Purr and Pour Cat Cafe

Purr & Pour Cat Café just opened its doors this past June in Georgetown, South Carolina. Its vision is a big one: a Georgetown County free from the overpopulation of non-altered feral and homeless cats because they’ve found loving forever homes.

The café — the dream of PURRprietor Patricia Devine-Harms — gets its 12 to 15 live-in cats from the Saint Frances Animal Center (SFAC). The cats aren’t kept in cages, and they are ready to be adopted. “The reason we opened our doors is to showcase Cats + Coffee + Kindness through our mission and vision,” Patricia explains. “My goal is to ensure that our space is fun and welcoming for cats and cat lovers of all ages. We want to showcase our cats’ personalities so they can heal from previous trauma and find loving, FURever homes. Equally important is our community outreach. Purr & Pour provides community enrichment by hosting respite and educational outings for veterans, school groups, trauma survivors and other nonprofits.”

Patricia’s own cat Mr. Biscuit spent two years in a no-kill shelter, and Patricia sayshe is part of the inspiration for Purr & Pour. “Plus, I wanted to take what I knew from community advocacy (fighting human trafficking, empowering domestic violence survivors and helping foster youth) and transfer those skills to bring Cats + Coffee + Kindness to the community.”

An example of kindness is the Cat Wish Jar. “We let guests know that they’re welcome to write the name of a cat and a wish to add to our Cat Wish Jar. When the cat is adopted, we send the wishes to the new owners with a thank you note. It’s all about sowing kindness and choosing joy — joy for our adoptable shelter cats and bringing joy into our guest/adopter’s lives.”
