Introducing Pugsley, an Otherworldly Exotic Shorthair

When I first came across Pugsley, a single thought popped into my head: This is a cat who looks like a Pixar character.

Sure, we’ve all seen Exotic Shorthairs with their vibrant blue eyes and upscale fur patterns many times, but there’s something about Pugsley that casts him as a more animated creature than what you usually see on your Instagram feed. Maybe it’s the heavy use of bokeh in his photos that gives this smoosh-faced cat the appearance that he’s popping out of the frame? Or perhaps it’s the way his bugged-out eyes play against his facial expressions? Either way, he’s a champion cat and should be celebrated as such.

Having now read every single one of the captions on New York City-based Pugsley’s Instagram, here’s the skinny on him.

What’s in a name?

If you hadn’t already guessed, Pugsley the Exotic Shorthair cat is named after the devious tyke Pugsley Addams from The Addams Family. The rationale is that “they’re both mischievous little pugs.”

The hobbiest

According to Pugsley’s official presence on the Internet, his interests include (but are certainly not limited to) scratching things, playing in the basement, world travel, inspecting the kitchen, and, yep, posing for Instagram.

A fancy feast

Our friend Pugsley is certainly on the endearingly portly side of things, so it’s no surprise that the fine-dining scene is right up his proverbial alley. His dishes of choice? Why, tuna and salmon, either fresh or smoked, but never cooked under any circumstances.

Internet lore also suggests that when no one’s looking, he’ll happily scarf down a chicken kabob.

Oh, and when he travels, Pugsley is partial to the menu at Il Ristorante da Armandino, which you’ll find on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy.

Pawing it forward

Despite seeming to live a life of slick luxury on his Instagram account, Pugsley is dedicated to helping out local New York City rescues like Kensington Kitties and Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Based on the location of those places in Brooklyn, I’m gonna confidently predict he’d go nuts for the tuna sandwich at the nearby Brancaccio’s Food Shop, which, in the tradition of over-the-top boasts, is hands down the best tuna sandwich in the city, to the point where I once biked nine-and-a-half miles to pick one up. But let’s get back to Pugsley, eh?

On the grind

Pugsley celebrated the holiday season heartily, but now that 2016 is firmly in stride, he’s all about getting back to the 9-to-5 grind. As you can see from this revelatory picture, he’s quite the diligent worker.

Seconds, please!

Now let’s return to the food scene. This gourmand kitty is never too proud to go back and revisit his favorite dishes via the time-honored feline trick of giving your paws a deep lick in a bid to unearth any leftover morsels. Keep it classy, Pugsley.

Oh, the horror

About three months ago, Pugsley had to undergo eye surgery. While the operation was a success and he came through the procedure OK, a greater ordeal was the pre-surgery period where he was forced to tame his feedings. As he quipped to Instagram, “I’m so hungry! Why won’t they feed me?”

Spa life

While most cats do not particularly like water, sometimes they’re forced to take a quick bath for various reasons. When it comes to Pugsley, though, a mere dip in the tub is not enough — instead, this cat is all about his spa sessions. Here he’s been captured swaddled in lush towels after a jaunt to the beach. Stay strong in the face of hardship, Pugsley, stay strong.
