According to NASA, French scientists launched the first cat into space on October 18, 1963. The kitty, named Felix, was successfully retrieved after a parachute descent, but a second cat who went up a few days later wasn’t so lucky.
These days, we don’t have to send felines into orbit to get the full cats-in-space experience. There’s a Tumblr dedicated to the phenomenon (omg cats in space!!!), and one of my favorite cat commercials from last year was a Russian Lottery ad featuring an expressive kitty who achieves its lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut.
Another way to get your intergalactic kitty fix? The Lazer Cat Hoodie by Japan L.A. The three-quarter-sleeve poncho-style hoodie is cute and cozy, and its hot-pink laser beam sunglasses are truly out of this world!
