Arrival Story:
I followed an ad in the Washington Post to the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland to find Elsa. Actually, I was looking for a male cat. But Elsa picked me. She was seven weeks old, and the breeder felt she was too young, and not a "candidate." So we left her in the room with all the male kittens. Elsa just wouldn't leave me alone. She drank out of my water glass, climbed up my leg, climbed up my chest, and nestled in under my chin. The breeder announced: "That's it. She's the one. She's chosen you!"

Life as a Flirt...

A wisened jaded skeptic

I want to thank my Furty Friends who purred for me this past week. Your love has been curative for me and overwhelming for meowme. (BTW, she has a tendency to tear up at any time. I blame it on her lack of education. Poor thing didn't go to finishing school...)

Purrs can be miraculous. Meowme still reels from how certain she was last week that I had seen the end. But I rebounded. This morning I amazed her by jumping up the pedastal sink for a personalized sip of water.

I know purrs have helped other sick, hurt, lost, scared Catsters before. I have earnestly purred for Furts who need help. And I called out in the depth of my despair for help, for the purr of my beloved Catster friends. But I must have been skeptical. I couldn't believe these purrs would actually help me.

The effect of Furtie love can be miraculous. Extraordinary! Please know that your positive healing vibrations helped keep me living. I don't face the wall. I face life!

Purr for Me

p.s.up front: I wrote this poem for my Olde Furts, but I think I'll add it to my page as well. It is easier to say things in rhyme.

At last! Meowmie noticed me
Facing the wall corner distractedly.
I'm on the bed, feeling weak.
I sense nearby angels speak
Aflutter--their comfort palpable and warm,
They help to quell the general alarm...

Now at last I must ask:
Please spend a purr for me.
I'm an aged flirt, so overly weak-knee'd,
I can no longer jump to the bed
And "wobble" is my only form of tread (!)

Meowm decided not to pack me
All betoweled in the wretched bage
That somehow always opens
Upon a cold steel table where the
Impersonal doc makes me shake and yowl
Like a most unbecoming banshee.
I say: Preserve my fainting dignity!

But I won't fade quietly
I want my Furtie Furts
Beside me. We'll not pannick.
Just a calm purr, and wait.
We know who is at the Pearly Gates!

My bed is comfortable.
The water cool.
I dream of angel friends in farwaway
Soft-cloud pools...

Besides, it is 3:00 a.m.
A moment of time given to rhyme
When meowmie can indulge
Her fears and maudlin bent.

When you read this it will be light
Perhaps this darkest part of night
Will prove her fears just a momentary fright.
But I remain to ask:
Please purr to move me toward the light.

I love you all dear furtes.

Your friend,
Elsa

Whispers Tell Me

Whispers Tell Me

Maximus dashed up the Eternal Steps
Without a single plaint
Overjoyed to leave his frailty,
Overcome to meet dear friends
He bowed most exquisitely at the Elysian Gate.

“Come! Come! Dear One” Furty Angels called
Adorned with boas
Laced with silver, All aquiver
Most delighted
Oh, such beauty captured!

Maximus flexed recaptured zest
And paused to laugh and say:
“Let’s re-commence all impishness
This sublime tempo I shall raise!”

Yeowza!
Pizza splat
Howl and yowl
Chase that rat
Remain all boa’d cowled

“Oh, by the way, do they serve oysters here?”

And I?
My Darling is just twentyfour earthly hours gone
And such a whisper I received.
I smile to recall that while
Men plod space through time
We Furts invert it all!
