Arrival Story:
My college roommate and I wanted a cat for our apartment in NY, and so when I was home in Michigan the summer before our junior year, I went to the animal shelter to look for a kitten. The shelter had a litter of kittens that were due to be euthanized in about an hour because they hadn't been adopted. When I looked at them through the bars, they all fought to be petted, except for one...one kitten refused to fight the crowd and instead scaled the bars of the cage and demanded to be petted up at the top! I was looking for a male kitten, and the shelter worker told me he was the only male of the bunch. So I took him home! That evening, the first thing the kitten did was jump up onto the stove while I was cooking dinner, immediately burning off all the whiskers on one side of his face. (They grew back.) Since he'd cheated death twice in the first day I knew him, I decided to call him Kamikaze. He's been with me 8 years now and is the ultimate "boss" over the other dogs and cat in the house.
