We joined a great new Catster group a couple of weeks ago called "Catster's Around the World". In this group you are given a list of 10 members to send post cards to from your home town. We sent ours out last week, one even went to South Africa and another to England!! We so far have received postcards from Mount St. Helens, Washington DC, South Carolina, and Mississippi!!!! When Boogers received a postcard from Kingsley with Mt. St. Helens on it, he mistaked it for Mt Everest. We just chalked it up to Boogers hitting the Tequila too much yesterday celebrating Cinco De Mayo! This is really a fun group and can hardly wait for the mail today!!

World's Biggest Litter Box

Ok, it's 80 degrees outside today, clear blue skies, and Mom changes my page to a RAIN theme???? (maybe Mom got TOO MUCH SUN today!!??) Now, the best thing about today is that Mom had this man build the biggest Litter Box I have ever seen--right in our backyard---and I am sure it is just for me!! They kept calling it a "raised flower bed" and talked about planting some tomatoes in it. But, one thing I know for sure, is I am going to be "planting" something in it way before she does!! What a great Mom I have.

Going Orange for the ASPCA

We are going orange to celebrate ASPCA Day on April 10th! The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and they continue to battle cruelty today The ASPCA's Mission Orange is a focused effort to create a country of humane communities, one community at a time, where animals receive the compassion and respect they deserveā€”a nation where there is no more unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals simply because of a lack of resources and awareness. We salute this great organization on April the 10th and everyday. We are so proud to see so many Catster members going ORANGE!

The Chicken Dance

The tune was composed for accordion in the 1950s in Davos, Switzerland, by Swiss accordion player Werner Thomas when he was in his 20s. Thomas tended a flock of ducks and geese, so the tune was first named "Der Ententanz" (The Duck Dance). Several renditions of the song became hits. In 1963, at age 71, Thomas played the tune in a restaurant and people started to dance to it.

The dance was introduced in the United States in 1981 during the Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oktoberfest by the Heilbronn Band from Germany. They wanted to demonstrate the dance in costume but there were no duck costumes available anywhere near Tulsa. At a local television station, however, a chicken costume was available which was donated for use at the festival. And that is how the "Chicken Dance" got its name.

Hope you enjoy the music!!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!

A Leprechaun is an Irish "elf". Leprechauns are small in size, and some say they look like a tiny, old man in a top hat and red beard. They are tricky fellows and like to play pranks on unsuspecting people.
Legend says that Leprechauns are shoemakers (also called cobblers). Curiously enough, they only make one of each type of shoe. You can tell a Leprechaun is near if you hear the tapping of their hammers.

Each Leprechaun also has a pot of gold! Some say they bury it in secret places only Leprechauns can reach; others say they hide it at the end of the rainbow. One thing is for sure though, if you catch a Leprechaun he will lead you to his pot of gold and give it to you as a bribe to let him go.
Hope you all catch a Leprechaun today!!

We received some very good news today! Carmel, the cat we have been sponsoring in memory of Buddie and McKenna at Animals Friends Rescue, here in California, has found her forever home and will be spending Christmas with her new family!! We are so happy for her and know that Buddie and McKenna would be happy for her too.
It would be our greatest Christmas wish that every homeless dog and cat could find a loving home too.
Merry Christmas to all our wonderful friends here on Catster!!

My friend and neighbor Mrs. B has gone to the Bridge . . . She went into the hospital a few days ago snd I sent her some flowers. All the nurses kept asking her who this Smudge was that sent her flowers!!?? Mom tells me she won't be coming home this time. At least there will be alot of kitties to keep her company at the Bridge, but I sure will miss our visits. Her favorite color was pink. So we have decorated a Christmas tree with pink lights in our yard in her memory. I sure hope she can see it from the Bridge . . .thanks for being my friend Mrs. B.
Loving purrs until we meet again,

A Proverb For Michael Vick

If only Michael Vick had learned this proverb as a child, maybe this awful tragedy would have never happened . . . . "Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is just as important for the child as it is for the caterpillar".
