Many feline furnishings have a vibe that's deliberately mid-century modern or downright postmodern. What's a cat lover with traditional tastes to do? Check out Five Pet Place, that's what.

The online catalog offers a trove of timeless treasures that are ready for their closeup in Traditional Home magazine. No effort has been spared to create functional feline furnishings that are long on style as well as substance, many trimmed out in classically correct crown moulding. They include a horizontal scratching pad as well as a vertical post; a window bed that sports a Crypton fabric-covered cushion plus optional heater (for bird-watching on cold winter mornings); and a super swanky Litter Cabinet. Each design is available in three finishes: walnut, white, or honey.

It's all the brainchild of Michael Ostrofsky, a Californian Virgo with a beautiful traditional home, who was motivated to start Five Pet Place by his own kitty clowder (their names are Napa, Sabrina, Lucy, Sparky and Paint). Product specifications were established by monitoring the fivesome's daily activities, to ensure that each offering in the catalog combines "proven performance for cats and pleasing aesthetics for the people who love them." Never mind the Good Housekeeping seal; Five Pet Place products are Napa-, Sabrina-, Lucy-, Sparky-, and/or Paint- approved!

They're also produced in the United States using as many domestically produced components as possible. "I'm not having my products made in places where people eat cats," Ostrofsky says. "You can't say you care about them if you do."
