I'm so excited to be Cat of the Week! It's so wonderful, and it's such an honor to be COTW directly after my dear furriend Briana! Thank you, Catster!

Thanks also to all the kitties who sent concatulations and gifts. You will each be hearing from me individually, if you haven't already. I appreciate your furriendship!

Meow, I've got to run over to my main group, "I'm No Longer Alone," and share the news!

A Little Accident

I often like to sleep with the humans at night, and when I do, I usually take up more than half the bed. This means that mom and dad have to squeeze into the remaining space as best they can, to avoid disturbing me. It may not seem fair for me to take up so much space, but just think—I may have the smallest body, but I have the largest and most distinguished presence! So of course I need the most space.

That said, I am truly sorry that dad, having tried to squeeze himself as small as possible to make sure I had plenty of room, fell off the bed the other night. He tumbled right out onto the floor! Meow, well, at least he didn’t get hurt, because he fell on all fours, instead of falling on his head the way most humans would. (Perhaps my campaign to get them to always “think kitty” is working?) Sorry, dad!

posting pictures

Some kitties in my home group, "I'm no longer alone," are having trouble posting pictures. So I thought I would put in my diary exactly how I have done it so they could do the same. Mom and I aren't too good at computer skills but this procedure has worked fur us.

1. I went to Google Images and decided on a picture.
2. I right clicked on the picture, and then left clicked on "Properties" when it came up (it was Kally Kat who told me about doing this).
3. When the "Properties" window appeared, I selected the address (URL)--when you do this, scroll down if necessary to make sure you get all of it. This caused me trouble at first because I didn't realize that what you see is not necessarily the entire address; you may need to scroll down to get it all.
4. I pressed the "CTRL" and "c" keys simultaneously to copy the address.
5. I closed the "Properties" window.
6. I closed Google Images and went to our INLA group page.
7. On our group page, I scrolled down to "Image creator" and clicked on it.
8. I placed the cursor in the "Link" space and pressed the "CTRL" and "v" keys simultaneously to paste the address into it.
9. I placed the cursor in the "Link Description" space and typed the description I wanted--fur example, "Euphorbia."
10. I clicked on the "create forum code" button.
11. I selected the entire forum code as soon as it appeared (again, I had to scroll down to get all of it) and pressed the "CTRL" and "c" keys simultaneously to copy it.
12. I closed the "image creator" page and went to my Catster Paw Mail Box and opened the message I wanted to reply to with the picture, and clicked on Reply.
13. I wrote my reply and then I pressed the "CTRL" and "v" keys simultaneously to get the forum code into the reply. Then, when I previewed the message, the picture was there!

Visit from Shanghai

Aunt Dongmei came to visit from Shanghai with her husband Kevin and her daughter Yiyi. Mom says I was a very gracious hostess--I did yoga with cousin Yiyi, sniffed uncle Kevin's hand, and actually allowed aunt Dongmei to pet me!

I was so very good. *lies on back and rolls happily from side to side*

At night I patrolled the hallway outside the rooms where they were sleeping to make sure they were safe. I ate a piece of shrimp dumpling when uncle Kevin made them (mom and dad say uncle Kevin's are the best!) and even sniffed politely in the direction of counsin Yiyi's red bean buns. If people are nice, I do want them to feel comfortable in my palace!

Too bad they could only stay two nights. I think I could really get to like shrimp dumplings!

Good news

Dr. Gavaletz called with the results of my lab work. Yes, the mole was a melanoma, but no, it had not yet become malignant. It was discovered in time. Mom and dad are so happy and relieved!

There is some possibility that it might grow back one day in the same spot (Dr. Gavaletz's own cat had one grow back after two years), but if so, it will just have to be removed again, right away. Mom and dad will keep an eye on that area, and ask Aunt Aimee to look at it from time to time also.

He said that unlike doggies, we kitties are very prone to this problem so any moles or growths on us should always be checked and most likely removed at once.

Back from the vet

I just got back from the vet a little while ago. The first thing I did when dad let me out of that carrier thing was run upstairs to my food dish. I needed a really big snack--just think, I hadn't eaten all day! Soon I will lead mom downstairs and tell her to give me a treat in addition. But first I have to ignore her and dad for awhile so they will understand my displeasure. Imagine leaving me in that horrible place fur seven whole hours!

At least that mole thing is off my neck now. It will take two weeks to get the biopsy results, though.

A mole

Meow, tomorrow I'm going to the vet to have a mole on my neck removed. Mom noticed it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a pimple, so she didn't think anything of it--after all, she gets pimples herself, and after a short visit they go away. But mine didn't go away, and when Aunt Aimee came to give me a manicure and mom showed it to her, she said she thought the vet should see it. So mom and dad took me to that horrible place yesterday (there was a D-O-G in the waiting room--dad put my carrier behind him on the bench so I wouldn't have to see it, but I could still hear and smell it!). The vet said he would remove the mole tomorrow, and then send it to be biopsied. . . .

I'm not at all pleased at having to go back there so soon!

My Portfolio Assessment

Last week I helped mom learn how to do portfolio assessment by letting her assess me. She gave me a basket, and I put things in it like catnip mousies, a used pink nail cap with some of my hair still attached to it, some fur which I had recently shedded, and so forth. Then, today, she gave me my assessment:

Perfect fur
Perfect purr
Perfect her

Of course, I already knew that! *giggle* And, mom you aren't going to be able to compete with Mr. Nigel in the poetry department, either--that's obvious. But I, on the other paw, really am purrfect!

Firewood

Meow! Instead of playing with me, the humans spent the whole afternoon outside stacking firewood. And because they keep the firewood in a distant part of the garden, behind the magnolia tree, I couldn't even watch them while they worked. I know it's nice in the winter when they make a fire in the fireplace and we all sit in front of it together, but did they have to spend ALL AFTERNOON? *flips tail angrily*

Anyway, how could they do this dangerous work without me to watch over them? Sure enough, without my supervision clumsy mom dropped a log on two of her fingers and almost crushed them, and careless dad broke the wheel on the wheelbarrow and had to go to the store for a new one. When will they learn?

What a wasted day!

A tutu?

Meow-oh! Now I have something else to worry about. Never mind being taken to the vet a week ago because I had the slightest touch of pancreatitis. (So what if I threw up a few times? Dad enjoys cleaning up after me; it makes him feel useful.) Now, mom said she wants to dress me up in a tutu! A tutu! Me! Can you imagine?

This all started because they attended a performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” ballet last night. The heroine, Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty, was wearing a pink tutu, and mom said it didn’t become her at all because when she pricked her finger and had to lie down on the stage pretending to have fallen into a hundred years’ sleep, the tutu, which was very stiff, stuck up in the air in front and looked funny. Mom began to think that a pink tutu would look a lot better on me.

Well, I’m sure it would—I’m far more graceful than any human ballerina! But a pink collar is enough, along with my pink nail caps. They are elegantly understated and tasteful. I don’t want to wear anything else!
