Arrival Story:
Leia was one of two black kittens at a shelter who shared one cage and were obviously bonded, sleeping all wrapped up with each other. I did not have the heart to part them so I adopted both. Although they were both born within a weeks of each other and were black, they had different parents. The two kittens were inseparable at first but soon their different personalities and sizes differentiated them dramatically.

Leia is truly a little princess. She is dainty, petite, and perfectly figured ...and a flirt but she knows her power. She is kind of like a "Gidget" of the cat world .She is vivacious, brave, and outgoing and very chatty. From the first day, she asserted her ego and presence by vocalizing not Mew but "Ai, Ai, Ai (I ..I ...I..!). Her vo-cat-bulary expanded rapidly . along with her vocal range . She is so intent on talking that she will be vocalizing and go into a yawn in the middle of her comments...and keep on going. She has a great little purr and sometimes will purr and "talk" at the same time which is highly endearing. Its like trilling. Leia is very adventurous and will try anything. She leaps to the top of the sliding shower door , walks along the frame and steps out onto a thin towel bar on the nearby wall and from there jumps onto the top of an open cabinet door and onto the top of a cabinet and then checks out the ceiling fan! EEgads. She also likes to make her way up trees and onto a house roof, onto high shelves in closets and burrows into dresser drawers full of clothes. She made friends with our senior cat by following him around, being relentlessly and aggressively flirty and friendly, taking advantage of his cat napping by carefully placing herself closer and closer to him until she could curl up against him (He opened one eye, almost sighed wearily and let her stay, and eventually let her groom him. She just wore him down! Now they go out together, play chase in the house etc.). Leia has remained petite, finally tipping the scale at 10 lbs but she looks gracile . She has a heartshaped face, an extralong graceful tail and when she walks on you with her tiny feet , you can imagine her tripping across you in tiny stiletto high heels. A high energy kitty, Leia is independent but when she wants company, she just starts making noise. She has special cries. One is " look what I dragged in!" (mole, shrew, bug, worm, or a mighty vicious rubberband). When she comes in from outside, she has to immediately tell you all about her day/adventure/feelings by speaking quite insistently and excitedly .. Leia is also very curious about water. She loves to play "go ahead, throw some water and lets see where it goes!" and likes to knock over paper cups of water where ever she finds them. Another favorite is carrying around in her mouth any rubberbands that she finds , depositing them in a water dish. This habit of seizing rubber band or string objects and putting them into water caused a sensation when we found what looked like a waterdish full of blood! Turns out it was a red ribbon she had "drowned" in the water dish and the red dye colored the water. VERY strange. She is the brightest cat of the three we have right now and we find her fascinating!

Last night, I saw a visitor to my backyard.... I watched...and CHARGED!!! and chased it up a tree. It was bigger than me. My family was all agog and stunned by my bravery . They told me it was a raccoon!

My step brother, Jedi was watching from inside. He is too scared of strangers. Its funny because he is twice my petite size.
