Arrival Story:
I always wanted a tortoiseshell...a perfect tortie. I had had several but there was this one in my head, that I pictured, and I knew one day she would come to me. We had a very feral visitor who we named Josephine, a beautiful tortie. We could touch her sometimes but that was it. She had kittens and we managed to tame them. One was a pretty tortie we named Marie. She was lovely , loving and a great barn cat. She did not want to live in the house and did not have house manners. We moved to a new place and when I realized she was pregnant I made a place in the basement for her to have her kittens. I wanted these kittens to be social and tame and I wanted to contain Marie and get her fixed. The kittens arrived and when I peeked into the box I was so delighted. I picked up a teeny tortie and looked at her face...Marybeth...my Marybeth...you have come!

Bio:
Marybeth is now 19 years of age. I tell her she is my little tiny kitten and she purrs. She has been my sweet friend for 19 years...always there. Always ready to purr and knead. Sleeping on my pillow. Sitting on the table watching me cook. She was a great hunter in her youth. Now she does go out and sit on the deck, in the sun. She loves visitors and if she likes you she will crawl all over you, if she really likes you she will bite you. Not too hard...just enough to say hello...pay attention...I am Marybeth. She is always interested in what is going on. She likes to find a new favorite place to sleep about every week.Sometimes funny places...in a basket or a bowl by the woodstove. When I started doing the cat vases ,Marybeth was one of the first designs. It was strange to walk into stores and see Marybeth there. She was listed as Marybeth and people would write to me and say they had a Marybeth and send me pictures of their cat with Marybeth. She became quite famous over the years and when I licensed the vase designs for production she and Clark were just everywhere. She became the quintessential tortoiseshell short hair

November1 -2009...The Day I crossed the bridge

I have been ill for awhile with a cancer tumor in my mouth. The vet said there was no cure, but it would not be painful and as long as I could eat and drink I would be able to deal with it. It did get quite large but I have always been a trooper and I kept on gobbling up my food. Mom and I treasured every day we had. We knew 21 would be the last birthday but how many cats get to live that long...really. Not so many. I was born in my Moms studio 21 years ago and she picked me up right away and said"marybeth, you have come, i am so happy you have finally come". She always called me her little tiny kitten and told me I had to stay with her and take care of her so i always did that. When I realized I was very sick I was so worried....i knew I had to leave. Mom kept telling me it was OK to leave and go to the bridge with my dog sibs. Jasper went in July this year and Cassie just a few weeks ago so my Mom and Dad have been through a lot.I really did not want to go and leave them. Finally Mom told me I could always be her every special guardian angel, forever. I could fly on my beautiful wings and watch over her wherever she goes. So, after days of kisses and pets and tears I slipped away in my sleep. I left my parents feeling peaceful...grateful we had so many wonderful years. Now I can fly free and keep tabs on them and watch over all my family...even Simon. I see you and Jacquelyn fighting over my basket by Mom's computer...you take turns now...gentle purrs, Marybeth

I am so grateful to be alive and to have born to the best mom in the world twenty years ago. My mom had saved a feral cat named Josephine, or rather was feeding her and made a box for her when she looked pregnant. When the kits were born my mom tamed them and kept one tortie and named her My Marie but Marie was always sort of feral barn cat...loving but not house cat material. When she got pregnant(my mom got her fixed right after)my mom put her in the basement where she could monitor this litter. When I was born my mom picked me up and cried all over me and said "Oh Marybeth, you have come to me..you are finally here" and i have been her special little tiny kitten ever since...(My mom really needs my supervision and I work with her on the computer every day, sitting next to her with my paw on her hand.) We watch TV in the evening or read and I snuggle her in bed...life is good..I am so grateful to be alive and healthy and have so many wonderpurr furrends.
