Ragdoll Breeders That Ship

You may find the perfect Ragdoll kitten for your family, but it is too far away for you to justify. Don’t be put off! There are ethical and easy ways to transport pets by bus or air.

Most registered and reputable breeders will be more than happy to ship kittens to the best homes. Many will advertise their ability to ship and any additional shipping charges. If they don’t, it pays to enquire as they may be happy to do so.

How Much Does a Ragdoll Kitten Cost?

A Ragdoll kitten will usually cost between $1,000–$2,500 (AU$). The lower end of this price will reflect a cost for a pet quality purebred, and the higher end is for show quality cats. Some kittens from champion bloodlines may go for even higher!

Ragdolls cost this much due to their desirable traits of physicality and personality aligning with their purebred status. You may get a Ragdoll cross with favorable characteristics for a few hundred dollars, but their temperament may vary. Purebred cats also will come with papers, vet checks, and complete health screenings as required to be registered.

Things to Ask a Ragdoll Breeder

An experienced and reputable breeder will advertise almost all the answers to important questions for future owners. Their website should display their cats, past litters, home, and plenty of information about their husbandry.

Before committing to a Ragdoll kitten, be sure the following questions are answered (whether with given information on their websites or by asking questions).

The breeder:
  • Do they answer all your questions?
  • Are they interested in you and your home?
  • Do they have other pets? (e.g., cats or dogs)
  • How long have they been breeding Ragdolls?
  • Is their home clean and hygienic?

The parents:
  • Can you meet both the mother and father?
  • Are they healthy?
  • Are they friendly?
  • How many litters has she had before?

The kitten:
  • Do they appear healthy?
  • Do they come with microchipping, vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, and vet screening?
  • Where are they kept in the home?
  • Are they socialized? (e.g., other pets and children)
  • Have they been handled often?

The 3 Things to Know Before Buying a Ragdoll Kitten

1. They Shed

Some information circling the internet states that this long-haired cat does not shed and is hypoallergenic. This is not entirely true! Ragdolls do lack an undercoat, meaning they shed less and are less prone to matted fur. But they do shed their fur during seasonal changes. This may be more noticeable in warmer climates as they attempt to keep themselves cool.

2. They May Be Demanding

Many cat people like cats for their low-maintenance attitudes. Ragdolls are unique in their temperament as they tend to be extra friendly, cuddly, and attention-seeking. They are often compared to dogs as they love attention and socializing. If you have a busy lifestyle, consider getting another pet or cat to keep a Ragdoll company.

3. Watch Out for Scams

Ragdolls are a popular purebred breed for many reasons. Because of this, many try to profit dishonestly from them with scams. Do extensive research into your breeder and read testimonials and referrals to ensure you are not misled.

Conclusion

Bringing a new pet into the home should not be taken lightly, but you can rest easy knowing that every breeder on this list is trusted and respected in breeding healthy and well-adjusted cats.

Many breeders will offer ongoing support even after purchase to ensure you have all the resources you need to care for your Ragdoll for years to come.
