Arrival Story:
Willie Boy came to us as a stray kitten. It was a cold day in October and we were at a program at our local museum. Willie Boy darted into the museum when someone entered. He ran across the room amoung about 50 pair of feet and jumped into my lap. He stayed there for two hours sucking on my finger. During the meeting we found out he was a stray and that people from the museum were feeding him and giving him lots of milk. (NOT GOOD WITH THE MILK) When we left hubby asked me what I was going to do with him and I said that I was going to just put him back outside as we already had 6 cats. Hubby did not like the idea as the museum was located on a major street in our town and he was afraid that the kitty would be killed by traffic... I agreed to bring him home and keep him till the following Tuesday as the local shelter was closed for the weekend and Mondays. Hubby did not like that idea as he knew and expressed to me about mortality at the shelter. Thus the name of Willie came to be. Will he stay or will he go! By the time Tuesday came along both hubby and I had fallen in love with this little guy...so we changed his name to Willie Boy after the subject of an indian that use to be in our area years ago, was discussed at the museum that night. Not too long after Willie Boy was given his shots and nutured we discovered that he could not see all that well. He found his way around the house very well but when he played and ran down our hall to the bedrooms he would not see our chows laying at the end of the hall and would crash into them. The chows did not seem to mind the intrusion and just moved out of his way. Willie Boy is now 17 years old and is a special needs kitty. He runs about 35 pounds, one heavy boy. He has to have special food for a kitty with digestive problems. Of course his blindness have progressed to the point that he does not see much at all. Also he has bronichial asthma. It got to the point that Willie Boy could not find the litter box and I just could not have that...so rather than put him down...hubby and I went to some garage sales and found a child's play pen. It is now Willie Boy's home. He is very, very contented to stay in the pen...and uses his litter box all the time. Because of Willie Boy's size and age he is not able to do much in the way of grooming so it is up to me. Twice a week he is placed on a nice soft towel on the kitchen counter next to the sink. I draw nice warm water in a pail with baking soda in it. NO SOAP! I wash him down with his own washcloth and then I towel him dry with his own towel. His nose runs all the time and gets sore so twice a day I clean the nose and put a coating of vaseline on it. All the time I fuss over him he just lays there and lets me do it and does not complain. I also have taken a queen size sheet and cut it up into 8 equal pieces, hemmed them and have made these pieces of sheets Willie's sheets for his bed in the pen. In colder weather he has 8 flannel sheets to lay on instead. I also keep a heating pad in the pen in the colder weather so he does not get cold. Now and then I will take him out on our inclosed patio and put him in his favorite chair that is out there. He will lay there for a couple of hours sleeping and enjoying being outside in an area he always enjoyed as a young cat. Willie Boy sleeps most of the time now but also know when I am in the room and will raise his head for me to scratch. Whenever I touch him or move him to clean his pen he gets a few gentle pats on his popo. I really think he looks for those pats.

Bio:
With the way Willie Boy is health wise maybe some of you wonder why I haven't put him down. Truth is I love this boy dearly and besides that he eats well, drinks well, and does potty good. He is just an old cat that had a difficult begining. I truly believe that his mom was a stray and did not get good nurishment when she was carrying her litter. I feel this is why Willie could not see good right from the begining. He knows when he is being cared for and is loved and responds to it...so at this time I do not feel it is necessary to put him down...

It has been a little over 6 weeks since we have had to send Willie Boy to the Rainbow Bridge. I know deep in my heart it was the best thing to do for him but I still miss him so. Willie was such a loving cat and he brought a lot of joy to both my husband as well as myself. I go out to where he is buried and sit and talk to him...I hope he knows that I miss his loving company very much.

It has taken me this long to be able to sit down and write the following about Willie:

On the 6th of September, 2008 Willie Boy was sent to the Rainbow Bridge.

A very loving, caring, gentle vet sent him on his way. The vet told us that Willie Boy was way, way over due for the Rainbow Bridge...

It hurt to let him go because I had taken care of this little guy...or big boy for a very long time. He was a special needs boy and I never minded taking care of his needs...

I know he is at peace now and running with other kitties at the Rainbow Bridge...he can see now and breath easily...I also know he is without pain...

Knowing all this still does not make it any easier for me as I loved that boy so much...and I miss him terribly. Thank goodness for my other kitties as they help me by giving me lots of love and comfort.

REST IN PEACE MY DEAR WILLIE BOY! REMEMBER MOMMY STILL LOVES YOU AND MISSES YOU!
