Help For A Scaredy Cat

Hi kitties! My mom wants to ask for help so I'm gonna let her borrow my diary for a bit....

This is Pixie's mom here. I've noticed that Pixie has become even more afraid of people than she used to be. She is strictly an inside cat and nothing has occurred to cause this behavior. Lately she has begun to growl at people she sees from the window. The first time it happened it took me a minute to realize it was her and not the dogs. I thought that was just a fluke because she was growling at the mentally challenged man that lives in our neighborhood. He sometimes acts erratically so I thought perhaps she just was frightened by something he did.

Today I opened the window for her and she started growling again. This time she saw our neighbors getting into their car. Now its not like they live right next door. She saw them across 2 yards...I couldn't even make out their faces.

Has anyone else experienced this? She's been acting normally otherwise. She is eating, playing and is still affectionate to me. She shows no inkling of illness, so I really think this is a fear, not anything physically wrong. I want to help her get over this fear, at least to some degree, but I don't know what to do! Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Ok, its Pixie again. I don't know why my mom thinks this is a big deal, but she does. I'm just warning people to stay back!! MOL!!

See ya later kitties!!

Maybe she is being territorial?? I'm pretty intense about stuff going on outside, but I don't growl... I'm curious to hear what other cats think.

Kibbles growls when he really doesn't want to do something. Like go to the vets. Or when he gets his shots. He also sounds like a dog. You would think he was going to bite you.
Have a great day.

I've heard of kitties growling at other cats who they see outside but never at humans (unless it has something to do with the vet!) Sounds like Pixie feels threatened by the people outside or is being territorial. Has she ever interacted with any of these people or had any run ins with strangers who came into your home from outside?

Kaci

Luke and Sammy growl at kitties that come in our yard, but I don't think any of us have growled at people before. Could there be animals in your yard causing the behavior? I'm quite a scaredy cat myself, but I usually just run and hide!

Hi kitties! Thanks for your comments & support!

Kaci - When anyone visits my home I hide - always have. Even if its a someone who's been there several times. A repairman came to fix the oil heater, but I hid as usual. Nothing different about that visit.

Natasha - There were no animals outside in view. Mom checked pretty thoroughly.

After I growled in the window I jumped out and ran away from it. So mom thinks its more fear than being territorial.

Mom has this crazy idea - next time it happens she's going to try to coax me back to the window with some chicken. And try to ease my fears thru food. I dunno if that will work, but I do LOVE chicken ;)

HEY PIX, HAVE THOSE HUMANS COME AND TAPPED ON THE WINDOW WHILE YOU WERE SITTING IN YOUR WINDOW PERCH, WHEN YOUR MOM WASNT HOME AND MAYBE SHE DOESNT REALIZE IT? THAT WOULD SCARE ME AND I WOULDNT FORGET IT EITHER!

XOXO, PETE
