Sheba cat food has been on the market for years and has garnered quite the following of fans. This is one of the highest quality options with a budget price on the market. Made with real meat and luscious gravy, this food delivers quality protein and irresistible flavor that most cats seem to love. Most recipes do include animal by-products, and some have artificial colors in them. But overall, each formula is a healthy option for most cats that are in good health.

The convenient packaging is a big selling point because the food never has to be separated before serving. Each container has a complete serving of food, nothing more and nothing less. There won’t be any leftovers to deal with, which can help save money on food because no forgotten cans of food will get lost in the refrigerator. However, the peel-away tops can sometimes come loose and allow air and bugs to get into the food. Special care should be taken when storing the food to make sure that heavy items don’t get placed on top of the containers.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good and Bad)

Sheba brand cat food has multiple different flavors, but each is made with real meat or fish. Some ingredients are common among most flavors, though, so focusing on them will give you an idea of what to expect from any of the flavors that you might choose for your cat.

Chicken Broth

Chicken broth isn’t a whole food that will provide your cat with the essential nutrients that they need to thrive, but it does contain vitamins and minerals, and more importantly, it is hydrating. A staff veterinarian at the San Francisco ASPCA recommends adding chicken broth to water and offering it to dehydrated cats. So, you can be sure that your cat is staying hydrated when eating any of the Sheba cat food varieties.

Real Chicken

Chicken is an excellent source of protein, and as obligate carnivores, cats require plenty of it. Chicken meat is included in most Sheba recipes, including the whitefish and tuna meal options. Some meals also include chicken liver for extra protein and flavor. Chicken liver is a great source of vital nutrients, including vitamins A and C, as well as calcium and iron.

Meat By-Products

Every Sheba cat food recipes include some meat by-products, but by-products are never listed as the first ingredient. Many experts agree that animal by-products can be a healthy part of a cat’s diet. Made up of organ meats, entrails, and sometimes even bones, animal by-products contain tons of nutrition.

However, not everyone feels that by-products are safe because there is no real way of knowing exactly what is going into them. Animal by-products are generally thought to be safe, but there is no reason to feed it to your cat if you are not comfortable doing so.

While MARS has announced recalls for several of its cat food brands in the past, there has never been a Sheba cat food recall. This means that the brand has a solid history of producing quality foods that aren’t compromised. However, just because they have a good track record doesn’t mean that a recall won’t be announced in the future, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for recalls.
