Leave a treat for Velvet (In Loving Memory)

Nicknames:
Velvie, Belly Flopper, Velly Belly, and her alter ego was Devil Cat

Likes:
String, treats

Pet-Peeves:
Being brushed - she hated it!

Favorite Toy:
String, and a "litte red" toy

Favorite Food:
She wasn't picky, but she would not eat "real" meat. It had to be cat food!

Skills:
She could sing!

Arrival Story:
I used to work for my vet and one of my co-workers brought Velvet and her litter mates in for us to help find them homes. When I went over to the cage there was always one kitten who meowed at me or jumped on my smock. Velvet picked me! Every time someone went over to look at the kittens, I thought silently, please don't take the one I want. It wasn't long after that when we brought Velvet home. She was born in April 1992 and was about 8 week old when we adopted her.

Bio:
Velvet was a very friendly "people" cat. She could be moody at times, thus earning the alter ego nickname of Devil Cat! Velvet had our other cats intimidated, for the most part. Jordan was the only one who didn't let her intimidate him. Despite Velvet's "role" as "intimidator" Serena idolized her. Velvet loved string and would carry and drag it around, jump on the back of the couch with it and play with it. Velvet was quite a lap cat and she loved to curl up with us at night, oftentimes flopping down right on or near our faces! Velvet loved to chew and eat plastic, like plastic grocery bags. We had to keep them in the pantry or behind closed doors or she would find them and chew holes in them! Velvet battled hyperthyroidism for many months and eventually developed chronic kidney failure. She had already lost quite a bit of weight and was just too weak to be able to fight this horrible disease. On January 31, 2006, we had to help not only Velvet (13) but also Jewel (who, too, was suffering from hyperthyroidism and declining in health) to the Rainbow Bridge. It was extremely difficult to lose both of them, and we never thought we'd have to let them both go on the same day. Both were amazing kitties and we dearly miss them each and every day.
