Odor Control

Every cat owner would agree that one of the biggest downfalls of cat ownership is dealing with litter box odor. That said, odor control is the most valuable standout feature of this cat litter disposal system. Once you scoop the waste into the Litter Genie, you simply pull the handle to drop the waste into the bottom. This stores the waste into the bottom pail and seals off odor with an impressive air-tight seal. You also won’t smell much odor when you open the top lid.

Combating tough cat litter smells is an ongoing battle for pet parents but luckily, there are products out there designed to help! Two products that significantly reduce odors are the Hepper Litter Additive and the Hepper Enzyme Spray.

    Ease of Use

The Litter Genie is easy to use and assemble and has some handy features. The system entails a pail, a litter scoop and holder, and a standard refill cartridge. Before using it, you’ll need to install the refill cartridge. Pull the tap on the cartridge to open. Next, pull the bag down from the cartridge (about a foot long) and pull it through the center. Then, tie the bag off at the bottom (much like you would with a doggie poop bag). Lastly, open the lid, insert the cartridge, and you’re ready to use it.

Simply scoop out the waste from the litter box, open the top cover, and drop the waste inside. Next, pull the handle to drop the waste to the bottom inside the bag, and you’re done.

When you need to empty the Little Genie and replace the bag, open the unit in the middle by pushing the tap. Then, use the built-in cutter to cut the bag, tie it off, and carry it to your garbage can.

    Affordability

If you’re looking for an odor solution for your cat’s stinky litter box but have a limited budget, you cannot beat the price, especially considering the ease of use and features. The system is convenient, effective, and affordable, all of which are appealing and make the Litter Genie a serious contender for odor control.

    Standard Refill Cartridges

When you purchase a Litter Genie Cat Litter Disposal System, it comes with one refill cartridge that holds 18 feet of multi-layer plastic film, which can last up to 2 months for one cat; if you have two cats, the cartridge typically lasts 14 days, but how long the cartridge lasts depends on how many cats you have and their bathroom habits. The refill cartridges are not too expensive either, which is another excellent value with this system.

Refill cartridges work for all models, so if you decide to upgrade to a bigger Litter Genie system, you do not need to purchase different cartridges. This is especially valuable if you have a bunch of refill cartridges already, as they will not go to waste (no pun intended).

Unfortunately, you may receive a defective cartridge with the end of the bag (the end you need to grab while extracting from the cartridge) being buried in the center, making the cartridge run out in half the time, which can be frustrating. However, the manufacturer is aware of this and should issue a new cartridge for free if you encounter this problem.

    Scooper

Despite the convenience of a litter scooper included (and with a convenient holder on the side), it is made of plastic and is rather flimsy, so if you prefer a metal scooper, this may take some adjusting. The litter scooper depth could also be a little deeper to collect bigger poos; however, the length of the scooper fits the opening at the top perfectly. If for some reason you are unhappy with the scooper that comes with it, you can always replace it with a scoop of your choice.

    Recall History

At the time of this writing, we did not find any recalls of the Litter Genie.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    Are the Bags Scented?

The bags the Litter Genie uses are unscented; however, they work by way of built-in odor-barrier technology that does a superb job of trapping odors inside the bag and the system itself. The bags have five layers of durable film that keep the odors in, so there’s no need for the bags to be scented.

How Good Is the Warranty That Comes With This Model?

Unfortunately, we were unable to find specific warranty information. However, the manufacturer has access to customer service from their website should you run into any issues. Most stores offer some type of warranty when you purchase a product, and you may end up with only a standard warranty from the store where you buy your Little Genie.

What Are the Other Models Little Genie Offers?

The standard model, which is the one reviewed in this post, is not the only model Litter Genie offers. Other models include the Litter Genie Plus, the Litter Genie XL, and the Litter Genie Easy Roll Pail. The difference between these models is the size and how long the refill cartridges last. If you have multiple cats, consider purchasing a model with a larger capacity. Regardless of which model you choose, though, they are all compact and lightweight.

Do You Have to Use the Refill Cartridges?

Yes, it would be best to use the refill cartridges for the system to work well. The bags are made explicitly for the product to lock in odors, which is the main focus of the entire system. We suppose you could use regular trash bags; however, these types of bags will not trap odor and will defeat the whole purpose of the Little Genie.

How Do the Litter Scoop and Holder Attach to the System?

When you unpack your Litter Genie, you will find everything inside the pail, including the refill cartridge, litter scooper, holder, and instructions. To attach the holder, open the unit by pushing the button in the middle. You will see two notches or holes on both sides below the rim. Line up the latches on the holder with the holes on the unit. You can choose which side you want to hang it on.

    What the Users Say

The reviews from users tend to be on the positive side. Users convey how much they love the ease of use, assembly, cleaning, and odor control.

Some users mention that the litter scooper is flimsy and would prefer a sturdier metal scooper. Others state that the lid may not latch at times, and some have trouble emptying the unit, claiming the plastic bag is flimsy and makes it hard to handle when emptying. However, the consensus is that the system is effective and serves its purpose well.

    Conclusion

The Litter Genie cat Litter Disposal System combines ease of use and odor control for a revolutionary way to tackle cat waste odor in the home. It works with any type of litter and allows you to keep the litter box fresh and clean. It’s compact, lightweight, and doesn’t take much room to allow you to place it next to the litter box. The system is also affordable. While we couldn’t find warranty information, the manufacturer’s site allows you to contact customer service should an issue arise. All in all, this system serves its purpose well for little cost.
