I'm so excited! The Kitties' Club made me Cat of the Month for February. Twix sent me a pmail to tell me about it this morning. What an honor! Several kitties have sent me congratulatory messages or rosettes. I'm so grateful to all of them!

Wolfgang Vladimir LePew and Twinkle tagged me, so now it's time to play this game again!

Here are seven facts about me:

1. I wear pink nail caps. My manicurist, Aunt Amy, puts them on for me.

2. I am kind of a timid, shy kitty.

3. I love to watch birds eating at the feeders in the cherry tree in front of my house.

4. I prefer dry food to wet food.

5. When I'm feeling happy, I lie on my back and roll from side to side.

6. I love to listen to my mom playing the violin. She's a terrible player, but I don't care!

7. I'm still trying to figure out why I can't smell fish or birds when I see them inside the TV!

Now, I'm off to tag seven friends to play too!

I can't believe my diary is a Catster Daily Diary Pick today! What an honor! To celebrate, I'm going to write something special about my dad. Recently I was reading about "cat guys" on the Catster website, and my dad definitely deserves recognition!

My dad had a cat when he was a little boy in Vietnam. Meow, it was really his mom's cat, but it spent a lot of time with him, accompanying him on walks and supervising his daily activities. One day the cat disappeared and dad felt sad--he wondered why the cat had gone away, and whether he was all right. But a few months later, when dad arrived home from school, he heard some meowing overhead and looked up--there was the cat on the roof of the house, and he was not alone, but had a lady cat and three kittens with him! He meowed and meowed at dad, showing off his new family. Then they all jumped off the roof and ran away--dad never saw them again.

Clearly that cat went to a lot of trouble to come back and reassure dad that he was all right but had a new family of his own that he would be living with. He went to this trouble because he didn't want dad to worry about him--he knew dad would worry because he was a cat guy, and he was going to grow up to be even more of a cat guy--and he was right!

I am not the first cat that dad has had as a grown up cat guy living in the U.S. There was Merlin, who died of a congenital disorder when he was only seven--dad missed him a lot. There was Nina, who lived with mom and dad for 18 years, and took care of them almost as if they were her kittens--dad missed her a lot too. And there was Apollo, an angel kitty who did only three naughty things in his whole entire life, a kitty who was totally devoted to dad--he died tragically of lymphoma when he was only seven (the same age as Merlin!) despite chemotherapy. Dad was so sad when he died!

I am dad's only kitty now. He calls me his princess and focuses his entire life around me. Who cleans my litterbox twice a day? Who takes care of my fresh water and refills my food dish (I hate to see the bottom!)? Not that lazy mom, who is only good for brunch treats. Dad does it all. Who arranges to work from home at least once a week instead of going to the office, just, naturally, so he can be around to serve me during his coffee breaks and lunch hour? Who phones aunt Amy, my manicurist, when it's time for my nails to be attended to? Dad, of course! I am the center of his life.

Now, I'll tell you a secret which will make it even clearer what a great cat guy dad is. For the first six months I lived here in my palace, the Cat Mahal, dad did all these things for me even though I was scared of him and wouldn't go near him, and would even run out of the room when he came in! At the shelter I had only had human female caretakers, and I was scared of guys. It took me a long, long time to get used to dad and begin to appreciate him. But he understood and never, never blamed me or showed any resentment--because he's a cat guy and he really understands cats!

Here's my new song--I just wrote it.

Meow, the weather outside is frightful
But my palace is so delightful
Since there's no place the humans can go*
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

*so they have to stay inside and attend to ME!

Now, all I have to do is figure out how to sing a footnote!

Today was a very quiet day. Mom was out all morning at her music lesson, so I napped. Then she took a nap during the afternoon (I helped--I always help with human naps!). In the evening she and dad went shopping, so I napped by myself until they came home. I guess I'll have plenty of energy tonight for singing concerts to them! *giggles*

Meow, yesterday I discovered that I really like pastrami. I found this out when dad gave me a little from his sandwich after he noticed me sitting and sniffing in his direction while he was eating it. I don't usually like human food, but the pastrami was great! I want some more today. Felix said I would be able to get plenty if I made sure to use the "starving kitty" routine, but I don't think that will work--if you look at my primary photo you'll see why. *giggles* Perhaps if I just hang around the refrigerator while they're in the kitchen. . . .

One of my most important jobs in managing the household is to go into the linen closet and check things out. The humans usually leave the door slightly open so I can get in and out, and I jump up to the first shelf to inspect the beach towels that are stored there. Well, yesterday I was feeling particularly active, and I jumped up really high--to the second shelf! That was great. There were some nice soft flannel sheets for me to investigate, and I decided to have a nap. That was fine, but when I woke up I was hungry and wanted to go and have a snack. But when I looked down, I started to get anxious--it seemed like such a long way! I was afraid I might hurt my paws jumping down that far, and on to a wood floor rather than carpet, too. So I started meowing loudly. Finally a human came to investigate (they certainly are slow!) and lifted me down.

That's the way to do things--climb or jump up high, and then take the elevator the other way!

Today was the first day of the new year! My humans stayed home with me and we watched movies together. Whenever a cat appeared on the screen I jumped up to investigate--but, you know, movie cats never smell right!

Not much sun today. Cloudy, gray weather makes me feel even more sleepy than usual. . . . Mom says it affects her the same way. We had a nice afternoon nap together on the sofa. Other than that, not much has been going on.

What a nice day I had today, with mom and dad home! Neither one stepped outside the home territory even for an instant, except to pick up a newspaper from the driveway outside. That's the way I like it! You might wonder why it's so important to me to keep my humans inside all the time, considering that I nap half the day anyway. I can't really explain. I only know that I feel so happy when we're all here together. . . .
