Looking back on 2012

As the year draws to a close, I think about how it went. It started out with Patches feeling better and us thinking we had weathered the bad and moved her to a healthy kitty again. As it turned out, that was wrong. She was a very sick kitty and in April, I lost the friend that I had been with since I was 3 weeks old. It was very, very hard for me and my family. I thought for a while she would come back. Then one night, I was walking through the house at night and mom said she could have sworn I said "where are you?" She wanted another kitty and knew then I needed another companion too. But dad was slower to get over Patches (she was REALLY his kitty) Finally he said OK.

Enter Spice...at the end of May, about 6 weeks after losing Patches, mom and dad got in contact with the local rescue group. They had been considering a kitty that had lost it's back feet, but said it had no limitations. When mom talked to the foster mom, she said steps were sometimes an issue, especially if they weren't carpeted. Our food and litterboxes are in the basement, and we go down uncarpeted steps. All parties talked and decided it wasn't in that kitty's best interest to be taken from the good foster home she had...so mom asked about Spice. She came to live with us. It was really only a few weeks of us getting adjusted to each other and as the year has progressed, we have become very close. We like to curl up together to sleep and we run and play A LOT. Mom says there is a new spring in my step and is happy to see my playing so much.

Then the fall brought two things...the Cat and Dog Plaza Olympics and LILLIAN.....MY LOVE. She was so smart and just missed winning and game and I was mesmerized! We sent pmails and now we are a couple..and I'm crazy over her!!!!!!! This is her profile: http://www.catster.com/cats/291986 I mean...isn't she just BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Yea, she has me wrapped around her paws!

The second thing that the fall brought was that I got Pancreatitis. Fortunately mom noticed quickly my change in eating habits and got me in to the doctor.I spent two days there getting fluids and a couple days at home recovering but was lucky enough to make a full recovery from that. I know for some kitties it is a recurring problem but mom hopes that mine was just a one time occurrence. Since then, I have been well and active again, just like before.

So looking back, though we suffered a huge loss with Patches, we will never forget her. She is always with us and I know she helped pick Spice and is teaching her. It has been a good year overall since that point and as my love Lillian says...Hopes for a very HEALTHY and Happy 2013!!!

A lot can sure happen in a year hugh buddy? I am really glad you have Spice and Lillian in your life now. Purrs that we all have a healthy new year!

Awww.. I am so sorry that you & your family lost sweet Patches. But I am so happy that Spice has a wonderful forever home now.

Thanks Buddy....we tried all we could do but Patches was strong and able to hide how sick she was until it was probably too late to do anything. I know Patches sent Spice though and has taught Spice a lot and I have so much fun with her. It's good to have her here.

I am so sorry you lost Patches this year. I know how hard it is to lose beloved furmily members. I'm glad you and Spice are so close. Much happiness for you and Lillian. :)

Dear Phantom, my good buddy, we know all 'bout losin' a kitty 'n feelin' da emptiness it brings. We know Patches halped findin' Spice fur U 'n Ur furmilies! Wif losin' Timmy dis year 'n hopefully 'ventually Ziggy will get a new lil brofur. Mom still cries memmerin' our bridge kitties. But gives us opportunities to bring new life 'n new kittens into our homes. Smokey Joe also halped find me too! Funny as wif Mallee also bein' dropped in our lap, well mommy's lap! Dat wus NOT planned! MOL!
We love Spice E 'n Ur furmilies so mush 'n wishin' all da best in da new year 2013 'n Ur health stays good too our grand pal!!

We too are so sorry for the loss of Patches but thankful you now have Spice in your life and Lillian to love too! What a wonderful thing to celebrate! Here's to a wonderful New Year filled with health and happiness for you and your family!

Thank you Milo, Marmelade and Milo for all the good wishes and I hope that 2013 is good for all of you and your families as well. We have all lost and know the pain but we are all lucky to have the homes we do and the love we get from our furmilies and I'm grateful for that every day!
