Arrival Story:
Maynard was a "woods neighborhood" kitty for a couple of months. Every one in our rural area was feeding him. Since I seem to be the "Catwoman" of the area, I kept receiving phone calls about him. He spent the coldest night of the year outside and was ready to come in forever. We picked him up at a neighbors and took him to the vet to be checked for FELV/FIV. He was negative for both. Maynard was caged for awhile because of 4 other animals in the house. He is very content in the cage. He has a warm bed and lots of food. He ate continually as he has been surviving so long on his own, that he didn't want to leave any food in his bowl. He will stay in the cage till everyone is acquainted and understands there is a new baby in the house. He will be allowed to venture out and visit an hour or so a day, in Mommy and Daddy's arms. There will be no traumatic experiences for any of the furbabies this way. Maynard was already neutered when we found him. He is very sweet and loves human contact. An older cat is always wonderful to rescue. They have been around and understand that their new life is to be appreciated. Yes, kittens are cute and fun, but try to adopt an older cat if you get the chance. Just remember that easing them into the new situation is the key. Don't just bring them in and drop them in the middle of the house with all the new sights, sounds, and animals and kids. Take your time and you will be repaid over your lifetime with such love only a kitty can give.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am loving my new home. My two brothers seem to have accepted me for who I am. I love my two dogs too!
I am so happy!

I have been accepted!

My Mommy took down my kitty cage yesterday. I don't need it anymore. It was a safe haven for me, even with the door open. Mommy has added a picture that shows me under the cage, Pugsley in the cage, and Peggy Sue visiting the both of us. Mommy and Daddy discovered that I know what the sound of a can opener sounds like. I went running into the kitchen when I heard it.
I am now eating with the other cats, and using the litter facilities that they use. Mommy said I am very smart. I have already learned that if I talk to Mommy and walk in front of her to the food bowls that she will feed me.
I love Gloria (my dog Mom) and Peggy Sue. They wouldn't hurt me for the world. They are very big dogs and I like them.
I still hide in safe places a lot of the time, but no body bothers me too much. Harley Dude wants to be friends, but he also tells me he is the #1 kitty in the house and that I better get used to it. Pugsley is the biggest cat in the house, so I kinda watch out for him. He is nice so far.
When Mommy can't find me, she has a secret weapon she uses. She calls Gloria and tells her to "find her baby". She heads straight for me no matter where I am hiding and tells my Mommy by whining that she found me. I usually get treats and petted then, so it isn't so bad.
This being in the house is certainly better than being outside in the woods.
I will continue to post my diary as I get more involved in the household affairs. I wish all kitties had a home like mine.

WOW! Life is really GOOD!

I was living in the woods for a long time. People were feeding me but it is not the same as having a furever home. I spent the coldest night of the year in Florida outside and I wonder how I made it through the 35 degree temp. The next day a lady let me in her porch and fed me. She called a neighbor a few acres away, and that lady and man came to see me. They said they would take me to the doctor and get me checked out, I am healthy so they said that I could come home and live with them.
I am living in a cage right now so that the other 4 furbabies can see that I want to live here too. We are starting to get along with each other. I really like the biggest dog that lives here. She is named Gloria and she puts her nose on me and talks to me. She has very big teeth but won't hurt me.
Pugsley seems to be ok with me being here. Harley Dude is not so sure about this whole situation. Peggy Sue says she knows that there will always be animals coming in her life. She told me that my new family saved her life 13 yrs ago.
I will continue to live in my cage for awhile, but I really like it. I feel very safe. I come out on the porch and lay in the sun and watch the outside critters, but I don't want to ever have to go outside again.
I love it here! I am going to be the best kitty in the world.
