Arrival Story: Frank and his brother Omar were Jason & Jill's wedding gifts to each other back in 2001.
Lives Remaining: 9 of 9
Late 2007, Frank was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy induced asthma. He had been having occassional breathing "fits" for a couple of years and he was diagnosed with hairballs. Only after Frank started having the "fits" more often and us never seeing any hairballs, we took Frank for a second opinion where he was diagnosed with asthma and an enlarged heart and referred to a cardiologist. The news from the cardiologist was not very good as she stated that most cats with this advanced of heart disease only survive a year or two. However, much like his brother Omar, Frank doesn't exhibit any signs that he is sick. He is still very active and playful and loves attention. The only difference is that Frank is now on three types of medication which are crushed up into his food. He also gets one pill that is too bitter to put in his food so we have to pill him but his least favorite medication is the asthma inhaler that Frank has to breathe from. Frank is supposed to get the breathing treatment twice a day but his mom & dad just can't bring themselves to stress him twice daily so we compromise and he gets it every night. Surprisingly, Frank has been a trooper through it all and still jumps up into bed and cuddles even after getting his pill and asthma treatment. He continues to have occassional breathing fits and has a follow up visit with the cardiologist in the Spring.
