Yesterday was my 6th birthday!

I decided to help myself to a special birthday treat, by ripping open a bag of the dog's food and stealing a few pieces!
My meowmy wasn't very happy but they sure were fun to play with.

I made it up to her later by putting some of the pieces in her purse as a gift! i'm so thoughtful.

thank you for all the birthday wishes!

Wow! My meowmy and I logged onto catster and we got a pleasant surprise to see my diary on the Diary Picks list! Thank you HQ!~

I went for my one week checkup yesterday. The V-E-T lady that I like was there, and I purred for her so she could give me hugs and kisses :)

She and the surgeon had a discussion about me, and they are putting off the PU surgery for the time being because I've been able to pee on my own just fine. I do get another two weeks of that Pee-noxy-benzymine stuff, which I don't like :( and I have to go back in two weeks to get another checkup. As long as I get lots of hugs and don't have to stay, I don't mind the vet!

I hope everybody has a safe and happy Easter!

After a night at the V-E-T, I'm home! The people at the vet were really nice, and gave me lots of hugs and kisses, which I like. The V-E-T lady gave me a shot of something that made me feel reaallly good and not in pain. They took blood from me but that was OK because the shot made me feel good. I'm relaxing on my favorite bed with my favorite toy - it's so nice to be home!

Love,
Maus

Maus' person:

Maus was able to urinate on his own overnight and was discharged this morning. Bloodwork and urine that was run show an increase in inflammatory cells, and he has a bladder infection (cystitis) that they put him on antibiotics for. He is also on phenoxybenzamine to help him continue to urinate. He's going back for a recheck visit on Friday to discuss further treatment for him and whether or not a PU surgery is needed. Thank you all for your purring and well-wishes!

He was acting his usual self, except for the urinating problem. The vet felt him and said that his bladder was soft and he wasn't blocked - yet - and they are keeping him for observation to make sure he can urinate. Poor Maus can't catch a break. After visiting the E-Vet for constipation, it seems his urinating woes are back. He was crying in the litterbox, so I went to look, and though he did urinate, there was some noticable blood and he's ouchy. Looks like he's going to visit the vet again tommorrow. Thankfully he is able to urinate, but he is definitely not having an easy time with it.

Last night was very eventful! I wasn't feeling good at all and couldn't use the box so my meowmy scooped me up and brought me to the V-E-T. I feel fine now , except that my fur-meowmy is hissing at me a lot. :( My human meowmy's going to take over the keyboard so she can explain 'cos I'm not too good at describing all these medical things. Plus it's a little embarrassing :(:

Maus was acting a little out of sorts for the past few days, but he was eating and using the box and acting normal so I figured I'd keep an eye on him. Around midnight Friday/Sunday AM he was in the box, crying. Fearing that he had another urinary blockage I went to check on him.

He wasn't in the urinary position but was struggling to poop, and was hunched over and crying before falling over and projectile vomiting. He had an intestinal blockage as a kitten, and the symptoms were very much the same so I rushed him to the emergency hospital. I was convinced I was going to lose him, the way that he was laying on his side and breathing hard.

The e-vet was very busy with a lot of other pets there, so we waited a few hours before we were seen. Now is the part that would be embarrassing. Maus was very constipated and needed an enema to clear him out. He perked up a lot afterward and they sent him home, and he's been his normal self since. He's been put on lactulose and fiber, which may be a permanent thing. He's sitting on my lap headbutting my chin so he's definitely feeling much better, but it was really scary for awhile.

It's been almost two weeks since my human sprung me from the V-E-T and I am finally back to my normal self. That yucky pill that my meowmy keeps giving me.. I think it's called Amy Trip Tiline?.. made me really sleepy at first. I didn't want to do much but lay around, but now I'm feeling a lot better and less sleepy.

Woke up this morning to a ton of white covering everything outside! It was really windy last night and there were lots of scary thumping noises outside, so I burrowed under the covers with meowmy all night to protect her. I wasn't scared!

Maus did very well at the emergency hospital. The vet called this morning to say that his bloodwork came back great and they didn't have trouble passing the urinary catheter. I picked him up this afternoon in order to bring him to his usual vet, and he was definitely happy to get out of there. Poor guy had it at both ends - an e-collar around his neck and a catheter in the rear!

His usual DVM had said last time that if he re-blocked, he'd need the PU surgery, and Maus is in surgery as we speak. Knock on wood that everything goes smoothly and he'll be able to come home next week.

Maus' person here. Maus is currently at the emergency hospital with a urinary blockage. He was acting normally all day until about 20 minutes before I took him.

He vomited, which is unusual for him, and retreated under the bed. I called him over and he jumped on the desk and proceeded to assume the urinating position, but nothing came out. He repeated it several times after jumping down , crying and squatting, and I knew right away he was having another episode. Threw him in the carrier and brought him to the 24/7 emergency hospital. I'm worried about my Mausi , and even though he's gone through this twice before, there's a very real risk he can deteriorate.

As anycat knows, there's nothing worse than being on the other side of a closed door. A few weeks ago the den downstairs that I always like to visit had a big door blocking my way in! I did not like that at all, let me tell you.

First I tried sitting outside and staring at the door, to see if it would open if I thought really hard. It didn't. :(
So every day I'd sit in front of the door, hoping it'd open for me. I'm not the kind of cat to give up. When that didn't work I decided to stick my paws under the door and meow reeaallly loudly. A few days ago my persistance paid off and my meowmy opened it! I charged in and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw...

...another cat sitting in one of the older human's laps!! And another one walked around the corner and looked at me! I did what any self respecting cat would do - I turned tail and ran out the door!

I still sit at the door and watch it every day though. Maybe if I think reaallly hard, those two new cats won't be there the next time it opens..

Five things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving!:

- I am thankful that my human meowmy rescued my fur-mom and me! We would not be safe and warm in our house if she hadn't rescued us. We probably would have been at the Bridge long ago.

- I am thankful that I haven't had any litterbox problems in awhile - knock on wood! And if I do have litterbox problems, I know my meowmy will take care of me.

- I am thankful that the yucky vitamin supplement I take is only once a day!

- I am thankful that enough money was raised for Muppet's surgery! Yeahh!

- I am thankful to be a part of Catster and be able to know all the wonderful, caring kitties that work their hardest to help others! Cats like Hazel Lucy, Oliver, Allie, Samoa, and the rest of the Muppetheads!

Dusty has tagged me, so here are five facts about myself!:

1)I love Brooke, the oldest cat in the family, and always go to try and touch noses with her and rub my head against hers. Only, she doesn;t like that at all and will hiss and whack me in the head. I keep trying though! One of these days..

2) As affectionate as I am, I HATE getting my nails clipped and will squirm and growl when my human mom tries! She always manages to get them all in the end. :(

3) I love greeting new people that come to visit and will immediately try and climb on their laps or ask for a headbutt!

4) I looove my human meowmy's robe and will pull it off of the hook where it normally hangs just to curl up with it! So soft.. purrrr...

5) Even though I am an indoor cat, I am a great hunter if I do say so myself! I bring my human meowmy any bug that dares to come into the house.. usually alive. (She doesnt like that for some reason...) I also bring her my stuffed toy mouse, which I will carry around the house in my mouth.

I will now tag the following five kitties to post five facts about themselves in their diaries!

Wow! Was my meowmy in for a surprise when she turned on the computer and logged onto Catster! She told me I was cat of the day and I couldn't believe it! I ran downstairs to tell Brooke the news but all she did was cuff me upside the head and hiss. :(
But hey, I'm cat of the day!

Thank you to the family of Bixit, Monkey, Smugglesby; the family of O'Malley, Squeaky (and lots of kitties, mol); Bubby ; Milani; Copy; and the family of Scratch, Tiger, and Cecelia for the rosettes and stars and stuff!

Meow everyone, Maus here! My human mom took me to the dreaded vet again! Luckily it was only for a checkup , but I still hate going! It took her fifteen minutes before she could catch me - I may not look it but I'm fast, mol!
The vet checked me over and said that everything was okay, and that I wasn't blocked up or anything! They did take a urine sample from my insides with this needle. It didn't really hurt very much, just a pinprick! Hopefully my urine doesn't have any of those crystals in it so I don't have to go back to the vet for another year. I'd rather stay at home and lounge on the bed, and maybe beat up the dog if I get bored.

That reminds me. i need to go smack the dog around a bit. meow ya later! >^..^<

Purrrrs,
Maus!

Meow! Maus here with another diary entry. Well, my human meowmy took me for that ultrasound thing that the vet told her I need. I never like going to the vet, cause they always poke me with needles and stuff, and I wasn't happy when I was put in that carrier! The workers at the vet are always nice to me though and give me lots of pets and hugs. I guess I don't like to admit it but I think I really do like the vet sometimes!

The results came back last week and they confirmed that I have that "flooted" or whatsit they mentioned. They also say my intestines are thickened and that I may have inflammatory bowel disease too! In addition to my special food my meowmy now adds some supplements to it so my stool isn't so hard, and I've been having a much easier time in the litter box!

Til next time~

Maus here, coming to you from my favorite spot on my furless meowmy's bed! Boy did I miss this.. I didn't have anything soft to lay on at the vet's... anyway, they removed my IV catheter yesterday and told me if I was doing okay that I could go home. When my meowmy came to see me today I was so excited! I jumped on her lap and headbonked her and gave her facenuzzles and nosebites.. I knew she wouldn't leave me there! I like the people at the vet because they gave me hugs, but it's not the same as being home with my human mom and my furmom and the other cats! They hissed at me when I came home though.. guess I smell funny. :(

The vets say I have something called "flooted", which means that I get crystal things in my urine that can cause me to not be able to pee in the litterbox and makes it hurt when I try. I don't like that feeling but at least I know what it is! I have to go back to the vet in a couple weeks to get an "ultrasound". The nice people at the vet said that it will take a movie of my insides to make sure that there are no stones causing my problems. I've never eaten a stone but they say that they sometimes can form inside of cats. Weird!

I need to go take my medicine now and eat my special food. Meow ya later!

According to the receptionist at the vet hospital, Maus is doing well, albeit not really eating too well. He doesn't like eating much in the hospital usually and I don't really blame him! They took the urinary catheter out and he is on IV fluids and urinating on his own. Hopefully he'll be home soon and this won't ever happen again!

Maus has fallen under the weather again. This morning at 6 am I awoke to the sound of one of my cats in distress. Tracking the source of the noise I saw Maus sitting in the litterbox. I stood in the hallway and waited a bit, and when he didn't move from the box after five minutes, went to check on him. He cried and hopped out of the box and immediately started to lick himself while growling. I knew from the first time that he did this that he was suffering from a urinary blockage so I rushed him to the veterinarian.

Upon physical examination she confirmed that he has a blockage, as well as a heart murmur, and they whisked him to the back to take an X-Ray before inserting a catheter. I only arrived home a few minutes ago and he's currently in their care. Of course with any surgical procedure requiring anesthesia there is always a risk. I'm hoping that Maus will be able to come through this again.

Today was not a very fun day.. I was minding my own business, sleeping on the waterbed , and my human mom came in and picked up Brooke and put her in a cat carrier. When I saw that, I knew exactly what was going on, because whenever my furless mom takes that out it means I have to stay at a scary place with metal cages and strange smells! I tried to hide under the bed but she caught me before I could get too far and put me in the carrier. Even though she said I was just going for a "checkup" I knew better! The whole ride, Brooke was meowing and trying to get out of the box, but I stayed quiet 'cause I know what happens once the car stops! You know what, though? My human mom was right! We didn't stay there for very long at all, and all they did was stick a needle to draw out some urine, and that didn't even really hurt. I know they're doing this to try and make sure I stay healthy but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Til next time..
