Arrival Story:
I had never had a cat before, but when I was 11 and my second dog passed away, I made the decision that I was a cat person at heart. We found Minerva at the pound, in a cage across from a large dog. She was clearly terrified, but she nevertheless started talking as soon as we stood in front of the cage. She was so tiny and chatty that I was instantly smitten.

Minerva was with me for ten years. We'd thought that she was three when we adopted her, but the vet later said that she was between five and seven years old. Someone had treated her terribly -- her front paws were declawed, and her teeth were rotting. Five years before she died, a bad vaccination caused her to have massive liver failure, and the vet said that we should euthanize her. I think she knew that I wasn't ready to live without her, and she hung on. Due to the intervention of an amazing Egyptian naturopath we knew, she managed to recover somewhat, although after that she was always underweight. She died very suddenly five years ago, and for the longest time, I was sure that I could never have another cat in my life. I still love and miss her. She used to follow me around the house like a little shadow, and whenever I was upset, she would curl up with me and purr until I felt better. To this day, she is the best living creature I have ever known.
