What Kind of Cat Is Hecker? Famous Cat Breeds Revealed

Catster_What Kind of Cat is Hecker

Whether you’re a fan of the Beluga Cinematic Universe or the Friday Night Funkin’ game, you’ve probably come across Hecker. The cat regularly joins another cat, Beluga, on Discord and in YouTube videos. Hecker is a computer hacker and Beluga’s best friend. The profile picture for Hecker is a cartoon cat, but even in the animated version, you can tell that the cat looks a little different than a domesticated house cat.

So, what kind of cat is Hecker? While we don’t think Hecker would like us to know the answer, he can’t keep everything a secret. Hecker is a caracal cat! Many people may not be familiar with this exotic-looking wild cat. We don’t encourage keeping wild cats as pets, but some people keep caracals. If you’re interested in this cat, check the laws in your state to make sure it’s legal to own one where you live. Many state laws ban or restrict ownership of wild cats in the United States. Let’s find out more about this interesting breed.

Caracal Habitat

The caracal cat is a medium-sized wild cat. They are also known as the desert lynx, Persian lynx, and the gazelle cat. The cats are native to Africa and live in dry woodlands of the sub-Saharan region. They can also be found in Central, South, and West Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Middle East. They like scrublands and arid habitats. They’re known to live in forests sometimes, though not rainforests. This cat has adapted to harsh desert environments and dry mountains.

Caracal Appearance

The caracal’s name comes from the Turkish word, “karakulak,” which means “black ear.” They have sleek bodies with dense, velvety, reddish-gold coats. The feature that inspired their name is a long black tuft protruding from the top of each ear, which is just under 2 inches long. The reason that the tufts exist is not precisely known, but it’s theorized that they work to swipe away insects, protect the cat’s eyes from the sun, or communicate with other caracals.

A caracal’s face is full of beautiful, unique features that set them apart from other wild cats. Their eyes are outlined in white and rimmed with black. Their striking eyes can be gold, copper, or green. They have prominent black eyebrows and muzzle markings that make them look like they’ve applied makeup. They are truly beautiful cats, and their distinct facial features can be seen in Hecker’s animated profile photo.

The caracal is the largest among Africa’s small cats. Male caracals are larger than females. Their size ranges from 20 to 40 pounds, and they stand 20 inches high at the shoulder. They have powerful, strong bodies and long legs. Their hind legs are longer than their front legs and help the cats jump straight up into the air, catching birds in mid-flight. Their tails are bobbed but muscular. They’re used as rudders to guide the cats as they jump.

The cats can live for up to 12 years in the wild and even longer in captivity with proper care.

Caracal Diet

Caracals are mostly active at night when they do their hunting. These carnivorous cats will eat anything they can catch but prefer small mammals. They eat rodents, rabbits, snakes, lizards, and birds. They have been known to go after livestock and eat the occasional sheep or goat.

Caracals aren’t hesitant to take down prey larger than themselves. They will hunt ostriches and antelope if necessary. If these cats are hungry, they’ll eat whatever they can catch.

Five Facts About the Caracal

  • The caracal is sometimes kept as a pet today, but the cat is not domesticated. They don’t like to be enclosed and can become destructive and aggressive without enough space to roam.
  • In ancient Egypt, the caracals were revered and treated as prized possessions. They wore jeweled collars and were often given as gifts to esteemed guests.
  • Caracals can jump 10 feet straight into the air to catch prey.
  • These cats are solitary animals that spend most of their time alone. They will pair up during breeding season but return afterward to living a single life. They will also aggressively defend their territory against other animals.
  • Caracal kittens can eat meat by the time they are 4 weeks old. They stay with their mothers until they are 10 months old.

Final Thoughts

The Beluga character, Hecker, is a caracal cat. His profile photo looks like an exotic cat, and now we know why! Caracals are wild African cats that are incredibly beautiful. These cats are sometimes kept as pets, though we don’t encourage this practice. If you’re interested in acquiring a caracal cat, check the laws in your area first regarding legality. They are banned and restricted in several states.

Now you know a little more about Hecker’s breed. We hope that this helps you enjoy the character even more!
