Prince Modred and his siblings were born to a teenage Mommy cat rescued during our first year in Ireland. Being born in a real castle (that we were renting for a few months) he was of course, a prince and he was also the first born and largest kitten of the litter. His little Mommy did not have enough milk, so he and his siblings were bottle fed with Bunty's help.
Prince Mordred, rules the roost as the King of the Kilmurry Barn Cats. While his face may be going gray and he has lost his tail do to an unfortunate encounter with a doggie, he still knows how to whip the young wiper snappers into shape!
Newsflash! Prince Mordred has now officially retired from his position of Prince of Barn Cats and is now enjoying a luxury suite complete with heater, soft foodies and his own comfy towels. He still delights on shoulder jumping (though the human needs to lean down first) and being totally deaf he now roars his meows either very loudly or silently with head thrown back like the Prince of Cats that he is. His friend Thor, has taken over his former position of Head Barn Cat. Iggy sends his well wishes to all his friends and devoted "staff," we hope to have him for years to come.
Prince Mordred was actually born on Beltane (MayDay) I had clicked in wrong and is now corrected. He left us a few months ago after spending a wonderful year in the bathroom with his buddy and subject Tomtem the blind kitty. He enjoyed life until the very end, even if when he lost most of the use of his back legs he could still fly from his warm box to the food bowl. Mordred pass away in his sleep, and is greatly morned by the many people whose shoulders he leaped onto and laps he enjoyed.
We still have the lovely banners a friend made of him as an Egyptian Cat (which he looked like) one as Ramses in his Chariot and the other as might Egyptian warrior smiting a mousie with his war club! They will stay on our wall for a very long time...
Prince Mordred got the nickname The Iguana when he adopted our Irish house-mate as his favorite human. Since the human in question does not usually like cats, he must be an Iguana...
