Videos We Love: Cats Who Are Having an Identity Crisis

It’s common knowledge that the otherworldly Lil BUB is actually an alien visitor from a distant planet, but sometimes other, seemingly regular cats also exhibit patterns of behavior that are decidedly less than feline in nature. For example, both of my cats play fetch — well, they try to, at least. After chasing the twist-tie and depositing it somewhere in the general vicinity of my feet once or twice, they typically give up and take a nap.

My cats aren’t the only ones. Here are five cats with a bad case of mistaken identity that has them imitating everything from dogs to actors in old-timey TV westerns.

1. Cat acting like a dog

Tifa the kitten thinks she’s a dog. Her confusion runs so deep, in fact, that she exhibits a number of dog-like behaviors, such as playing fetch, panting, and wagging her tail when she’s happy. Tifa’s human says that the grown-up cat is now too lazy for fetch, which also negates the panting — but she still isn’t sure whether her cat is 100 percent feline.

2. Cats acting like humans

Eating off a fork, lounging on the couch, running on a treadmill, offering a friendly handshake — these cats’ human traits are uncanny. If only cats could learn Microsoft Excel, they would fit right in at the corporate cube farm.

3. Cat acting like a baby

Oftentimes, being a baby involves sitting in a portable reclining chair with brightly colored plush toys dangling above your head. No wonder this cat loves it.

4. Cat playing dead

This handsome striped fella is one hell of an actor. He could have starred in a TV western back in the day — a no-nonsense, shoot-em-up show like Gunsmoke, one of my mom’s favorites. After robbing the town’s treat reserves, kitty would be shot down by Sheriff Matt Dillon on his way out of town.

5. Humans acting like cats

As this great BuzzFeed video illustrates, there are a lot of things cats do that would be creepy if humans did them. But hey, if nudging your coworker’s mug off the side of her desk is your deepest burning desire, don’t let that stop you.
