Arrival Story:
My mom and I were at PetsMart on a day when they were having their adoptions. We saw a beautiful, friendly calico there who was just aching to get out of her crate and curl up in someone's lap. My mom seemed so drawn to her, but we weren't able to adopt her. The next Monday, I searched online for homeless pets in our area to show my mom. I knew that she needed a companion for her to have in her new apartment (my parents are recently divorced), and I knew that if she were going to get a cat, it was going to come from a rescue. I looked through hundreds of cats, unable to make a decision on which one's bio to send to her via email for her approval. I sent several, but none seemed to click for her. Until I sent her Kira's bio. As soon as she laid eyes on Kira, she knew that this kitty was going to be her new friend. I contacted the rescue and talked to Kira's foster mom to arrange a meeting and to complete the necessary paperwork. That Sunday, we went to pick her up and bring her home. She's still adjusting, but she finally came out from behind the couch to explore while we were there!

Kira and her sister, Astra, were found at a recreational center near the NASA Space Center by her foster parents. Her wonderful fosters got her and Astra cleaned up, fed and later got them spayed and up-to-date on their shots. I can't thank them enough for letting us adopt this wonderful kitty. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, I will convince my mom to adopt Kira's sister if she doesn't find a home in the mean time. I know they miss each other, but certain circumstances wouldn't allow us to take them both at once. In all, Kira is just starting to come around and show her personality. She's become very talkative and active. Her favorite thing to do is explore my mom's apartment for new activities with which to entertain herself. Today (11/22/04) she came to us to be petted! We can't wait for her to come fully out of her shell!
