Arrival Story:
Beautiful Pan was adopted by my parents, along with a "sister" kitty (not related), Gretchen, in 1993. Apparently Pan and her litter mates were about to be sealed into a wall in a house that was being under construction when they were discovered. They went to the Nike Cat Rescue Organization (not affiliated with the shoe company), where they were in foster care. The wonderful woman who was fostering the kittens had found a home for all of the kittens except Pan and Gretchen, another kitten separate from the litter that the foster mother had taken in. The foster mother wanted both kittens to go to the same home, so my parents adopted both Pan and Gretchen. Pan's formal name is Pansy; she and her litter mates were named for different flowers. Over the years, Pansy became shortened to Pan, Panner, and a whole other array of nicknames. To me she has always been Sweet Pea.

In Loving Memory of Our Pan

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A Poem for Pan

Here is a poem that Pan's Dad wanted to display on her page, for it fits her perfectly:

FOR PAN

A linen shroud falling,
So the mist descends
Enveloping all.
And you are gone.
Beyond sense and apperception
Or grief's ability to recall.

We cannot call you home.

Your eye knew the jungle's secret.
Your leap a leopard's grace,
Adorning morning's sunlight on a quiet window sill,
Peacefully.
Without guile or selfish motive,
You shared a love unique.

Where will we find it now?

Wind moving in the shadows,
A breeze and nothing more.
I still see you at the limit of my vision,
Irrecoverable.
Gentle soul,
Beautiful creature.

The only sorrow you ever gave us,
Was when you went away.
