Casting call for Animal Planet!

Mom got a pawmail yesterday from Jeff at Animal Planet, Cats 101. Seems like Jeff was looking to do a story on a Norwegian Forest Cat for an upcoming episode. When asked if there was anything special about me, mom replied, "Of course!!!". Mom went on to tell Jeff about what a sweet and silly kitty I am. How I am suppose to be a great hunter, but got chased away by the only gopher I almost caught. How I love my dogs and give then massages. When all was said and done, it didn't sound like I would get a 2nd casting call. But that is OK, for the one thing I know for sure is that Mom thinks I am very special. And what's more important than that?!?!

"Raining Cats and Dogs"

I love to go outside for just a little while each day and explore around my yard. I drove Mom crazy today crying and crying for her to let me out. She finally said, "OK Smudge, I will let you outside for a little while, but it's raining cats and dogs!!". Say what?? Raining cats and dogs? What's that all about?
There are some theroies of where this term came from. One suggestion is that 'raining cats and dogs' comes from a version of the French word 'catadoupe', meaning waterfall. If the phrase were just 'raining cats', or even if there also existed a French word 'dogadoupe', we might be going somewhere with this one. But that word does not exist.
Another suggestion comes from mythology. Dogs and wolves were attendants to Odin, the god of storms, and sailors associated them with rain. Witches, who often took the form of their familiars - cats, are supposed to have ridden the wind. Is this where it came from? Cats, witches?? I don't think so!!
Well, what I did find out when I stepped out the door was that water was pouring from the sky!! Needless to say, I was soon crying even louder to get back into the house! And with a smile on her face, mom let me right back in.

Valentine's Day will be here on Saturday and there is so much to celebrate this year. First of all, our very good Catster friend RUBEN's beautiful mom Sarah was married this past Saturday to the handsome Joe. Now Ruben has a dad too! Sarah has got to be one of the most beautiful brides that we have ever seen!!! Please visit Ruben's page to see a link where you can actually see photos of the wedding. It was a beautiful wedding!!! Ruben and his family were one of our very first friends on Catster. He even has a brother and sister now, Gordy and Melody, that look alot like me!!
Next, I couldn't be more honored to be Valentine Dreamboat #16 of the beautiful SAMOA. We love reading her diaries, as she, and all of her family, provide some of the best reading on Catster! She was named after a the Girl Scout Cookie and no one looks better in boa feathers than Samoa!
We wish all of our friends on Catster a Happy Valentine's Day!

Dreaming of Snow

Mom is leaving in the morning to spend a few days in the snow at our cabin in the mountains. I sure wish I could go. Mom tells me it's just not a good idea to take my sister Sissel on a trip right now as she doesn't want to stress her out in any way. So I am going to be a good brother and stay her and take good care of Sissel along with our cat sitter Jana. I guess I will just have to dream about romping thru the snow . . .maybe someday. Mom will be back next Wednesday.

Who Let The Cats Out?

Boy did my dog brothers Wesley and Sunny get in big trouble last night--and it's all my fault. Mom accidently hadn't shut the french doors out to the backyard quite all the way last night. Wesley and Sunny were outside for their last bathroom run of the night when they decided while Mom was busy vacumning that they would let themselves back in by nudging the doors open. Well, I couldn't resist, and out the door I shot! Poor Wesley and Sunny were suddenly in BIG TROUBLE!!! It was raining pretty hard and it was dark, so I decided to come back in after a 30 minute romp. Mom was sure relieved to see me, but Sunny and Wesley are still in the "doghouse" today. I sure love those two dogs of mine.

My little sister Sissel is back to being her old self!! She was so sick for the last couple of weeks and I really did miss her. She has the Zoomies again so now I have someone to play with. I promised her I would never tease her again about her weight ( she lost 5 pounds while she was sick!!). And the other good thing? Now Mom has time to give me some attention too. I really missed her too while Sissel was sick, but I understand why she had to give Sissel most of her attention. Yes, things are back to normal again around here and that's a good thing. Special thanks to all our Catster friends for all the purrs and support while my little sister was sick. It meant so much to us.

Why I Miss My Little Sister

1.The "Zoomies" are just not as fun when you do them by yourself. 2.On a cold winter night, it sure is nice to have a friend to help you keep warm. 3. Knocking the mousies around all by yourself isn't as fun either. 4. Who can I blame for knocking all the Christmas ornaments off the the tree?? Mom now knows it's me!!! Please get better and come home soon Sissel. I miss you . . .

It would have been a great Christmas yesterday, buy my little sister Sissel was not feeling so good. She refused to eat, and anyone who knows Sissel, knows that that is not a good sign. She went to see our vet, Dr. Bill, this morning and is now hospitalized until at least Monday. I know Mom is very worried about her. I know I tease her lots about her weight, and she can be a pain sometimes. But now, my only New Year's wish is that Sissel gets better and comes home soon. I miss her so much.

I'm a Flocked Cat!!

Mom brought home our Christmas tree, only this year it looks a little different. It has snow all over it!!! Mom says that it only looks like snow and the tree has actually been "flocked"--whatever that means! . Of course, I love to walk under the tree and rub all over it. So when I emerge from under the tree covered with white, mom calls me her "flocked" cat! Does that somehow make me related to my very good friend Miss Muppet who I always hear called a" Flock Cat"???? I better pawmail the beautiful Miss Muppet and see what she says--I think it might make her giggle.

Early yesterday morning I saw that our good friend Catster Angel WALLY FOREVER LOVED. was a Daily Diary Pick. We immediately went to visit his page so we could send him a special gift. Well, as I hit the send button, my computer started to flame and smoke!! I immediatly reached over with my paw and unplugged the power source. I looked up to kitty heaven and said "Was that you Wally? Are you mad at me?" Mom took the computer into the repair shop and had it fixed. The man at the shop said that we were lucky it caught on fire while someone was right there to unplug the power. Otherwise there could have been a real fire!! We pawmailed Wally at the Bridge and, of course, he denies he had anything to do with it, as usual, unwilling to be recognized for credit when credit is due!!. But, we know better Wally, thanks for being our Guardian Angel and a very special friend.
