live somewhere because some human put me and my mommy and my siblings in a box and taped it up and left it in a parking lot. Then I lived with my fur family at the house of an animal rescuer. There were lots and lots of kitties and dogs around and my mommy and my siblings all stayed in a large cage unless someone was coming to interview us kittens, then we kittens got let out to romp and show our "stuff!" I still remember how my real mommy, who was orange like me, sat very still and solemn in the cage and watched us romp for visitors. I just know she was hoping for better lives for us.
Then, after my human mommy adopted me and my sisfur Emily, we lived in a little bitty house for a few years with mommy and daddy. It only had five rooms and one of those was a big , converted garage with no heat or air-conditioning. Then, when we were a couple of years old we moved into the house we are in now, it has almost twice as many rooms and Emily and I, now just me, get to roam the fenced in backyard! Maybe someday the new kids, Salem and Lucy, whom I still pretty much hate, will get to go in the back yard too. For now just getting to get out of their room more often is the goal.
That's it. Thanks Paste, fur tagging your furriends whose names start with P, A, S, T, or E MOL!
If you'd like to play this tag and you read this diary, consider yourself tagged!
Hanging in there, but not happy purrs,
P.S. Mommy is going to try to let me catch up on reading diaries but we are a month behind so it will take some time!

The last couple of nights mommy has opened up the guest room door and let Salem and Lucy roam the house for a couple of hours. That Lucy is smart enough to stay in her room when she sees me! Except... and you won't believe this!!! when mommy gives me a freeze dried chicken treat. Then that little black thing has the nerve to parade right out into the hall and demand a treat too! She even tried to get to MINE last night! *gasp, sputter, hiss!*
I guess she must like food about as much as I do... The rest of the time though she seems to mind her manners and stay in her room on her bed. Last night and the night before I actually went in her room while she was on the bed and I got up in the chair and looked out of the window. There was no hissing or scuffles and mommy didn't even know I was in there with her until she came in the room! MOL! But I think Lucy might have been petrified with terror up on the bed which was why she wasn't causing any trouble. Good! Shows she knows I'm the boss. Like some of my friends said, I can't be the boss if I don't have anyone to boss around.
Now that Salem...he's another story! That dude got me so upset tonight that they got locked back up early. I wouldn't even finish my canned food. And mommy had to stuff my kidney pill in my mouth 'cause I usually eat it with my food, and that got me all upset too.
The dude just won't back off! He doesn't hiss, he doesn't growl, he even kind of freezes up when give him the "bring it on!" growl and hiss. But he won't quit coming at me or walking around my house! :~( He even drank out of MY fountain last night and sniffed my food and litter box! He is going to give me an apoplectic fit!
Salem, I'M THE BOSS! *growl, hisssss*
Oh and since this introduction procedure has been started, I pooped on mom's bed... I was just trying to let everyone know it's MY bed and MY mommy! "Somebody" peed all over in the bathtub... (it was either me or Lucy 'cause mommy had Salem pretty much in her sights that evening, and mommy thinks it was me). And one of us two boys must have sprayed in the hall tonight because the smell is really STRONG! We were kind of facing off in the hall... although it's hard to "face off" with someone who just keeps coming at you without acting like he's mad or anything... what is wrong with that dude???
As for the calming collar, the scent seems to have gotten a bit milder. Mommy is not making me wear it most of the time. But she has put it on me when I get really upset, and she has rubbed it across me and it seems like maybe it does have a little calming effect. I did go and finish the rest of my canned food tonight with it on, but then mommy had also locked Salem and Lucy back up again.
Okay, okay, you're right, I'm not calling them "monsters" any more... I've figured out they are cats. But I'm still not happy with this situation!
sad, angry, confused purrs,
P.S. from mommy: I'm not too discouraged. I'm very stressed when I let them out and that probably doesn't help Edgar. I so want him to get along with them. I still really believe this is better for Edgar than being alone all day. It gives him something to think about. He is getting plenty of love and snuggles and treats. And he hasn't gotten any reprimands worse than a stern voice. He is such a spoiled boy. I love him with all my heart.

A package came for me in the mail today. I knew it was for me because I could smell it! Mommy could smell it too even as she approached the mail basket even though it was in a plastic bag inside an enevelope. (Mommy has a very sensitive nose; have you ever seen the size of that thing???).
It's my "Calming Collar." Mommy put it on me right away when she came home for lunch. Then, in about ten minutes, she turned loose the little black monster from the guest room. She had hauled the big gray one off screaming this morning and I thought, "good riddance! Adios! Don't let the door hit you in the tail! Oh, that's right, you don't have a tail! Hah!" (Now he's back, btw, I'm pretty disappointed in mommy).
But anyway, back to my story; the rest of it is short. I caught sight of the little black monster and I tried to kill her! I chased her behind the sofa (mommy tried to rescue her) then when we got out on the slick floor I puffed up real big and chased her with murder in my eyes, she's scrambled in place trying to run from me and high-tailed (whoops! She doesn't have a tail either!) it back to the guest room! Good! Stay put in there you stinkin' monsters!
If I have to poop on the bed and attempt to murder monsters whenever I see them to protect my territory, well, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do!

Last night I was pouting on mommy and daddy's bed because mommy has been spending too much time in with the monsters and you will not believe what happened. She turned them loose on me!!!! She let the monsters out!!!
And of course they came right into the bedroom where I was pouting! Cheeky little so and so's! The little black one had the good sense to run right back out when I started hissing but the gray one ran under MY... um I mean mommy and daddy's, bed!
I got down on the floor and hissssssed and growled at him under the bed. Oddly, he didn't make a peep. Mommy finally ran ME out of MY...um I mean mommy and daddy's, bedroom, and got that intruder out from under the bed and locked both monsters back up.
You would have thought that after I showed her exactly what I thought of her stupid idea of getting me some "company" that would have been the end of it. But noooooooo! Tonight she turned them loose on me again! :~(
It was just for a few minutes but enough for me to get really mad again. And what is WRONG with those two anyway?? I hiss and growl and was even puffing up my tail and they just keep trying to approach me! Are they stupid or something?? Do they not see how big and scary I am? They aren't hissing or growling though... they just seem curious. :~/
Then, after tonight's "escape" obviously aided by my traitor mother, one of them went back in their room and pooped a big ol' stinky elephant sized, peel the paint off the walls poop in their box and didn't cover it up!! You know what that means don't you? You don't cover your poop and you are trying to claim YOU are the boss! Well they'd better figure out pretty soon that I am the only boss cat around here!
I figure I outweigh the little black one by almost double and the gray one seems to be missing "pointy parts" (claws and teeth) and I understand he is due to have more teeth removed on Monday. So they'd better not mess with me!

Mommy came out of the room where the monsters are last night and she had monster-smell all over her hands! She tried to pet me with those stinky hands so I bit the you know what out of her! Then she got all sad and I felt a little bad... after she'd washed her hands off real well and put alcohol on the bite I sort of apologized, a little.
I saw the monsters again last night! I 'bout hissed myself sick! But then later, I kinda creeped up to their door...not too close... and sniffed when I thought nobody was watching.
One neat thing that I think may have happened as a result of the monsters moving into the guest room is that I got some canned FF yesterday morning AND this morning! I can dig that!!
But mommy just better not try petting me with stinky hands again! That was not cool!

There is a monster in my guest room (there used to be two of them but one seems to have gone away). I hate him. MY mommy goes in there for hours and hours at a time and closes the door and leaves me outside. (Note from mommy: It's not hours and hours at a time).
He gets Fancy Feast in the morning too when I only get it in the evening! I've tried my best to scare him off by hissing as mean as I can when I see him through the crack in the door, but he is still there. :~(
Obviously mommy doesn't love me anymore and has replaced me. :~( I'm going to go eat some worms and then I'll die and she'll be sorry.
