What Is AminAvast?

AminAvast is a nutritional supplement comprised of amino acids and a particular peptide. Its active ingredient is AB070597, which contains glycine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-glutamine, L-carnosine, L-histidine, and L-arginine. The different components of AB070597 all offer individual potential benefits to kidney disease patients ranging from protection against kidney ischemia to carbohydrate metabolism regulation.

The AminAvast website states that the product is used to maintain kidney health, helps to maintain naturally low levels of oxidative stress, and supports normal kidney cell structure. AminAvast has a long shelf-life of 3 years and does not require refrigeration.

During a clinical study in 2015, blood serum creatinine was measured in cats diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) before and while receiving AminAvast.2 Overall, cats had an improvement in their creatinine levels and IRIS (International Renal Interest Society) staging.3

How Is AminAvast Given?

AminAvast is in capsule form. It is recommended that the contents of the capsule be mixed into the cat’s food. For cats who are finicky about smells and taste, the contents of the capsule could be mixed with tuna water and offered or mixed into a tasty snack. Alternatively, the contents of the capsule could be mixed with a small amount of water and administered orally.

AminAvast for Cats is administered based on weight. Cats under 10 pounds should receive the contents of 1 capsule twice daily. Cats 11 to 20 pounds should receive the contents of two capsules twice daily. This product can be given long term.

Please note that there is a canine variety available as well, but this should be only administered to dogs.

What Happens if You Miss a Dose?

If a dose of AminAvast is missed, simply skip the missed dose. Do not double dose. If you’re still unsure, make sure to reach out to your vet directly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Should I Initiate the Use of AminAvast in My Cat With Chronic Kidney Disease?

Before initiating any treatment for your cat, you should speak with your veterinarian. Your vet will diagnose and stage your cat’s chronic kidney disease to determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on their specific condition. While AminAvast is marketed as a kidney-support supplement, it is not a replacement for standard chronic kidney disease management strategies, such as a prescription renal diet, hydration support, and other medications.

Can This Product Be Used With Prescription Kidney-Friendly Diets?

According to their website, AminAvast can be used concurrently with all diets.

How Quickly Does AminAvast Begin to Work?

The AminAvast website suggests that some cats may show benefits within just a few weeks. However, scientific evidence supporting a specific timeframe is limited, and results can vary between individuals. Your veterinarian will determine the appropriate timeline for monitoring your cat’s progress, often through periodic bloodwork and clinical assessments. It’s important to manage expectations and continue following your vet’s recommendations for CKD treatment.

Before initiating this supplement or adjusting your pet’s current regimen, be sure to contact your veterinarian.
