How To Make Me Show Up

Mom noticed, that if she calls out to me, I don't come if I'm sleeping or suspicious about what she wants. But today, she noticed, that if she brings out the Pledge furniture polish I magically show up, no matter what.
Today, I was sound asleep and under heavy blankets when she just sprayed a little of it on a table and was positive that I wouldn't notice. Can't fool me! She had barely turned around when there I was on the table, rolling around on it. With a sleepy face, I might add as I was sound asleep when I caught on to what she was doing.
So then she thought, that if ever she really needed me to come, all she had to do was take out the Pledge.
With Squirrel, all Mom has to do is tap the picture window and call her name. She comes running to look outside to see usually a bird, or the neighbour's black cat. Squirrel will also usually come for treats when Mom shakes the Tender Vitals bag. I won't.

Grass

When you watch it, grass doesn't grow.
I finally got Mom to start a batch of kitty grass for me. I have been watching it very closely and it isn't growing. Mom tried to tell me that it won't grow if I watch it. Something about a pot and boiling. I don't understand. All I know is I want my kitty grass!!!!
I'm still flexing my bully muscles and chasing Squirrel around the house in the morning.
We are spending a lot of time one the back of the couch in the living room, in the picture window, in the sun. We can feel spring coming. And there are a few birds coming to our feeder.
Life is grand.

I am not acting like my usual self.

For 2 days in a row, I have been the one chasing Squirrel and making her squeal! Mom couldn't believe it when she saw who was being the bully this time. Ha, ha! Oh, and to show even more courage, I did this while the dogs were in the house!
I am Lucky, hear me ROAR!

I learned a new trick.

I learned a new trick just in time for the New Year.
Squirrel already learned this one, but I started doing it now. I know how to turn on Mom's bedside lamp and try and "encourage" her to get up and give us our morning treat! I've done it 3 times in the last 4 mornings. So it isn't a fluke. I know what I am doing and the effect it has on Mom. Instead of getting angry with me, Mom is proud of me. We have a cool Mom! don't we?

I surprised Mom yet again!

Last night I came to bed with Mom to get some attention while she reads. This is kind of getting to be normal. But I usually leave after about 20 minutes. What was different this time, is when she got up in the middle of the night to pee, I was still there! And later, when she woke up in the morning, I was still there! I spent the whole night right by her pillow. At that point, I went for breakfast and Squirrel came in to get her time with Mom before Mom actually got out of bed.
Mom is delighted to see that even now, 5 1/2 years later, I am still getting more tame. She says that she is sure that I will become a cuddly cat as I get older. Right now, if I am not napping, I always follow Mom to the bathroom and sit right on the counter while Mom does her business. I am right at eye level with her and she pets me. When she takes a bath, I sit on the toilet lid and keep her company. When she steps out onto the bath mat, I jump down and roll around at her feet and she pets me. I guess I am turning into a cuddle bunny.

What about my chair?

Mom is renovating MY room!
The idea was to remove the 30 year old carpet and get rid of junk. Unfortunately, junk might mean MY chair! Anyhow, she wanted to show these pictures. I am still not too sure how I feel about the possibility of my chair not being there anymore. Mom says, she might just clean it up and let me keep it. What do you all think? Keep the chair or not?

A Big Step for a Feral Cat

Today was a big day for me. As some of you know I am the most feral of us two kitties (Squirrel and I). Today, Mom picked me up and carried me all the way down to the basement and put me out into the cat run. I was tense, but I did not panic! Up until now, she has only been able to pick me up for a short while before I start to struggle. At that point, she always gently puts me down. So Mom was very pleased with me. And nothing bad happened to me! It was kind of fun to go down those stairs from way up high in Mom's arms. She has to hold me kind of away from her. If she tries to hold me close, I get nervous. I enjoyed the view but kept secretly praying that she wouldn't trip!!! She didn't and I am now out in the cat run with my sister Squirrel.

I am all rested up ...

All of us woke up this morning feeling fine. Mom finally got a full night of sleep as did we. So, while Mom was watching her morning TV program, I dug out one of my old toy mice and put on a show. I was practising for the next time I see a mouse. I was throwing it up high in the air and working it over real good. I made Mom laugh. Squirrel said to me, "Where are those moves when we are dealing with real mice?" I said, "Never you mind." Later, we got to sit in the sunny window and watch plenty of birds. It is a fine day at our place.

Another Mouse

‘Twas the night after Easter
And all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring,
Except for a MOUSE!

Yep, we did it again! Brought Mommy a mouse. It was a small one, but it was slippery. We worked hard for a long time while Mom slept. When we were ready to let her play with it, we knocked over a big metal, folded up camp cot. That made a big boom. So, Mom got up to see what was going on and saw us run out of the spare bedroom. She went in and saw what we had knocked over and said, “Well at least you guys are alright!” Then she went to the bathroom. She didn’t even see the mouse we worked so hard to bring her. So, we brought it into her bedroom for her. When she came back to bed she was about to shut off the light when she saw us both looking at something in her closet. She came to see what was going on and finally spotted our mouse! She put on shoes, went and got a little mouse sized box and came to play mouse with us. The little mouse went behind all kinds of junk, so Mom was busy moving stuff out of the way, including us. Mom put down the box and expected she would have to find a way to guide the mouse into it, but the mouse was smart and went right in by itself. Then Mom went outside in her nightgown and released the mouse in the yard. At 4am, she didn’t think the neighbors would see her, plus it was dark outside. Then she came back in and gave us some Fancy Feast. She tried to go back to sleep but we were too excited and wouldn’t let her. So, she got up and gave us more Fancy Feast at 7:30am.

Easter Adventure

I just had a bit of an accident! Mom was in the livingroom and on the computer. Squirrel was there too, watching birds out the window. Mom thought I was sleeping, but ....
All of a sudden Mom and Squirrel heard a big noise from the bedroom. They came to see as I slinked out of there. I had jumped at the lace on the edge of the window shutter, got hooked, pulled down the shutter, took a bunch of stuff with me as I fell to the floor in an awkward way. Mom says it didn't sound like I landed on all four paws.
Now here is a fine example of how a semi-feral cat gets better. By the time Mom straightened out my mess, I was waiting in the hallway for reassuring pets. I would have been in hiding if that had happened a few years ago.
I did rip up the lace edge on the shutter. But not on purpose. This all happened because I thought I saw the Easter Bunny in the back yard through the bedroom window. I got kind of excited.
