Arrival Story: Hoppy was born February 1,1999 in the cattery of a friend. He was about 4 weeks old before she realized that something was wrong with his legs. He was born with deformed front legs. The right one doesn't support any weight. He walks on his left elbow. She had him to 4 different Vets looking for a remedy. They all said put him to sleep. Well, she wasn't about to euthanize a perfectly healthy, happy kitten just because he wasn't perfect, so she decided to neuter him and keep him as a pet. I thought he was so cute. I told her if he was my kitty, I would name him Hopalong Catsidy. She started calling him Hoppy, but didn't register him. For all intents and purposes, Hoppy is a 2 1/2 legged cat. He may be deformed, but he sure isn't handicapped. When Hoppy was about a year old, his owner's adult daughter moved back home with her small child. The little boy teased Hoppy to the point that Hoppy would poop on the kid's bed every chance he got. My friend called and asked if I would like to have him. Hoppy joined our family in April of 2000.

Bio: Update- 1/27/08 Earlier this week, Hoppy had symptoms of a URI. When I started to treat him, I discovered that he had stomatitis, gingivitis, some bad teeth, and an ulcer on his tongue. He hadn't given me a clue that anything like that was going on. Took him for blood work. His white count was low and so were the platelets. I had him on antibiotics for several days. He appeared to be feeling better. The next day when I woke up, he was bleeding from the mouth. Went for another CBC. White count was coming up, but platelets went down further and he was now anemic. His immune system was destroying his red blood cells and platelets. The bleeding was a spontaneous hemorrhage because he couldn't clot. He was given steroids but didn't respond. His HCT went from 21 to 15. We were helpless. We had to let him go.
