Looking for a way to celebrate our feline friends this month? Here are some fun April cat activities.
NOTE: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many events have been cancelled. But here are some virtual events you can check out.
All month: Pet First Aid Awareness Month; Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month
Monday, April 6: National Siamese Cat Day
“We are Siamese, if you please…” Deep blue, almond-shaped eyes; large, pointed ears; delicate but muscular build. The Siamese is one of the most recognized cat breeds in the world, so it’s no wonder they get their own day. Celebrate this vocal, intelligent, curious and affectionate cat with poems and posts.
Friday, April 10: Paint Nite – Wise Cat
Unleash your inner artist in the comfort of your own home. One ticket will give you and your family access to this virtual event. You can draw or paint, and get creative with whatever supplies you have at home. You just need to download Zoom.com (which is free) and you’ll get a one-time link to access the event, which starts at 7 p.m. (PST). Get more info here.
Saturday, April 18: SPCA Tampa Bay Pet Walk
For nearly three decades, Pet Walk has been one of SPCA Tampa Bay’s biggest fundraising events. But because of the need to limit mass gatherings, this year’s walk will be virtual. This online party aims to raise critical funds for pets and goes from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (PST) Get more information at p2p.onecause.com/petwalk.
Saturday, April 18: SPCA Florida Walk for Animals
The 28thannual fundraiser goes virtual this year. Even though there’s no physical event, the Walk for Animals will work the same way it always has – you’ll still get a Walk for Animals T-shirt, earn great prizes depending on how much you raise and get entered in the Passport prize drawing by visiting vendors and sponsors’ websites. The event goes from 9 a.m. to 12 noon (PST). For more information, visit spcaflorida.org/walkforanimals2020.
