Want to Adopt? There's an App for Cats

If you seek a new feline friend but are too busy to visit a shelter, let your smartphone help you.

Are you a busy person, always on the go, cell phone seemingly glued to your hand? Do you rely on your smartphone for things such as directions, your personal schedule, and finding a place to grab dinner? Are you interested in adopting a cat because a kitty suits your busy lifestyle better? Don't have time to go to a shelter?

Well, wait no more -- because there's an app for that.

The Cat Adoption Team app (also called the CAT app) was created by a feline-only shelter of the same name in Sherwood, OR. The organization helps special needs kitties find permanent homes while offering low-cost spaying, neutering, and medical services to cat owners who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

Available for Android phones (sorry iPhone users!), the app lets you peruse adoptable kitties, use an adoption match tool, receive notifications, and, well, play games. (It is a phone app, after all.)

CAT is said to be the only open-source software of its kind available for free. The Simply Cats shelter in Boise, Idaho, has adopted the CAT platform to derive its own app to help cats and humans find each other.

The Simply Cats app makes finding a kitty easy.

The Simply Cats app includes the following features:

+ Cat of the Day, which downloads a new cat bio and photo daily

+ Match-9-Lives, a memory puzzle that highlights adoptable animals from the shelter

+ ASPCA's Meet Your Match Survey, connecting adopters with the pets that best suit their lifestyle

+ Support for Spanish speaking adopters

+ Advanced Pet Search tool with automatic notification for matching cats

+ Interactive logo, including a $20 adoption discount coupon for double-clicking

+ Cat Videos created by the shelter

+ Shelter open hours

Looking for a feline friend? What are you waiting for? Download the app.
