They really are going away for Christmas

I knew it. I knew it all along. I was suspicious that Meowmy and Grandma were planning to go away for Christmas and now I know it's true. Meowmy told me herself. She and Grandma are going on a spiritual retreat at a monastery for three days. I can't believe it. They will be gone Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and won't be back until the afternoon of the day after Christmas. This is outrageous! How can they do this to us?!

Meowmy said that she made arrangements with Santa Paws. He's going to make a special trip to our house on New Year's Eve just for us. I suppose that's very accommodating of him, but why must we wait? Just because Meowmy and Grandma want to see us open our presents? Then they should just stay home! Meowmy's friend that I wrote about is coming to take care of us. Couldn't she help us open presents? I am so distressed. This is just awful. I can't believe we are going to miss Christmas.

Maybe Autumn Amelia and I will have our own Christmas together. She went to the vet today for a rabies shot and she's still in a snit over it, but hopefully it will have passed by tomorrow evening. Even if Santa isn't coming for us until New Year's Eve, we can still have our own kitty Christmas together. We will meow Chirstmas carols, nap under the tree, sniff the presents and say our purrayers. It will still be Christmas no matter what. *sigh*

Meowmy and Grandma just better really make up for this on New Year's!

Found - one banana!

Everyone on Catster can relax now. My banana has been found. I don't know where it was, but suddenly it showed up on the guest room floor, right where it is supposed to be. It is a mystery to me as to where it went or how it got back. I suspect Autumn Amelia though she admits to nothing. Meowmy and Grandma claim to have no idea about it either. I tend to believe them more than I do Autumn Amelia. However, this may just be a Christmas mystery. However it happened, I am just relieved that my banana is back.

My Banana is missing!

As if I don't have enough trouble right now worring that Meowmy and Grandma are probably going away for Christmas, now my beloved banana is missing. I had it just last night. Now I can't find it anywhere. I looked in Autumn's pirate ship (it shows up there all too often), but it wasn't there. I looked under the beds and behind the chairs and under the couch. Where, oh where is my banana?

Suspicions Stronger than Ever

Just because I was racing around the house, chasing my tail and jumping up on tables where I'm not supposed to be, Meowmy and Grandma have decided that I'm over excited about Christmas. Well, of course I am. Who wouldn't be? But my exictment is tinged with worry (see previous diary entry).

My fears moved closer to being confirmed today. During one of my excited moments, Meowmy said, "Smokey always gets like this around Christmas time." Then Grandma said, "I know and, poor thing, she'll have to wait an extra week for Christmas this year."

"Now just what is that supposed to mean?" I meowed to them, but they gave me no answer.

After all these years they still aren't very good at Felinese. I understand their language far better than they understand mine. I even made the effort of trying to speak their language. I've made some of my meows sound like their words. For instance, I can say "out" and "NOW!" and "Why?"

But, I digress. To get back to my possible calamity, which is seeming more and more likely every day, I am greatly disturbed by their words.

Autumn Amelia remains oblivious.

Last night Meowmy's friend came over. Meowmy said her friend was coming for dinner and to visit. Even though Meowmy got home a little early she did not feed us. We had to wait for her friend to arrive and then the friend fed us. After dinner it was the friend who cleaned our litter boxes and made the "CLEAN LITTER BOXES!" announcement. Later it was the friend who brushed Autumn Amelia. She tried to brush me, too, but I would have nothing to do with it. Usually, I love to be brushed, but I knew something was up.

Before the friend left, she was the one who gave us our treats. That confirmed my suspicions. She was definately trying very hard to get into our good graces.

It won't work. At least not with me. I know exactly what this means. It means that Meowmy and Grandma are going away and Meowmy was training the friend to take care of us while they are gone. I showed them all what I thought. I hissed!

So, how long will they be gone this time? When are they leaving? When are they coming back? Does Meowmy give me this information? No! She pretends that everything is normal. She pretends they aren't going anywhere. But I know better. Autumn Amelia, of course, is completely oblivious, but I am a very smart cat and I know when mischief is afoot.

Oh, horror or horrors! I just thought of something. Christmas, my most very favorite day of the year, is coming soon. Please, no! Please don't let them be going away for Christmas! What will we do? We can't miss Christmas!

I must stop now. The very idea that they could be leaving us at Christmas is making me so distraught that I have to go slap Autumn Amelia and chew on my paws. Will write more later, when I can calm down.

What breed am I?

When Meowmy first put me on Catster, she entered "Burmese" in the Breed field. This was only a guess. Since I'm a shelter kitty, no one really knows about my background. One day she was looking through a book of cat breeds and found a picture of a Burmese with along with a personality description and thought it looked and sounded just like me, so I must be a Burmese.

Lately, Meowmy has been thinking that maybe I'm a Russian Blue. She keeps seeing other Russian Blue kitties on Catster, and MEOW do they look like me! So she changed the breed field on my page so that it reads "Russian Blue/Burmese". That way we figure I'm covered.

Purrsonally, I like the idea of being a Russian Blue (not that I have anything against the wonderful and beautiful Burmese). It's just that I do believe I'm royalty and I think the title Czarina suits me perfectly.

If any kitties out there have any ideas about what breed I really am, please by all means, let me know.

I Taught Grandma a New Trick

I had a dilemma. Everytime I would throw myself down on the floor and meow for Grandma to pet me she would always say the same thing: "Smokey I can't get down on the floor to pet you. I'm too old and I won't be able to get back up." I knew it must be so sad for her not to be able to feel my soft, velvety fur. So I thought and thought until I came up with a brilliant idea.

I went and found Grandma and meowed for her to follow me. I'd take a few steps, look back and meow, then take another few steps, look back and meow just make sure she got the idea and was coming with me. I did this all the way to her bedroom. Then I stopped right in front of her rocking chair and meowed at her and then at the chair. She finally figured out that Iwanted her to sit in the chair. Once she was settled, I jumped into her lap so she could pet me.

Now that she's been fully trained in this trick, we do it at least twice a day. Not only does Grandma pet me, but she rocks me and sings to me, too. She sings "Rock-a-bye, Smokey" and "On Top of Old Smokey" and some other song that has "Smokey" in it. Grandma loves it and so do I.

Best of all, my baby sisfur, Autumn, isn't at all interested in being held, petted, rocked or sung to, so she doesn't try to butt in on my petting time with Grandma. She did come into the room once and look at us. For a second I thought she was going to jump up on Grandma's lap, too, but then she just said, "nah, I've got other things to do" and left. She probably went off to play with her silly pirate ship.

Anyway, Grandma and I now enjoy our petting time and I am very proud and happy that my Grandma is so smart that she could learn this trick with relatively little training. Way to go, Grandma!

Adventures with the Catsitter

A few weeks ago Meowmy and Grandma went to Florida to visit our cousin, Greyson, and his furamily. Before they left, Autumn and I put some of our fur on Grandma's suitcase for Greyson to smell. I think Autumn put way too much fur on it because for a while he thought she was actually in the suitcase. Typical - Autumn always overdoes things.

Anyway, while they were gone Meowmy had a friend of hers take care of us. He even slept over so we wouldn't be alone at night. Of course, he was at work during the day so we had the house to ourselves. Ah...totally uninterrupted naps!

Well, this man was nice enough, but not very smart. He never picked out food that we actually liked. Why is picking out good food so hard for humans? At least he remembered the treats.

The big machine Meowmy uses to clean her clothes broke before she left and he supposedly fixed it while they were gone. (I think it just shows the inferiority of humans that they don't have fur and have to put on different clothes everyday and don't even know enough to lick them clean, but have to put them in big machines to do it for them!)

Anyway, he told us that in order to fix this stupid machine he would have to turn off all the water in the house. Umm...our fountain never stopped working. Not that we wanted it to stop, but this is what I mean about his not being very smart. If he turned off all the water in the house wouldn't that include our very important drinking fountain? Humans! If he didn't get that right who knows if her really fixed the clothes licking machine. We do care about that because when it broke it threw up water all over the basement and we couldn't get to our litter boxes. Meowmy brought one upstairs for us, but we do not like that. It's not where they are supposed to be. We like things to stay where they are supposed to be! (At least I do - I'm not sure Autumn cares one way or the other about much of anything.)

I was glad when Meowmy and Grandma came home. Greyson put some of his fur on the suitcases for us to sniff. He smells very handsome.

New Neighbors

My territory has been invaded. Two cats just moved in across the street. They seem to think they own MY territory. They keep coming in my yard and even right up onto my porch. This is outrageous! I must do something about it. I must stop this brazen invasion. Who do they think they are, anyway!

I told Meowy to let me out this morning. I went right up to the door and said "OUT!" She ignored me. She even kind of laughed, as if it was silly or cute that I would ask to go out. Such indignity! Doesn't she know that I have to defend my territory?

Autumn Amelia is trying to get out, too. Now that really is silly. I think all this pirate stuff has gone to her head. As if she could take them on herself. Ridiculous!

I've got to get out. But how?

I just got Tagged by BIG HARRY! Thanks for thinking of me!
(*Directions on bottom)

Q.-Are you Irish?
A. No, I think I'm Burmese, but Meowmy is part Irish.

Q.-Do you and /or your family celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
A. Aye, we do!

Q.- How?
A. Lots of Irish decorations around the house. Grandma will probably make corned beef and cabbage and we'll play Irish music.

Q.-Will you wear Green?
A. No, I wear gray every day.

Q.- What will you wear?
A. Just my beautiful gray fur. No one dares put clothes on me. I would probably not let them live if they tried!

Q.-Do you like Corned Beef and Cabbage?
A. I've never tried it. I might like the beef, but definately not the cabbage.

Q.-Do you believe in leprechauns?
A. I do.

A. Because lots of strange things happen in my house. Could be leprechauns - could be Autumn Amelia. Hey, maybe she's a leprechaun.

Q.-What would you like to find at the end of the rainbow?
A. An unending supply of treats.

Now I will tag:
