Do Cats Like Head Massages? The Interesting Answer

Share

Felines are intriguing animals that have myriad ways that they like to interact with us humans. While all cats are different, many pet cats love head massages.

Not only do they enjoy the physical interaction and motion of the massage, but they can also get many health benefits from massages. They especially enjoy being rubbed behind the ears and around the chin, though some cats enjoy a scratch on the top of the head too.

Do Cats Like Head Massages?

Most cats like affection from their owners. It lets them know that they’re loved, and it makes them feel safe. Head massages, as well as body massages, can help relieve stress while improving blood circulation and generally lifting your cat’s mood.

However, it is worth remembering that cats can become overstimulated. Yours may have enough of having their head massaged after a few minutes, or they may enjoy it for the full length of the movie you’re watching.

Generally, when your cat has had enough, they will move their head away or leave your lap. Some cats, however, react to overstimulation by batting, scratching, or biting your hand, generally after they have given you a heads-up by changing their body language.

Always be gentle when massaging your cat’s head or other areas of their body, using only fingertips and applying a small amount of pressure, following your cat’s cues into what they prefer and what they don’t.

Do Cats Like to Be Kissed?

In truth, cats don’t get much from a kiss, unless they have been getting kisses since they were kittens and recognize it as you paying them attention and showing love. If a cat isn’t used to receiving kisses and they don’t know you, they might see it as an odd behavior and show signs of caution or anxiety if you lean in to kiss their head.

Why Do Cats Roll on Their Backs When They See You?

Sometimes, your cat might roll on their back when they see you. A cat will only do this if they trust you deeply, and it is a sign of affection and trust. It may also be a sign that they want their tummy rubbed or that they are ready to play.

Why Do Cats Raise Their Bums When You Pet Them?

The most likely reason that a cat raises their bum when you pet them is that they are enjoying the experience and they want you to pay more attention to the area. It may also be an instinctive reaction, as some cats will raise their butts when they are in heat.

Should I Headbutt My Cat?

Cats headbutt as a sign of affection and to mark you as one of their own. It is a form of social bonding. If your cat headbutts you, it is fine to do it back, and you can try initiating the headbutt yourself. Take it slowly, and your cat should view it as a sign of affection that they will appreciate.

Do Cats Like Being Talked To?

Cats don’t understand what people are saying to them, but studies suggest that they still like being talked to. They pay attention to the voice, and studies show that cats prefer a soft and gentle voice from their owner.

Conclusion

Cats are very expressive animals, and they appreciate attention and affection from their owner. They especially like massages, including body massages, and many also enjoy having different areas of the head massaged, though all felines are different. Cats also like being talked to, and if your kitty trusts you, they may also appreciate a slow, gentle headbutt that shows your affection.
