How Do We Keep the Cat Happy at Our New Year’s Party?

The holidays are prime party time for many households. Depending on the personality of your cat, this could either be the highlight of his year or a reason to poop on your favourite slippers.

Many cats lean toward becoming recluses when strangers walk in the door, so you should never force your kitties to be party animals. Make sure they have a safe place away from your guests, should they choose to be the poopers of the party. Speaking of which, be sure there is a litter box, food, and water in said place.

You guests should also be aware of the feline presence in the house. No one wants a stiletto in the paw, and we know what can happen when you break out the champagne and the ABBA remixes. If you have stupid friends like I do, make sure they know not to feed your cat any scraps or whipped vodka.

Finally, it’s easy to get distracted in the hustle, so be sure to check on your kitty throughout the evening. Maybe offer some treats or sweet caresses if he seems stressed out.

“New Year’s Eve” by Sarah Donner

You can party all night long
Rock it till the ball falls down
I won’t know what I missed
After all, I am fixed

I don’t need fireworks or sparks
Ryan Seacrest or Dick Clark
Wet meats and a water bowl
Is all I need to get it on

Keep your friends out of my hair
Their noise and hot pants make me scared
I’ll be happy in my room
Partying all by myself

And should I come to socialize
Be sure no one feeds me beer or pie
Alert the kids that I am here
Keep the path I walk on clear
