Before You Get Started

You should keep a few things in mind when planning a party for your furry household member to ensure their safety and happiness. After all, the party is supposed to be for them! It won’t be a fun celebration if they don’t enjoy it or are put in danger. Here are a few things to consider:

Ensure Safety First

Ensure all your guests are inside the space where you’re hosting the party before letting your cat out of their carrier. Request that guests let you know when they want to exit so you can make sure your kitty won’t escape.

Also, ensure the festivities aren’t too loud. Think of it like a less energetic child’s party. Too much noise can stress out your pet, which is likely to result in an awful time for them overall. Keep the vibe fun but relaxed. Don’t play music, and ask kids to play outside if they feel like being loud or rowdy.

Think About Things From a Cat’s Perspective

You might be tempted to invite all your friends and family members and their kids to celebrate a milestone with your cat, but think of it from your cat’s point of view. Felines typically are not interested in hanging out with large groups, even if they will be the focus of everyone’s attention.

Cats also don’t typically enjoy loud environments or activities that overwhelm their senses. So, keep things intimate, and only invite the few people who know your kitty well. This will ensure that everyone, including your cat, has a good time and stays stress-free.

Manage Your Expectations

Your cat may not enjoy or appreciate the party you put together for them in the way you hope they will. They might show no interest in the festivities or try to run away and hide. If that is the case, try to enjoy the party yourself and let your cat do their thing. Don’t let whatever happens during the party get you down or dampen the occasion.

The 5 Party Ideas to Celebrate Your Cat

1. Make a Cake Fit for a Feline

What is a party without a cake? While your kitty can eat a tiny piece of cake meant for humans, it’s not good for them. So, consider incorporating a regular cake and one made just for your cat into the party festivities. Here is a basic recipe that you can make at home:

  • 1 can of tuna in water, drained (6 ounces)
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. shredded cheese
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 peeled cooked shrimp
  • Cooking spray

Thoroughly combine all the ingredients except the cooking spray together in a bowl. Then, coat a muffin tin with the cooking spray and fill each muffin hole with about 2 tablespoons of the cake mixture. Chop the shrimp into small pieces and sprinkle the pieces on the muffins. Bake the muffin cakes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. You can serve one to your kitty once it’s cooled.

2. Incorporate Fun Decorations

Although your cat won’t understand what the decorations at their party are all about, décor will help put humans in a celebratory mood. Unfortunately, your cat is likely to play with the decorations and could ruin them. So, consider making them yourself instead of spending money on them.

You can make ringlet streamers from colored construction paper to hang on the walls and cut out cardboard kitty-shaped toppers for the tables. If you feel like spending extra money, get helium balloons and let them float near the ceiling, letting the ribbons hang down so your cat can play with them (under supervision).

3. Set the Scene With Lighting

A calm setting will ensure that your cat enjoys the party and doesn’t feel so stressed that they need to run, hide, and avoid the celebration. A great way to keep the atmosphere calm and stress-free is to utilize candles or fairy lights instead of traditional lighting to brighten the party space.

This will allow everyone to see what’s happening while keeping the environment relaxed so nobody gets too excited, loud, or rambunctious.

4. Play Games

What’s a party without games? There should be fun things to do for your cat and humans at your feline’s party. Print or draw a large picture of a cat and use it to play “pin the tail on the kitty.” You can play “guess the cat’s weight,” and whoever guesses the closest wins a prize!

You can also have a cat cookie decorating contest or enjoy a game of musical chairs featuring songs about cats. The options are only limited to your imagination! You can buy your kitty a new interactive or puzzle toy for them to enjoy during the festivities, too.

5. Utilize Catnip

A great way to get your cat interested in their party is to entice them with catnip. Put a small amount of catnip inside the wrapping of their presents so they’ll be more inclined to rip open the paper and get to it. Cats opening their presents is usually fun and entertaining for humans to watch. Putting catnip around the room can encourage activity and exploration so your kitty doesn’t snooze in a corner.
