Let's Rock and Roll

We were sure rocking and rolling yesterday around 1 PM but all is safe and sound with minimal damage for a 5.8 earthquake. We live about 30-40 minutes north and east from the epicenter and about 20-30 miles north dn east from the nuclear plant close to the epicenter.

Around 12:15 Maumi came home from school to pick up more materials for her classroom. When she tried to leave a bit after 12:30, I sensed something a foot so backed up to the door trying to keep her from going, when suddenly Pretty Girl and Baby dashed upstairs. It was my job to keep Maumi safe but she didn't listen. She told me 'don't worry Bastet, girls, Maumi will be back in a few hours." Then she closed the door, got in her car and drove back to school. I was frantic to see Maumi go as I watched her through the side windows by the door.

Maumi must have just gottend to school when it began. The noise was terrible, the shaking starting and I hid under the twin bed in my kitten room. I heard things falling in the closets, that is where Pretty Girl was hiding. She dashed out and I let her lay by me. We heard a terrible crash in the garage. I heard the medicine cabinets in the bathrooms upstairs creak open. Pretty Girl and I just hoped Maumi was safe.

Maumi came home around 2:30 and was pretty calm but Baby, Pretty Girl and I were still shaken. We could still feel shaking going on and weren't sure we were safe.

When Maumi checked the house, she found that Dad's stack of old bowling balls in the boxes had toppled to the floor, the car jack had rolled from the walls, and brooms, rakes, hoes, all hanging lawn equipment had fallen. There were some pictures and candle holders on the wall that had fallen, and some boxes in the closets on the floor. Everything that was still hanging on the walls not toggled to the walls, was crooked.

Maumi is off from school today and students will return from summer break tomorrow. But she has to take Dad to the doctor. During the earthquake, Dad was rushing to get somewhere safe and did something to his right knee and doesn't remember what what he did. He can't drive a car, bend it, and the pain is excrutiating to walk. He is using Maumi's cane from her injury to walk.

We were very fortunate that there is no serious damage or injury. I remain on alert because of the aftershocks. The biggest one last night aroudn 8:00 PM a little of 4.0. Maumi and Dad were talking to nighbors outside and felt that. We are fine and hope everyone else is as well.

'Coons' on the Loose

What an experience I had last evening, one Maumi wished she was able to photograph, but it was too dark. For the first time in my life, I saw a racoon. Not one, but two. Maumi, Dad and I were lounging on the deck just before dark and I spied them sneaking verrryy stealthily up one of our woodland paths. I sat like a lion and did my little 'hum' which alerted Maumi that something was up. She asked Dad what was behind her in the yard. Dad said it looked like a cat. But when Maumi turned around, she saw 2 'coons'. She grabbed my leash as I started to dart off the deck. You know, if Miss Kitty were alive she would have gotten those 'coons.' But Maumi stopped me before I could do just that. Dad said, "It's about time we went inside." So we did. But I stayed alert. And do you know a few minutes later those brasen 'coons' were on MY lounge chair eating out of our bird feeder. Standing as tall as my short self could, I kept looking out the door, to show those 'coons' they better get off MY lounge or I was coming to get them. When Maumi kneeled beside me, one turned and looked us straight in our faces.

When Menes' Dad pulled up in the drive, those moocher 'coons' left, at least temporarily. Maumi told Mene's Dad about them and I told Menes about them. Maumi said Menes needed to stay in, and his Dad agreed. But Menes had another thought. He told me he wanted to get those 'coons.' He was the man of the furmaly and would protect us. But Menes' dad kept him inside. So Menes all night remained vigilant in his apartment windows and I remained downstairs, pacing back and forth looking out my windows. Several times those 'coons' came back and I heard Menes 'howl' loudly and throw himself against the window to scare them away.

*Big Yawn* I am going back to bed so I can get some sleep. What an eventful night, staying awake and trying to save the family from'coons' on the loose.

Thank you Anzumaru...My Friend Is Safe

I am so happy I that I must tell the world. Another joyous moment has come from the devastation of Japan. My Maumi's Japanese furrend, she has called her Japanese 'daughter' is safe along with her child. Maumi put her picture on my page in her honor.

I want to thank my Japanese friend Anzumaru from the bottom of my heart and soul. Even through her time of hardships after the devastation of the earthquake and tsunami, and the radiation from the nuclear plants, Anzumaru's mom helped relentlessly with my search for Nami. Once I was able to find an address, Anzumaru's Mom drove one hour to speak with the family, only to find no one at home. She was able to find a phone number and call Nami's family. Nami has temporarily moved to Australia to protect her child and escape the radiation from the nuclear plants. Her family is safe in their home. I thank God for this miracle.

I thank you Anzumaru

To all of my furrends:

I found several more sites to where we as furs can donate directly to help in the relief of our Japanese fur friends.

If you have not donated already, and you are able, please check out these sites below and open your hearts to our Japanese furs. Many of us have been homeless until we found our furever homes. Yet very few of us have had our homes ripped out from under us because of a terrible earthquake, tsunami and now a nuclear disaster. Most of us have not seen our humans and fellow sisfurs and brofurs die in front of our eyes then find ourselves alone.

Our Japanese furrends have done so. These furs are now cold and starving, with no understanding on where to go to get warm or to find food or get relief from the pain of their wounds. Japan's furs have experienced all of these.

Some fortunate ones have been found by these organizations listed below. But to continue their work, they need funds.

Please keep our Japanese furrends in our hearts and purrayers. Go to these sites and see their plights and see where our donations are used. Then give pause, give thanks that we are safe in our furever homes, happy, healthy and well fed. Then, if you are able, make a small donation for those who aren't.

The direct links are below:

http://www.jears.org
Scroll down to the orange box on the left side of the page to where it says : “US residents…”you may donate here or scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Japan Animal Disaster Relief Donate to Help Japan.” On this page you will find links to World vets and Global Animal.

Or use these Direct links to:

At this time there are only 2 world vets in Japan. This organization also sends veterinary supplies and medicines.

I Heard From my Japanese Friends

I was so happy and relieved that I received a note from my Japanese furrends anzumaru, sumomomaru, TOY, and umeko. They thanked the world for their support and wanted us to know they are safe and live about 300km from the earthquake devastated area and about 100km from Tokyo. They also mentioned that a friend of theirs lost their home in the tsunami but their friend and her 3 cats are alive. They didn't have electricity every day and in areas for only 3 hours.

After such devastation the Japanese people have experienced and what they must face in the near future, their strength, fortitude and sense of unity are to be honored and admired. An example to us all.

anzumaru's number is 1129644.
sumomomaru's number is 1129646.

Crossed Paws and Sent Purrs to our Japanese Furrends.

Most of the day we have been p-mailing and sending POP to our Japanese friends, and I fear we have lost a few by looking at the location of their residence. I hope more of my Catster furrends do the same...just a POP, or words of encouragement... words of HOPE. I know electricity is down now, and many may have lost their computers, their homes, family and their furs. They are living in the streets during winter temperatures, without food, fresh water and medicine. But when our Japanese friends are able to find Catster again, our words of encouragement.... of love and HOPE will be there for them during their hardest time...the rebuilding of their new lives and the mourning of their past. The written words you will have written from your hearts will not be wasted: our time is never wasted when we do something to aid in our fellow furs/humans in distress.

My hope is those Catster Cats who live in TOKYO will be able to check on those who live elsewhere and get back to us here at Catster: that is one blessing of the internet. Maumi is concentrating mostly on Catster because of her school schedule and hopes maybe someone will pick up on Dogster and do the same.

In our family we believe: 'I am Thy Brother's keeper'. Our Japanese friends are our brothers and sisters. We are all CATSTER CATS....and our humans...the brotherhood of man. They have been devastated by an earthquake, followed close behind by a tsunami, explosions at a nuclear plant, followed now by a possible eruption of a volcano.

Love is the most powerful source in the world. Let's band together as Catster Cats to show LOVE for the side of our family who is in dire need of this. Let's show our love, support, HOPE and encouragement to our Japanese family.
Thank you...my CATSTER CATS....

Fly Free Miss Kitty

January 7th 2011 8:51 am

Around 5:15 yesterday afternoon, Maumi knelt beside us with our sister Miss Kitty wrapped in her blanket, cuddled in her arms. Pretty Girl looked at her, nodded her head as if she had a deep understanding of what Miss Kitty said. Baby walked up to her and softly Meowed, like she usually does, only softer, and I gave my big sister a head bonk, lasting longer than most. We stood on the steps and watched Maumi and Dad close the door behind them, knowing that we would never see Miss Kitty here on earth again. Upon their return Maumi, was crying and so was Dad. As Maumi passed the Christmas tree in the hallway, she hung Miss Kitty's collar on a lit limb, right above where Miss Kitty always laid. We all allowed Maumi to hold us for awhile, PRetty Girl and Baby cringe when Maumi holds them, but tonight we understood.

My sister is now free...her spirit is now free....Fly free Miss Kitty.
