Sheba brand cat food comes in several different flavors and a couple of different texture types, such as pâté and meat cuts. The company also sells stick treats for nourishment and entertainment. Sheba does not produce any dry food products, but their wet food options pair well with any type of dry food that you might want to include in your cat’s diet. Here is everything you need to know about the Sheba line of wet cat food.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good and Bad)

Sheba brand cat food has multiple different flavors, but each is made with real meat or fish. Some ingredients are common among most flavors, though, so focusing on them will give you an idea of what to expect from any of the flavors that you might choose for your cat.

    Chicken Broth

Chicken broth isn’t a whole food that will provide your cat with the essential nutrients that they need to thrive, but it does contain vitamins and minerals, and more importantly, it is hydrating. A staff veterinarian at the San Francisco ASPCA recommends adding chicken broth to water and offering it to dehydrated cats. So, you can be sure that your cat is staying hydrated when eating any of the Sheba cat food varieties.

    Real Chicken

Chicken is an excellent source of protein, and as obligate carnivores, cats require plenty of it. Chicken meat is included in most Sheba recipes, including the whitefish and tuna meal options. Some meals also include chicken liver for extra protein and flavor. Chicken liver is a great source of vital nutrients, including vitamins A and C, as well as calcium and iron.

    Meat By-Products

Every Sheba cat food recipes include some meat by-products, but by-products are never listed as the first ingredient. Many experts agree that animal by-products can be a healthy part of a cat’s diet. Made up of organ meats, entrails, and sometimes even bones, animal by-products contain tons of nutrition.

However, not everyone feels that by-products are safe because there is no real way of knowing exactly what is going into them. Animal by-products are generally thought to be safe, but there is no reason to feed it to your cat if you are not comfortable doing so.

While MARS has announced recalls for several of its cat food brands in the past, there has never been a Sheba cat food recall. This means that the brand has a solid history of producing quality foods that aren’t compromised. However, just because they have a good track record doesn’t mean that a recall won’t be announced in the future, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for recalls.

    1. Hi Sheba,
I have two very picky eaters. Sheba, after two and a half years of failure, pate is the only food one of my babies will eat: The entire half. Yes, they are difficult to open. Worth the struggle for a very Happy KITTY KAT.
      THANKS

    2. I agree with Susan Neal – the packages are way to hard to open. Just cut my finger for the unteenth time. I am going to try and find some other food that she likes, these packages are awful.

      1. Hi Shirley, thank you for your comment. While we’re not the manufacturers and therefore unable to take direct action on your feedback, we truly appreciate you taking the time to read our content and share your experience and perspective.

        1. I've found that the easiest way for me to open, is to grasp the provided pull tab with a paper towel. That has made a great improvement and I now open the individual containers with this improved grip.

    3. There needs to be a review on the packaging as it is extremely hard to open, and by the time you get it opened you have a mess everywhere! The pull tabs are too short. Needs a complete redo on its package!
I am not going to purchase any longer, back to pull top cans.

      1. Hi, Susan Neal, thanks for your comment. We are not the manufacturers, so we can not take any actionable action on your feedback. We do appreciate you taking the time to read us and to share your experience and opinion.

    4. We have been feeding our cat Sheba Cuts in gravy for years. Lately, it is obvious that they are watered down. It used to come out in a compact container shape, but now it splashes out in a wet mess. Is this generally known?

      1. Hi Bill, thanks for reading us, manufacturers do sometimes change their formulas. Please note that we are an independent company. We suggest you reach out directly to Sheba to ask if this has been the case.

    5. My 18 year old Siamese has been diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. She loves Sheba perfect portions and the chicken fillets trays in gravy but most Sheba wet cat food is high in protein which she needs to now avoid. What is your view on this please?
      Thank you.
      Doriana

      1. Hi Doriana, sorry to hear about your cat. What you say is correct, protein restriction is part of the management plan for KCD in cats. If you would like to understand a bit more about the reasons for it and important dietary considerations going forward, please do not hesitate to book a 1:1 phone call with a vet at www.pangovet.com. They would be happy to guide you and answer your quotations and concerns.
