Arrival Story:
Elvis and I had a connection instantly. I could tell he was meant for me the moment I held him. I’m not kidding when I say my entire life all I ever wanted was a little all-black kitten. There is no doubt I have been blessed with a happy, good life but honestly don’t think I’ve ever been as happy as when my Mom and step Dad finally allowed me to bring another cat into their house. Was it coincidence or fate that my cousin just happened to have a little black ball of fur up for adoption? And more he’s named Elvis? Growing up I was always helping my Aunt Deb foster cat and kittens. Out of all the cats that came in and out of her house and our lives, there was one in particular that decided he was content where he was and had no plans of leaving. She named him James Elvis and he just so happened to be an all black boy who stole everyone’s hearts. Just like my Elvis, her James showed everyone that being a black cat wasn’t all about bad luck and when I realized the connection between these two amazing cats, I knew Elvis would no longer be named after The King. When I finally moved out of my parents house and into my first apartment, Elvis made it a home. He was the center of attention and had the greatest personality. There was never a dull moment with Elvis. I swear he was not like any other cat… He had no balance, no grace and he certainly was never stealthy. You could hear him coming a mile away… usually at about 20 mph...around a corner and into your leg. Oh you’re not too fond of cats? Let me get in your face and show you how cute I am. Oh you like cats? Let me wind around your legs until you pet me so I can see if you’ll be a good wrestling partner… by biting you. Elvis came to me when I wasn’t feeling too good about myself. I had just graduated from college and was having a hard time finding a job in my field. I wouldn’t say I was unhappy but there was something missing. When I brought Elvis home, all the pieces fell into place. I will be forever grateful to have had Elvis in my life, even if it was for too short of a time. There is so much more... and I will most likely share moments over time. I could talk about Elvis for hours, I often do. There will never be another Elvis James.
