How to Choose the Purr-fect “A Name”

Here are some tips for choosing the perfect name that starts with the letter A.

Use Your Cat as Inspiration

One of the best ways to ensure you’ve chosen the perfect name for your kitty is to use them as inspiration. Let your pet’s personality and appearance act as a guide in selecting the right name.

Is their coat white? Maybe consider something like Alabaster. Almond would be cute if their fur is beige. Ash is a great option for black cats!

Does your cat spend a lot of time outside? Acorn or Azure are adorable nature-inspired options for cats that love the outdoors.

What is their personality like? Acrobat or Adventurer are great A names for playful, chaotic kitties. Cats that love to eat could easily adopt a food name that starts with A, like Avocado or Anchovy.

Draw Inspiration From Your Interests

Another cute way to find the perfect name is to consider your own personality traits and likes.

If you’re super into anime, for example, you might consider a name like Ackerman after the characters in Attack on Titan. If you’re a Harry Potter fanatic, maybe Albus, Alastor, or Aragog.

Take It for a Test Drive

Just like you wouldn’t buy a car without taking it for a test drive first, you shouldn’t settle on your kitties forever name until you’ve taken it for a spin. Say it out loud. Does it roll off the tongue, or do you stumble over some of the syllables? Can you see yourself calling that name out into your yard for your cat to come in, or will you feel embarrassed if the neighbors hear you? Remember, your cat’s name will inevitably need to be told to your veterinary clinic, so make sure it’s not something too risqué or embarrassing.

Give Yourself Time

Choosing a name for your kitty is important, which is why it isn’t something you should rush into. Your kitty won’t know the difference between “Hey, you!” and the name you ultimately settle on, so give yourself time to find the perfect name before making anything official.

Final Thoughts

We know that choosing the perfect name can feel impossible when the possibilities are quite literally endless. Still, we hope our list of the most popular names that start with A has at least provided you with some inspiration. Remember, you don’t need to have a name selected the day your kitty comes home with you. Take some time to truly get to know your new pet before deciding on the name they’ll have for the rest of their lives.
