Being brushed; mommy coming home after work; mommy waking up so she can start her day with a brushing session.
She has a difficult time with other cats. She used to give an ear-splitting scream if she so much as saw another feline but she is doing better now.
Laser pointer but doesn't play much.
Favorite Nap Spot:
Her basket by the window; on the folding chairs; behind mommy's sleeping chair; in the fleece bed; in the crook of mommy's knees when it is cool enough.
Any dry food but I feed her Science Diet.
She is an outstanding trainer of humans; she knows how to get us into bed at the right time by yelling at me if I keep her up.
I had shared cats before but had not had one of my very own. When I was ready to adopt I knew the agency I wanted to use and exactly what I wanted in my new cat. I can't speak to0 highly of Homeless and Orphaned Pet Endeavor (HOPE) a n0-kill pet rescue and foster organization in Houston, Texas. HOPE uses the typical adoption process but when I looked at their forms they just did not let me enter all the information I wanted to. I didn't care what my new cat would look like, or about its gender but I was very fussy about personality. I wanted a calm kitty who wouldn't wreck my house, so I'd know what I was coming home to. Scratching furniture is actually ok, but I don't like things being knocked over. Then I wanted my kitty to be independent enough not to pine for me during the day but friendly enough that she would hang out with me when I came home and be comfortable with visiting friends. Ideally the cat would not be too terrified of the vacuum cleaner as the place I lived in at the time didn't have a spare room where she could hide away from the monster. When Nylu's foster mom called me not only did she have a cat that met these requirements but she said that she was white and fluffy! So I got a good looker too! Nylu found it extremely distressing to even see another cat so I couldn't pick her up from the usual adoption site. And it would have been difficult for me to collect her from her foster mom's house, so her foster mom arranged to bring Nylu to my apartment. She arrived on the afternoon of Easter Sunday, 2001. Not only was it Easter, a special time for me, but when I went over her adoption papers I found that the vet had assigned her the same day of birth as my own, making this a very special match indeed.
Nylu weighed 11.7 pounds for most of her adult life but was up to 13 pounds at her last vet visit. I have her on a diet and she is not protesting at all. She's easy to feed as she eats only dry food. I've tried moist food occasionally thinking that if she would eat it I could disguise pills if she ever needs to take any, but she has left it in her dish, giving me withering looks. And apart from one time when she ate some spilled cheese she doesn't care for people food either, not even tuna and chicken. When she has needed medication I've asked for liquids and she has been a little angel in taking her doses from an eye dropper or syringe. She really is a very easy going cat.

I was never a very active cat though I did sometimes jump at the wall after the laser pointer. And if mummy brought flowers home there was nowhere she could put them that I wouldn't jump up to get close enough for sniffies. Yep I liked flowers but not 'nip. When my vet pointed out that I might be getting middle age spread Mummy actually cut my portions as she knew I wouldn't take to exercise to burn up calories. Would you believe it? But I didn't give her a hard time. After all she was doing it with my interests at heart, right? Now I'm here on Catster with all my treats I'll have to watch my figure again!
Thanks for all my pressies Leo, Grace, Casey & Frankie. I have to apologize because mummy has not completely figured out how to track and leave messages on Catster so she may miss thanking some of you by name.
Nylu and Anne, happy to be here with all our new friends.

Mummy was going on a long vacation to visit her folks and couldn't take me. She was thinking I would have to board at the vet but then mummy's friend who had two cats, Miss Hissy and Wee Boy, said she didn't like that for me and why didn't I come to stay with her? We didn't know if it would work out so mummy brought me a week before she was leaving so if need be I could go to the vet after all. Mummy packed up all my stuff and we went over. When I arrived I hid downstairs under a chair with my face in a corner. I was not happy but mummy and her friend did not realize I was TERRIFIED until they tried to introduce me to the other kitties and I just screamed! Bad move mummy. After that I learned when I traveled again mummy knew she needed to let me settle in on my own. Mummy had heard my scream before but her friend said it was one of the scariest things she had heard in her life. They left me alone in my corner after that. Later I came out to explore one my own. Mummy's friend called or emailed everyday to report that I steadily got better. It helped that Miss Hissy ignored me. It seemed that I was not important enough for her to bother with me. She was Wee Boy's mom and super alpha cat. Plus she had checked out my food and decided it wasn't as nice as hers! After I took some time to explore I found the bathtub and would hang out there. Mummy's friend decided I could have that whole bathroom and bedroom to myself. I was allowed everywhere during the day but then I got uppity and would leave my room at night to growl at Wee Boy who slept with mummy's friend, so rude as I was the guest after all. Mummy's friend had to shut me into the bedroom that she made my own by with a nightlight and soft music. She said that was the only way she could get some sleep. I have to say that the room was perfect for me as it had big windows looking over trees a nicer view than I had at home where my window faced just another ground floor apartment. Did I say that Wee Boy was fascinated by me? Mummy's friend says he seemed to want badly to be my beau but I would have none of it. He would try to get close but sooner or later I would raise my paw. I never hit him but he backed off. I just growled. Mummy's friend christened me "La Princessa".
Mummy Anne here: Mummy's friend is a super cat person hero. She never had pets growing up but adopted Miss Hissy after she had been abandoned, found homes for a litter and with a second litter found homes for all but the two kittens she kept herself. Sadly I never really knew Sissy Cat who died very suddenly when quite young but it was a privilege to make friends with Wee Boy and Miss Hissy.
