Likes: Playing race track ( I sit on the floor, and drag a string around me in a circle), Playing fetch with a paper ball, (in the winter) The warm spot in the floor where the steam pipe runs under.
Pet-Peeves: He hates whistling and blowing sounds. I can send him into a kitty frenzy with that sound
Favorite Toy: waded paper balls, ping pong balls, paper bags/Edit 3-1-05, Lately my white dress shirts for work! He LOVES them and will beat them up if he gets a chance!
Favorite Nap Spot: His Kitty tower, my fresh clean laundry, my office chair, under my desk at my feet, or in my lap
Favorite Food: Friskies, wet and dry
Skills: I taught him to do tricks on command, as I once aspired to train him for commercials. Unfortunately, they don't want one eyed cats, regardless of his personality
Dwells:

Arrival Story: He's a rescue and Hector's story is truly sad.
I answered an add in a news paper to look at some kittens in Oakland, Ca.
Upon arriving, I noticed all the kittens had bad eyes. The woman explained to me it was conjunctivitis ( and I bought it?!) She also explained to me she had found the kittens duct taped into a cardboard box, and had been kicked down a hill.
I wasn't going to take any of the kittens, but Hector climbed up my jeans, all the way up to my shoulders, and "MEWED" right in my face. From then on, it was pure love!
I took him home in a cat carrier, strapped to the back of my motorcycle ( I was quite skilled in carrying cargo, so no one need worry about my judgment).
I took pains to improve his health, and a week and a half after I had him home, his right eye swelled up and ruptured, the lenses popping out.
I rushed Hector to Emergency.
The Vet was acting very strangely to me, and wanted to know what had happened to him. I explained to him the story about the woman above. He explained to me that he had been a victim of Cosmetic Testing! ~THE HORROR!~
I explained to the Vet I would do ANYTHING to save his life, and the result was his right eye was removed surgically.
Hector's health improved immediately, and he's been the best cat ever!
Bio: Hector is mostly blind, he might have 1/4 sight out of his left eye, the aperture of his eye is inoperable.
He's a very intelligent kitty, but also very dependant because of his blindness. It's like he never grew past 1 year old.
In California, he had extremely short hair, almost bald in fact, but when we came to Oregon he grew enough hair to be called a shorthair.
He still plays like he did when he was young, and he's also very vocal. He calls me a lot when he wants me, and I think he also howls to use like echo-location.
I love him to bits!
( Photos #1 & 2, the look on his face is total LOOOOVE!)
I've Been On Catster Since:
My friends, Hector passed on around 7:30 p.m. tonight, I had to make the decision to put him down. He wouldn't eat despite my best efforts to entice him, he has been wasting away slowly the last year and rapidly over the last 3 days, his breathing was labored and when I got home today he wouldn't move from his spot in the window. I picked him up and gave him some love and attention but he wasn't into it. I took him to the kitchen and tried to feed him but he didn't want it, and he walked very stiffly back to his sunny spot in the window. I gave him more love and took last photos of him, he looked like he felt miserable. I couldn't stand to see him like that, so bony, breathing hard, he looked ready.
I held him in my arms and stroked his head with my fingers as he was administered the barbiturate to put him to sleep. He collapsed in 2 seconds and was gone in 5. The doctor left the room and I cradled him in my arms and I told him I love him.
I will bury him this week.
I love you Hector, you were full of personality and the best, most smart cat I ever had.
I have very sad news friends, Hector lately has been very ill and decrepit and his condition is worsening. He's thin, will barely eat, has trouble using the litter box [ #2 ] and he looks miserable. Lately I've had to do things for him like wipe him after he gets out of the box, and he has been vomiting on an empty stomach. I have been struggling with the thought to have him euthanize. Up until this last week he has had energy and life in him, and now I can see his body failing him, and I've been playing the watch and wait game. I don't want to put him down, but I can't stand to see him miserable too. I'm still waiting for signs that it is time... he still has enough energy to love, and I give him as much attention as I can.
