Arrival Story:
A month after Rambo went to Rainbow Bridge, I was at the mall. The SPCA has a mobile adoption every Saturday with cats and dogs who are up for adoption. I usually stop and admire and sigh and walk on. Not today. I made eye contact with this glorious girl ... orange eyes and a silver grey coat. I found myself saying, "May I hold her?" She went into my arms, looked into my eyes, chin butted me, put a paw on my neck, snuggled under my chin and went to sleep. The volunteers' mouths fell open and they said "she's yours". And she is - it was like she was saying "what took you so long, mom?"

She was 6 months old when she came to us. She has huge golden eyes, and we believe her to be a Chartreux- although at first we thought "Russian Blue" because of her colouring. But the build is pure Chartreux. The clincher? She only has 3 legs (missing the left hind). They think she was caught in a snare and is lucky to be alive. She was lame and cold and hungry when she was brought in to the SPCA, and now she is the most loving cat I ever met. I am such a sucker for a special needs cat.... Anyway, have been reading about Chartreux, and she fits. Thick double coat (feels like mink!!) and they don't meow, they give tiny chirps- some are mute. I had already noticed that she chirps instead of meowing... Her eyes and head profile match the description, and they even say that "ghost barring" or "tail rings" can be seen under age 2. In shows they get disqualified for a "white locket" (she has one) or a limp (oooops!). They apparently get almost as big as Maine Coons - so maybe Rambo had a paw in this. There is a story behind her name(s). Since I originally thought she was a Russian Blue, I chose Nika (means "gift from heaven"). Now I am convinced that she is a Chartreux, and all Chartreux born in 2004 should have their names starting with "V", so I chose Valentina (from Latin, meaning "healthy and strong"). And to complete her three-name process (as per TS Elliot's poem), I have chosen Cassidy (yes, as in "Hop-Along" )
