Supertrooper Cat Minxy Finds Home After Ten Years at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Minxy probably owns the world’s record for the length of time a shelter cat has waited for a furrever home AND the age at which she was placed in a furrever home. At the age of 21, after living at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for TEN years, Minxy was adopted.

She lost her home ten years ago when her guardian developed health problems. She was relocated to Best Friends, and spent a decade watching family after family come through only to adopt somebody else.

(Need a break to grab a tissue?)

Enter Lisa of Orangevale, California. Cruising the Best Friends website, she saw Minxy and felt a tug at her heartstrings. Poor Minxy! Lisa felt sad for her, but wasn’t ready to adopt.

Returning to bestfriends.org a year later, Lisa saw Minxy again, and that was that. Fearing Minxy would never leave Best Friends, Lisa gave her a furrever home.

Lisa was concerned that, having lived in a shelter environment for ten years, Minxy might have trouble adapting to a home and four other cats. Not a problem! Acclimation was almost immediate, and despite her age and diminutive stature (she weighs in at six pounds), Minxy rules the roost. As Best Friends put it, “After 10 years at Best Friends, Minxy earned a Ph.D. in living with other cats.”

Lisa is aware that her time with Minxy will likely be brief, so she lavishes as much attention and affection on Minxy as one can squeeze into each day. That even includes accupuncture!

Here’s Minxy’s bio from her Catster profile:

Minxy is a super sweet cat and loves to snuggle and purr. She is a total lap hog and making up for her years in the shelter where she had to compete for lap time. She also loves sleeping on a bed again and especially the goose down duvet. Minxy has absolutely no teeth left – the last few were removed last year. Despite this she can eat dry kibble with no problems and actually prefers this to wet food. She’s relearning her table manners as the 1st evening I ate dinner Minxy ran up and grabbed the chicken off my plate. She’s much better behaved at dinnertime now but still cadges like crazy.

Ever the sweetheart, Minxy has recently been devoting her energies to finding a furrever home for Tabby, a sweet six-month-old kitten who was abandoned in their neighborhood near Sacramento, CA when his family moved away. Minxy is hopeful that Tabby won’t have to wait ten years to find his furrever home. Visit his Catster profile for info on adopting him.
