Unique Carpet Shampoo Review

Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Unique Pet Care a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

While Unique Camping + Marine may not be a household name in the world of pet care, don’t be too quick to discount them. Much of its line-up focuses on RV and marine wastewater tank care, but they have a sister company, known as Unique Pet Care, with a line of pet products that rival some of the most popular brands on the market. If your kitty is a known mess-maker or litter box misser, you need the highest quality cleaning supplies to tackle stubborn smells and stains.

Read on to learn more about Unique’s two most popular pet-related products, their Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator Spray and their Carpet Shampoo.

    Unique Pet Care Products Reviewed

Who Makes Unique Pet Care Products, and Where Are They Produced?

Unique is a United States-based business with humble beginnings in the late 80s. A chemical salesman named Don Stewart created a carpet cleaner recipe that could remove odors and stains better than the leading brands at the time. The best part was that his cleaner didn’t contain a nasty list of chemicals like the others on the market. While green products weren’t in high demand in the 80s, Don still believed so much in his recipe that he set off in his RV to spread the word about his product to retailers nationwide.

As his business expanded across the country, so did his line-up of products. The company soon created lines of RV, marine, septic, drain, and, of course, pet cleaners. They have seven cleaners designed for pet owners, including the two we’re focusing on today: the Odor + Stain Eliminator Spray and the Carpet Shampoo.

Who Are These Products Best Suited For?

The company’s pet line-up is suited for cat and dog owners looking to remove pet-related stains and odors. The ideal Unique Pet Care customer cares not only about the environment but they are also mindful about the chemicals they’re introducing into their homes. According to the American Lung Association, some household cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOC) that can contribute to respiratory issues like asthma and even cause headaches.1 Unique’s natural carpet shampoo and odor and stain eliminator spray are safe to use in households with folks with sensitive respiratory systems.

Who Might Do Better With a Different Brand?

Folks who keep small critters, such as birds, guinea pigs, rats, or reptiles, would probably prefer a different cleaner to deal with their pet’s messes.

Discussion of Unique Camping + Marine’s Product

    Versatility

The best thing about the company’s two leading pet care products is their versatility.

The Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator spray is formulated to eliminate pet urine completely. Superficial clean jobs will just not do when you’re contending with cat urine. This spray is so versatile that it can also remove odors and stains from pet-related messes, including vomit, feces, and urine. You can use it as a deodorizer for your pet beds, cat towers, and litter boxes.

The Carpet Shampoo is designed for use in all leading carpet cleaners, though it can also be diluted and used to spot clean. The formula is meant to remove stains and odors originating from pet urine. It can be used not only on carpets but also on vehicle interiors, upholstery, pet bedding, and more.

    Effectiveness

Completely removing the scent of urine is important as cats will continue to eliminate spots where they can smell their previous messes. Poorly cleaned cat urine messes will result in further accidents in that area, as your kitty can pick up on the faintest odor even if you can’t smell it.

Both the Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator Spray and Carpet Shampoo are designed to remove stains and odors, new and old. The Carpet Shampoo is particularly useful for messes on carpets as it can take away odors that have seeped right down to the subfloor.

    Transparency

Unique Camping + Marine and their sister company, Unique Pet Care, have a very interesting transparency policy that we highly respect. Creating natural and safe products has always been a main tenet of the company, so it’s not surprising that their Formulated With Trust program exists in the first place. There are some companies out there that slap on labels like “Non-Toxic” and “Pet-Safe” on their products without any detailed information to back up their claims. The Formulated With Trust program focuses on providing consumers with complete transparency regarding their ingredients.

You can read a detailed list of the ingredients used in Unique Camping + Marine’s products on their website here. The page explains what each ingredient is, why it’s present in the formula, and how it works.

For example, the Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator contains sodium methyl 2-sulfolaurate and disodium 2-sulfolaurate. These are cleaning agents and surfactants that allow for better stain penetration and odor control. The Carpet Shampoo ingredient list names “C9”, which is another cleaning agent and surfactant. It is readily biodegradable and listed in the CleanGredients database of chemicals that have been pre-approved by the EPA to be a safer choice.

    Poor Internet Presence

Unique Camping + Marine has an easy-to-navigate and fully operational website. Their sister company, Unique Pet Care, appears to have dropped the ball with their website maintenance. You can find a lot of information about their pet care products from the Unique Camping + Marine website, but their dedicated pet care product website leaves a lot to be desired. Thankfully, you can find their pet-centric products on Amazon and get them shipped to you faster and for free if you have Amazon Prime.

Reviews of the 2 Best Unique Pet Care Products

    1. Unique Pet Care Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator – Our Favorite

    Odor Spray

The Unique Pet Care Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator is a handy spray designed to tackle all sorts of pet messes. Its unique formulation will not only get rid of stains but completely eliminate odors, too. It can be used on new messes or even old, set-in ones. Its powerful formula will discourage unwanted marking and re-marking. The spray can be used on stains and odors from urine, feces, blood, and vomit, but it is also useful for deodorizing places where your cats spend much of their time, including their beds and cat towers.

The sprayer does leave a little to be desired, however. Additionally, the formula has a scent to it, which may be irritating to scent-sensitive folks (though we’d argue that any smell is better than urine).

    Pros
    Cons
    • Formula is scented
    • Sprayed doesn’t always work as desired

    2. Unique Pet Care Carpet Shampoo

    Carpet Shampoo

The Unique Pet Care Carpet Shampoo is a natural carpet cleaner. Its powerful bacteria and enzyme formula is designed specifically to tackle strong ammonia-related odors like cat urine. It can be used in any carpet cleaning machine; however, it can also be diluted using a 1:5 ratio of formula to water. The formula is very strong as it can penetrate down into your subflooring to remove set-in odors and stains. It doesn’t have a strong smell itself, which is great for scent-sensitive people, though some users may wish the formula was scented. It also does not leave a residue like some carpet cleaners on the market.

    Pros
    • Doesn’t leave a residue
    • Can be used in any carpet cleaner
    • Can be used as a spot cleaner
    • Effectively removes set-in stains and odors
    Cons
    • Unscented

    What Other Users Are Saying

Users of the Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator and the Carpet Shampoo have left reviews on both the official website for the product as well as Amazon. As expected, the reviews for both products on the Unique website are glowing. Many manufacturers only allow for positive reviews to be posted publicly on their sites for obvious reasons, but they cannot control the reviews posted on marketplaces like Amazon.

    • Official Unique Camping + Marine Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator – “…worked wonders when our cat decided to miss the litter box…no smell.”
    • Official Unique Camping + Marine Pet Shampoo – “…my go-to carpet cleaner for over 10 years.”
    • Amazon – As intelligent consumers, we always double-check product effectiveness by reading Amazon reviews from real buyers. Check out the reviews for the Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator here and the Carpet Shampoo here.

    Conclusion

The Pet Odor and Stain Eliminator and Carpet Shampoo are two unique natural products you’ll want in your cleaning supply arsenal if your cats are known mess-makers. These cleaning supplies are highly effective for removing cat stains and odors, which is what you’ll want when tackling something like cat urine. The less your kitty can smell their previous messes, the less likely it is that they’ll make a mess there again. Additionally, the company’s commitment to using safe ingredients and its policy regarding ingredient transparency is practically unheard of in the industry, earning them two big thumbs up from us here at Catster.
